Narrandera Race Club would like to offer a big thank you to the TAB and Sky Racing teams.
Our promotion of the Narrandera Cup Day was very different this year, starting with the Calcutta at the Narrandera Ex-Servicemen's Club the evening before, which was awesome, and we couldn't have done it without them.
Graeme White from Sky was a guest at the Calcutta, and his work with Local auctioneer Ryan Burden and organiser Drew Kenna was very entertaining and engaging.
It was also lovely to have TAB representatives Simon Dooley and Lisa Byatt on hand, and they were great to work with, with their presence adding a lot to the weekend.
We look forward to working with all these stakeholders as we prepare for a bigger and better 2025 of racing.

Narrandera Race Club signs off on best-ever season

The 2024 Community Bank Winter Racing Carnival at Narrandera Race Club (NRC) has been a resounding success.
With the class of horses in attendance, along with the big-name trainers, quality of fields, and number of starters, this season has been our best ever from a racing perspective.
Crowds have been up, membership is up, and the sponsors of our meetings and races have played a significant part in the season's success. We thank them all for their support.
Our focus on club members of Narrandera Race Club and community service from special people involved in the race club was a core theme, with the time-honoured Blue Peacock Memorial meeting in June kicking the season off in grand style.
The August TC (Tom) Lee Memorial meeting was a fitting way to finish our official programmed season.
This year, we also had two other memorial races for two extraordinary gentlemen who greatly impacted NRC and their love for racing: Peter Bloomfield and Ivan George.
We, as a club and town, celebrated their input personally and their ongoing family involvement with NRC.
Community Bank Narrandera Cup Day saw the best field ever, and the metropolitan handicapping scale was afforded to the race for the first time, a monumental box ticked for our country club.
Racing highlights were many.
- Prince Of Helena for Craig Weeding, ridden by Jason Lyon, won his second Narrandera Cup in as many years, which was a fantastic result when defeating the Barbara Joseph, Paul and Matt Jones-trained and Coriah Keatings-ridden One Aye.
- It was a bittersweet result for our president, Graeme Mathieson, as his runner, Just Go Bang, trained by Nick Olive and ridden by Matthew Cartwright, finished third when beaten a long neck, meaning he just missed out on a trip to the Little Dance.
- Hulm for Ross Purcell at Jerilderie, created history, and with Nick Heywood in the saddle, won the inaugural Narraungdera Yarraman ‘Yarra’ Sprint in a near-record record time of 57.91 on a heavy eight-track. Hulm will undoubtedly go on to bigger and better things.
- As a club, on the first Tuesday in November, we will cheer on Prince Helena and One Aye when they represent the club in the $3 million Big Dance and $750,000 Little Dance, respectively.
- Seeing an up-and-coming star in Brial Rose win in the $50,000 Super Maiden for trainer Ron Stubbs and jockey Jason Lyon was also exciting.
The talented Albury-based mare has since won at Gundagai and ran well in Highway company.
While visiting trainers dominated, local trainers Shane Bloomfield and Anthony Craig performed excellently, and we’ve enjoyed seeing both local stables perform well on their home track.
Lastly, and most importantly, how good is our amazing track?
We can’t race without a track that trainers want to race their horses on, and all reports were positive throughout the 2024 season.
A massive well done to our hard-working track curators, Tony Patterson, Shane Bloomfield and the team.
From the committee at Narrandera Race Club, thanks to everyone for supporting the club as we continue to rise through the ranks of country racing clubs in NSW.
We'll now be on call to host a meeting if and when needed.
🏇 🏔 Live the Kosciuszko dream 🏔 🏇
Garry and Marilyn Dyson had no hesitation in selecting Front Page in last year’s Kosciuszko, and they enjoyed a win in the $2 million slot-holder race.
This year's Kosciuszko will be run at Royal Randwick on TAB Everest Day on Saturday, 19 October 2024. It’s more than a race; it’s the social and sporting event of the season, and you can go in the running to win a slot by purchasing a $5 ticket.

As we look back on a huge 2024 of racing in Narrandera, we have to thank our sponsors, especially our major race-day supporters, who made it possible.
Community Bank Narrandera & District is the club's primary sponsor, having been locked in for a massive three-year deal at the beginning of the season.
Our record-breaking Narrandera Cup meeting was a big win for the community and a success that was significantly enhanced by the support of our local bank.
We also have Murrumbidgee Investment Services Leeton and Narrandera, who sponsored our L.W. Peacock Race Day and Narrandera Ex-Servicemen's Club, who sponsored our T.C. Lee Race Day, and we are forever grateful.
There were so many other race sponsors and a huge thank you to everyone who helped make our season the best it has been in recent memory.
Congratulations to the Narrandera Race Club 2024 premiership winners, Craig Weeding, Holly Durnan, and Smart Poppy.
With 16 points, Craig Weeding won 2024 Trainer of the Year, holding off Andrew Dale (12) and Gino D'Altorio (9).
Holly Durnan was the 2024 Jockey of the Year winner with 16 points, ahead of Nick Heywood (10) and Brittany Button (9).
In the Horse of the Year battle, the Craig Weeding-trained Smart Poppy landed two wins and secured six points to claim the title.
A massive thank you to everyone who supported the Narrandera Race Club in 2024.

