THURSDAY 6th FEBRUARY
The fine weather continued for the field of 142 players where A Grade was taken out by Scott Harris who went round in four-under-par to post
39 points off his handicap of plus 1. Graeme Sawyer took second place with 38 points while a four-way countback on 36 points gave third place to David Bennett ahead of Allan Maddison, Trevor Breust and George Christou. Karl Knoll prevailed in B Grade with 40 points off his handicap of 16, with Jack Knipler runner-up on 39 points. Colin O'Sullivan edged out Neil Towers on countback on 37 points to finish in third place. In C Grade Ray Hille posted the highest score of the day with 41 points off his handicap of 23 with Bert Elswyk from Emerald Lakes and David Harriss in the minor positions with 37 and 36 points respectively.
The nearest-the-pin winners were Paul Stokes on 3, Tony Rudd and Bill Hannam on 9, Bernie Krueger on 14 and Scott Harris on 17 for the 4th time this year. The ball competition went one-third of the way down the
32 points range.
SATURDAY 8th FEBRUARY
Of the field of 154 players, 106 elected to play in the Monthly Medal and the remaining 48 in a Stableford competition. In A Grade Phil Haynes had his best round ever in parring the course off his handicap of 8 to record the outstanding score of 64 nett, well ahead of the minor placegetters , Andrew Thompson and Graham Kerr, on 69 nett. A three-way countback on 68 nett decided B Grade in favour of Graham Small off a handicap of 16 ahead of Peter O'Kane and Ken Brown. Another three-way countback, this time on 72 nett, decided C Grade and Ray Hille had his second victory for the week, this time off a handicap of 22, while the minor positions went to Tony Hunt and Ian Lowe.
In the Stableford competition first place went to John Rimmer from Queenscliff with 39 points off his handicap of 11, while Jan Shevlin earned kitchen table bragging rights with 38 points ahead of husband Mike's 37 points.
The nearest-the-pin winners were Steve Wyatt on 3, Greg Holmes, Neil Towers, Julie Melville and Jan Shevlin on 9, Cameron Hutchison on 14 and Terry Turner on 17. The ball competition went one-third of the way down the nett 75 range for the Stroke event and to the middle of the 33 points range in the Stableford. RGI
