To those who can hear me
I say do not despair
This torrid ineptitude of
political quagmires that
the world finds itself goose stepping towards
Is merely the death throw of power's
hungry hungry hippo mentality
consuming itself
We are waking to the power of our voice
a power of choice
to extend a hand a heart
helping just one soul
is a start The world
don't need saving
We do
We are not purse strings or puppets
We are the lub dub potential
of every super nova
We are our own shining suns
pulsing rays of cosmic light
across the infinite spaces that
seem to separate you and I
So go out and stomp your feet
in the early morning sun
Dance to welcome the day
Scrawl your unique aptitudes
on the canvas of reality

and don't worry about the stares
don't succumb to ne'er do wells
don't shade your light because others
are afraid of their own

The future swims across

The very first Speakeasy was a success! A big huge Thank You for those who showed up last week. We had some poems, a few stories, and even some music. It was awesome!

This is a brand new week and I myself am looking forward to some more awesomeness. We had a non-obligatory assignment to write or sing something about Polka Dots. What do they make you think of? What do they make you feel? What could they possibly represent? Can't wait to see what your creative minds come up with.

For those of you who are coming to the very first Speakeasy Open Mic and do not know the way.

Pull up the long driveway
to the house with lights on
seen as one ambles up the hill

There is a deck with prayer
flags waving their silent admonitions
on winds and breezes braced

We begin where and when we
begin that first step falling
like a blade of grass

the next step following
the next and so on

We do not aim at any perfection
accept that of sharing
our humanness faulted lines
that shift and at times shake
the surfaces of our world

These cracks shaping the character
of our visage are payed for
with delights and fears

We meet to share
We meet to feel less alone
in our loneliness

Pull up the long driveway
to the house with lights on
We await your company