Weeding to ‘rain’ supreme in main event
Craig Weeding will be looking to achieve a rare feat at Narrandera on Saturday by winning all three feature races in 2024.
In June, the Wangaratta trainer won the Murrumbidgee Investment Services – L.W. Peacock Memorial Cup Benchmark 50 Handicap (1200 Metres) with Smart Poppy (Holly Durnan, $4.40).
Last month, the Weeding-trained Prince Of Helena (Jason Lyon, $4.40) defended his crown in the time-honoured $60,000 Narrandera Cup, earning a place in the $3 million Big Dance to be run at Royal Randwick on the first Tuesday in November.
On Saturday, Toronto Rain (Sarah McDonough) will represent the stable in the Narrandera Ex-Servicemen's Club – T.C. Lee OAM Memorial Cup Benchmark 50 Handicap (1400m), and if the five-year-old wins, it will tick off a hat-trick of Narrandera feature wins for the stable.
Not in the club's history has one trainer triumphed in all three feature races, with the legendary Pete Clancy going closest, but Craig Weeding appears to have every chance on Saturday.

Can Shane Bloomfield continue his hot run?
Many locals will cheer on Narrandera-based trainer Shane Bloomfield when he starts up to six chances at Narrandera on Saturday.
Bloomfield’s stable has been in stellar form, bringing up three winners from their past nine starts.
On the Narrandera Cup program, Flying Celebration (Jack Martin, $10) was too classy in the $35,000 Country Maiden Handicap over the 1400m journey.
At Wagga on July 22, Bloomfield prepared Lafilio (James Innes Jnr, $3.80) for victory in the 1800m Class One Handicap.
It was a popular win, as the six-year-old made every post a winner over the nine-furlong journey.
Flying Celebration (Shaun Guymer, $12) made it back-to-back wins when triumphing in the 1600m Benchmark 58 Handicap at Albury on July 29.
At Narrandera, Bloomfield has Laser Guided Girl and Diamond Carat entered in the T.C. Lee OAM Memorial Cup, and, in a race that he would dearly love to win, Ediva will contest the Peter Bloomfield Memorial Maiden Plate (1000m).
The stable also has White Foot nominated for the Benchmark 50 Handicap (1200m) and in-form stablemates Lafilio and Flying Celebration ready to race in the Class Three Handicap (1600m).

NARRANDERA RACE CLUB will look to send their 2024 season of racing off with a bang on Saturday when hosting the T.C. Lee OAM Memorial Community Race Day.
The six-race Sky 2 program will commence at 12.56pm, with gates opening at 11am, and as it has been throughout 2024, entry into the meeting will be free.
Offering free entry has been a highlight of the 2024 season, leading to big crowds for the club’s L.W. Peacock Memorial meeting in June and Narrandera Cup meeting in July.
On the day, there will be near-capacity fields, with the meeting headlined by the Narrandera Ex-Servicemen's Club – T.C. Lee OAM Memorial Cup 1400m Benchmark 50 Handicap.
On a day that will entertain all walks of life, the talented Sameera will be playing tunes, and the Lion’s Train will be on hand, along with Coffee By Lou.
There’s a two-course luncheon, indoor and outdoor seating, the bar and kiosk, local and metropolitan bookmakers, and the TAB.
Attendees can also put themselves in the running for the $500 member’s draw.
To get involved and become a member of the Narrandera Race Club, visit the secretary’s office, fill out the form, and pay the $10 membership fee.

Narrandera out to finish season off on a high note
The 2024 Narrandera racing season is proving to be a year of highs, and not necessarily due to the number of race meetings as we saw last year, but in the quality of the racing.
This year's Narrandera Cup meeting had a record prizemoney of $300,000 including the Community Bank Narrandera Cup, which was worth $60,000.
The 16 acceptors for the Narrandera Cup had won 5.5 million in accumulated prizemoney, and leading Australian trainer Ciaron Maher had a starter.
The race was a metropolitan-weight race for the first time in our club’s history, which is another massive first for the club.
The locally-owned horse, Just Go Bang, raced by Narrandera Race Club president Graeme Mathieson with trainer Nick Olive, was a good thing beaten and came within 0.2 of a length of a fairytale win and a place in the $3 million Big Dance.
Still, it’s hard to take anything away from the eventual winner, Prince Of Helena, who defended his Narrandera Cup title for Wangaratta trainer and a great supporter of racing in Narrandera, Craig Weeding.
The club has quickly built up a record membership, and free entry for this year has proved popular amongst the increased crowd numbers thus far.
Additionally, the Narrandera Cup Calcutta was a highlight night, and all credit goes to Drew Kenna, who did a great job hosting the event at Narrandera Ex-Servicemen’s Club.
We now prepare to round the year off with the T.C. Lee Memorial Community Race Day, which will be held on Saturday, August 17.
Tom was all about the community, through and through, and this meeting is held in honour of his great work, not only for our race club but for many community groups.
This year, we also honour Ivan George, an ex-president and great volunteer of Narrandera Race Club, who significantly impacted the early developments leading to the function centre construction.
We remember him as a great racing man for our club.
We also support breast cancer research and the efforts of Keely Bloomfield, who is hosting a fund-raiser.
Supporters can find the donation advertisements on our pages and pledge money there or on course on the day.
We will also remember her grandfather, Peter Bloomfield, a fantastic worker for the club and a respected trainer and horseman, who is sorely missed.

