Something you’ll hear me say often is “I love this palette!” And it’s true! I’m a chameleon and don’t favour one thing over the other. Some days it can be more of a singular tone I’m vibing, others it may be a rainbow explosion, other days it’s dark and moody.
In other words it’s hard to choose a favourite.
I find some colours are underrated such as the carribean blue or pastel yellow. Using primary colours I feel you can’t go wrong if want something colourful and classic.

CHOOSING A COLOUR PALETTE (for personal events)

There is no right or wrong when it comes to colour palettes. Its a matter of taste. If your second cousin doesn’t like your selection, she just has different taste to you (most likely lesser). My job would be super dull if we all had the same taste.

There is a couple of ways you can approach colour selection. Maybe start with your fav colour & build from there. You could take your fav colour & amplify it with tonal shades. Likewise, you could take this fav colour & consider pairing it with colours on the other end of the colour wheel (typically very complimentary).

When clients are really stuck, & it’s a group/dual decision, i suggest finding inspo in something you are both drawn to, for example some art work, an interior or landscape you have seen. Use that picture to choose shades from. & wallah!

Some other little tips:

*your selection doesn’t need to contain every colour from your palette. These other colours may be expressed in other elements like table dressing & flowers.

*try & keep the palette total to odds like 3, 5 or 7 etc. It’s a design rule of thumb i learnt from my old Landscape arch boss (Hi Soren! ). If you have even numbers, it can look a little unbalanced, & the lack of symmetry is very noticeable.

* is this a day or night event? Matt colours appear more muted at night & you may choose to hire lighting to highlight them. Metallic colours are great at reflecting lights & creating a party vibe.

*how do you want the people to feel when they walk in? excited? calm? warm? Colour can help with setting the tone.

*consider the space. Is it a blank canvas? or do you need the palette to work with some existing colours that you can’t change?

Outdoor events can be big, bold and a whole lot of fun. They also come with a unique set of challenges when considering how to style outdoors. We’ve put together a little list of considerations when it comes to styling Bangin Hangins outside, so that you’re ready for your next open air affair!

FLAT GROUND - A flat surface will go a long way to ensure your setup stays upright! If a ladder is required, it also reduces risk to our team. A flat paved area is ideal. If on lawn (or soft garden areas), this may require support reinforcement.

WIND LOADING - For things like backdrops, it’s wise to place these against a wall/solid structure to prevent wind loading. For elements like our arches and flags, most likely the product will need extra weight added. For soft ground areas, or larger ground based setups, it’s wise to consult with a supplier of Truss, so they can properly support and weight the structure according to engineering requirements. Its also wise to have a backup location for free standing items if the weather gets wild.

VISUALS - Consider the sight lines of your guests. For those that don’t know, our backdrops have a less fancy back (you might not want them to see that side). Different setups may assist with achieving different visuals goals. Eg Arches highlight entry points and are fun to walk through, Flags help with way finding, Backdrops provide a great photo opportunity or stage feature. etc.

SECURE YOUR SETUP : As a hire product, it’s in your interests to make sure the setup is secured. Will the setup be monitored by staff? If its forecast to be a rowdy affair or an event with many children present, you might decide to make the installation out of reach of prying hands (such as an aerial installation or an archway with just the top cross bar covered).

MATT COLOURS : As much as we love a metallic moment, our metallic pieces are not weatherproof. Keep this in mind when choosing a colour palette and go crazy with the matt colours!

It’s often been asked “How did you end up with a name like Bangin Hangins?” Long story short, it was a joke that stuck. Cassie from catered and lovingly managed our wedding day way back in 2015. Naturally we made all our own decor. Post wedding, Cassie suggested we do a pop up with the hangings to which i very enthusiastically said yes. She is as modest as they come, but genuinely, if it wasn’t for Cass, the pieces would still be under my couch gathering dust (you can see BH1.0 were no way near as good as today’s). The Salt n Peppa themed pop up was a hit! Afterwards we joked the biz would be called Bangin Hangins. I created a social media account, and from the following, i started to get my first legit followers (that were not my mum). Cass is the perfect example of women supporting women. Im forever grateful and in her debt.

With Bangin Hangin HQ, we went all out. Who says warehouse spaces have to be boring and bland! Given Bangin Hangins is generally associated with all things fun and colour, I felt our 9-5 home should reflect this. With the help of our colour wonderland was born! In case you didn't see our fine selves on , here is a little sneak peek into our HQ.

Recycling Hack alert!! Compliments of our newbie Chloe! She shared this gentlemen’s reel = @that40yearguy this morning and we were all very excited to try it. The amount of cable ties i see laying around in venues!!! I think this is particularly helpful for when you need to move the cable tie. I get that it may not also be possible in every situation, but every little bit helps hey?! Let’s give it a collective go?!

Forgive me if i repeat myself, but i have seen so many accidental No Nos, that i though it best to broad cast some of the basics to my dear readers. Plaster ceilings are basically impossible to hang from. They are flat and lacking in the finer things like attachment points. and No, we do not use 3M hooks. They either fall or peel the paint, and neither of those scenarios are acceptable. and don’t get me started on Duct tape! or any sticky apparatus for that manner. Have you ever tried to get gum out of your hair? No? Well I’m letting you know, you can’t. You have to chop the hair off and sport a fresh 80s cut. So away with you and your sticky contraptions.
