OK, this is a GOOD market alert!
Yes, we are in for some showers tonight and the “occasional shower” tomorrow morning. Pfft!
But we want do highlight FOUR important things to everyone before Saturday’s dawn and Market Day.
One: We have 120 sites allocated across 88 stall holders! This is truly wonderful and thanks to all those stall holders who are supporting the town and our projects - but it necessitates some reconfiguration of the market to accommodate everyone in as linear a fashion as possible.
THEREFORE
Two: Please bring a brolly for the showers and sensible shoes as some of the stalls are a little bit in the grass, in order to make room for everyone.
Three: Our Music programme is building. You may recall we have partnered with Mirboo Music as our Market Music Directors and this market they will be staffing a gazebo to start to publicise the group, what it is doing - and seeking more members to come on board - of the playing or financial support kind! Further down the track we plan to have them and other music acts as a regular feature of the Market. So, hop in and visit them and support this very worthwhile community group! Read the quick overview from group’s founder, Peter McCarthy, below.
Four: We are delighted to be able to host the Mirboo North Ambulance Auxiliary this month as they raise much needed funds for the local needs of the service. They will be raffling a trailer load of firewood (thanks Wednesday Warriors!) and will be up between the Rose arch and the ANZAC monument. And don't forget - Paula and the crew from Mirboo North Chaplaincy will be fundraising at the BBQ Centre as well!
See you 0830 Saturday!
Mirboo Music - a beginning…
Mirboo Music was originally started as an opportunity for shift workers and folk not in 9 to 5 work to have a jam session at a more convenient time than the usual evening sessions. It was also hoped it would encourage folk to get out of the house and engaged with like minded folk in a relaxed and friendly environment.
After our very first session Covid lock downs hit, and it became obvious that when restrictions were lifted, it would become necessary to help folk back out into their communities and music might just be the key.
I was wondering if a small community like ours with only about 2,500 residents would be able to sustain itself, but happily Gippsland has many towns within easy reach, so the target audience is far larger than I suspected.
We now have a collective of around 80 members in our FaceBook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/405633191306035), plus a number of others who don’t use Social and numbers are still growing even though we haven’t focused on getting ourselves known. Actual turn out for a session is generally around 8 to 10, and we can easily accommodate more.
So if you are someone who used to play an instrument or sing (or both) and are thinking about playing with others, or perhaps a backroom guitar hack who has never discovered the fun of playing in a group setting (like me), have a think about joining us.
You can see our playlist under the Files section of our FB group, which you can download and practice, if you don’t want to pop in "cold". But don’t be worried about how expert you can play. We all just muck in and it comes out with our own flavour of whatever we play. It’s great fun.