Shane Bloomfield kept up his good form at Albury on Monday, with Flying Celebration making it back-to-back wins in the 1600m BM58 Handicap following her maiden win at Narrandera earlier this month. Shane's stable is low-flying, with his past six starters delivering three winners, a second, and two thirds.
Congratulations to local trainer and track curator Shane Bloomfield, who scored a win at Wagga today. With James Innes Jnr in the saddle, LAFILIO made every post a winner to record a gutsy triumph in the 1800m Class 1/Maiden Plate.
Have a listen to what Craig Weeding had to say following Prince Of Helena's win in the $60,000 Community Bank Narrandera Cup.
The final moments of the Narrandera Cup saw the Craig Weeding-trained Prince Of Helena hold on to claim victory in the $60,000 race while booking his spot in the $3 million Big Dance.
Keith Dryden and Brendan Ward teamed up to win the 2020 Narrandera Cup, with Gunga Din proving a popular winner. Keith will be back again next Sunday with up to three chances going around in the $60,000 Bug Dance qualifier.
Here's a blast from the past. The 2019 Narrandera Cup was won by SQUIDENSQUIZZ, trained by Ron Stubbs and ridden by Josh Richards. Can Josh win another cup next Sunday?
It was a terrific day's racing at Narrandera on Saturday. Here is a little wrap of our winners. Race 1 - Elders 1600m Class 1/Maiden Plate: Field The Moment. Trainer: Matthew Dale. Jockey: Nick Heywood. Race 2 - Glenn Preston Real Estate 1400m Maiden Handicap: Kerma Art. Trainer: Gary Colvin. Jockey: Holly Durnan Race 3 - Community Bank Narrandera & District 1000m Class 1 Handicap: Ruperts Red Rocket. Trainer: Craig Weeding. Jockey: Jake Duffy. Race 4 - Charles Sturt Hotel 1000m Maiden Plate: Dilution. Trainer: Dan McCarthy. Jockey: Danny Beasley. Race 5 - Murrumbidgee Investment Services LW Peacock Memorial Cup 1200m: Smart Poppy. Trainer Craig Weeding. Jockey: Holly Durnan. Race 6 - Narrandera Bakery 1400m Benchmark 50 Handicap: New Jersey. Trainer: Donna Scott. Jockey: Amy O'Driscoll.
Just Go Bang, GOES BANG. Our president, Graeme Mathieson, had every reason to celebrate on Thursday, with Just Go Bang winning on day one of the Wagga Gold Cup carnival. Trained to the minute by Nick Olive and ridden a treat by Billy Owen, the four-year-old ran out the 2000m strongly to win the Benchmark 66 event.
Congratulations to our president, Graeme Mathieson, who celebrated a good win at Canberra on Friday. Trained by Nick Olive and ridden by Billy Owen, JUST GO BANG was too strong in the 1600m Class Three Handicap. Now a four-time winner, could the Sizzling gelding be a smoky for this year's Narrandera Cup and Big Dance qualifier? The horse has a perfect 2 from 2 record at Narrandera and could get into the race on the limit weight. Narrandera Race Club Racing Manager Michael Bailey has put the suggestion to Graeme, and time will tell. For those keeping track, the records for Narrandera Cup winners back to 1977 have the following stats for local owners, trainers, and jockeys. Trainer 1987: RTJ Bob Smith - Dimar 2002: Steve Rix - Let's Jive Jockey Andrew Bloomfield 1994: Becquia (T: J D Carroll) 1997: Laudham Red (T: Wayne Carroll) 2003: Marcon (T: Gino D'Altorio) Owners 2002: Steve Rix - Let's Jive (T: Steve Rox) 2011: Steve and Karen Menzies- Mrs Menzies (T: Trevor Sutherland)
With the 2024 Narrandera Cup fast approaching, we thought we'd share the final moments of Prince of Helena's win in the 2023 Narrandera Cup. Who will take it out in July?
Our race season is just around the corner, with the club's first meeting in June. That means it's time to start thinking about those beautiful winter outfits and our always-popular fashions on the field.

The T C Lee Memorial Cup will be held Saturday 14th August 2021 at Narrandera's all weather racecourse. The Public are very welcome to enjoy full TAB services, meals available in the Function Centre, the Bar and Shirl's well stocked kiosk. We really hoped to come together to celebrate an important part of our race day....Fashions on the Field with our loyal fun-loving Patrons young and older!!!!
