Thunderstorm, baby born… dun dun

TANTRUM for 6 by Harrison Ritchie-Jones thrusts us into a parallel universe where 6 babies are born from a thunderstorm, each with a natural ability to dance together. Like young goslings learning to fly, they dive straight into the challenges of their choreographed destiny.

Featuring an ensemble of expert dancers, TANTRUM for 6 becomes a guttural primal scream—a mesmerizing storm of movement that captures raw emotions, chaos and grace.

A love story in a housing crisis

‘What does it matter which one he chooses? We have a horde of them! Any one of them will do!’ – Mrs Bennet

Award-winning theatre company Bloomshed (Animal Farm, Paradise Lost) brings us a bold new take on Jane Austen’s insatiable classic. Written with their signature wit from the depths of the housing crisis, this raucous production flips the table on the Bennett sisters’ quest for love and security through a mercenary marriage.

In the plush ballrooms of high society, Mrs Bennet sees too well the value of a strategic union. But her five daughters all have ambitions of their own. Jane and Elizabeth want to marry for love (whatever that means). Mary’s stuck in a goth phase, Lydia’s hot for the local militia, and Kitty is... well, we don't need to talk about Kitty. With the cost of living rising, and Mr Bennet played by a potted monstera, how will the Bennet family hold onto their precarious position on the property ladder?

Following sell-out seasons, critical acclaim and a slew of awards, Bloomshed returns to Darebin with a searing social satire dressed as a period drama, wrestling with the function of ‘love’ in the twenty-first century.

A night of blak q***r excellence
AUNTY is making her Northside debut.

And she’s bringing you BLAK EXCELLENCE.

Step into the ultimate celebration of self-expression, diversity, and unfiltered fabulousness as AUNTY takes over Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre for one glorious night.

She’ll be serving up a devastating showcase of Naarm’s best and baddest: cabaret and performance artists, DJs, pop-up performances, impromptu vogueing sessions, and uninhibited Black Q***r Beauty from the stage to the dancefloor.

Part show part party, it’s a jubilant homage to Black Women, Q***r Icons, Indigenous Royalty, and every breathtaking expression in between. And it’s all hosted by a gang of larger-than-life aunties who’ll be working their magic and making you feel right at home.

AUNTY is brought to you by BEAT ENTERTAINMENT and RECKŌNING SOUNDS, local legends who specialise in spectacular celebrations of Q***r, BIPOC & First Nations excellence.

And when Aunty says you’re going out – you’re going out.

Dress to impress.

A dance of assembled parts

Sarah Aiken makes dance that warps perspective. From ecstatic astrological experiences with Deep Soulful Sweats to the national tour of Make Your Life Count, her work illuminates the body's relationship to the world, and how we see ourselves within it.

Body Corp is a choreographic collage that blurs the boundaries of bodies - creating mythic figures, complex with our connection to nature and technology. Patch-worked, multi-form choreographies evoke the unreal, travel in time, transfigure self and reality. Dancers merge with machines to become hybrid creatures and monstrous assemblages: augmented, impossible, expansive and porous.

An assembled choreography infused with magic realism, this innovative dance work muddies the divide between the human and non-human asking what inhibits our ability to connect with, empathise with and learn from the non-human world.

A razor-sharp trans thriller

“Nervous? How could you not be?”

From the cutting-edge q***r theatremakers that brought Melbourne The Inheritance, In The Club and The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven comes a razor-sharp new collaboration with trans playwright Eva Rees. A taught psychological thriller with a twinge of body horror, Djuna toys with power, kink and gender politics between two strangers behind closed doors.

Djuna meets Marcus to play out a mutual fantasy. She might be lying about her experience, and he's clearly in denial about who he is and what he wants.

Djuna and Marcus have more in common than they might admit: a desire to explore themselves in ways they can't anywhere else. This night will be the beginning of a two-year affair that will leave neither of them unscathed.

Directed by Kitan Petkovski, with production design by Bethany J Fellows (In the Club) and sound and video by James Paul (Wake in Fright), Djuna offers a scintillating perspective on q***r exploration, from a ground-breaking local company.

Thunderstorm, baby born… dun dun

Breakout choreographer Harrison Ritchie-Jones (CUDDLE) is making waves with his eclectic and unconventional approach to dance. Clashing forms and styles with high technical skill, he’s using dance as a frame for absurdity, physical virtuosity, and surreal storytelling.

TANTRUM for 6 thrusts us into a parallel universe where 6 babies are born from a thunderstorm, each with a natural ability to dance together.

This dynamic dance work considers what it is to be human, twisting and reshaping 6 paths in a choreography of elegance, danger, ecstasy, sadness, and exhaustion.
