The prospect of relegation is not a great experience. So it was incredible to be shooting this match, so much was on the line and everyone in the crowd had their eyes not only on the match, but also on the results around the grounds. Thankfully, Bentleigh had results go their way and remain in the NPL Victoria for another season.

Sport is competitive and most times without a certain outcome. So. as the 2024 NPL Vic NPL season comes to an end it’s a great opportunity to celebrate the U23 Green Gully SC squad who took out the Championship at the end of Round 24.

What a massive achievement for this group of young men. A team where the average age is 18-19. They showed great composure to hold it together to take out the competition.

Life as a club photographer is full of so many mixed emotions. Week in, week out you rock up to games shooting in rain, sun and wind without any certainty as to what the outcome will be.

I’m privileged to shoot for two of the Melbourne based Maltese Teams and all I can say is the relationships you form over a number of years really builds the sense of connection you have with not only the club, but the players, parents, coaches, fans and volunteers.

In Gully’s cases it’s been a season of mixed fortunes for the seniors, however one of the highlights for the club has been the promotion of some of the U23 squad into the senior playing group with Shifa Ahmed’s ascendency in the later half of the season being something to enjoy. I wish him all the best at Western United.

As the season has progressed we have seen the senior squad peppered with a number of the U23’s and it’s been exciting to see each and every one of them take the opportunity to be seen. As they say the future is bright.

As the boys got closer to taking out the championship I started forming the idea of doing some form of shoot to honour the occasion. I’m an absolute believer that you should honour the losses but celebrate the wins. Life throws so much at us these days that I think there is no shame in celebrating the hard work and dedication that has landed this team at this point. In the years I have shot Gully I have never seen the 20’s get close to this achievement.

The idea behind the shoot was to give the boys a chance to have a bit of fun and acknowledge the achievement. As I’ve heard many people say over the years these opportunities don’t happen all the time so enjoy the moment.

The season quickly coming to a closure saw Caroline Springs George Cross FC head up the freeway to Lara for a shoot out against North Geelong Warriors.

The light was beautiful to shoot in. It was great to score a come from behind equaliser to share the points.

50 years is a great achievement in anyones books but in sport it's a lifetime. FC Bulleen Lions celebrated their 50th Anniversary last Saturday night with a Gala dinner at the Veneto Club Bulleen featuring some old and new faces.
