We are Ness and Ariel, a couple who love to experiment with plant based cuisine - and we want to share our cooking passion and love of food with you. After 20 years of traveling, running businesses abroad and eating our way through the continents we have settled in Hobart and run our own food stall and vegan catering. We want to show you how delicious and exciting plant based cuisine can be. We appear in pop up events and markets in and around Hobart and we are available for catering.

Thankyou Daniella. It was such a delight to cater these goodies for your Grandma's 89th birthday party yesterday. It goes to show you are never too old to enjoy some plant powered goodness in your life. We were so happy to receive your feedback that everyone loved the goodies. It really means a lot to us.

🌱'A big Thank you for the wonderful platter and amazing cake! They looked and tasted absolutely divine and our 89 year old mother / grandmother loved it and felt very spoiled.'🌱

Featured below are our grazing platter and raw tiramisu cake (my favourite πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹).

Our last Sumatra stop was Pulau Weh, an island off the northern coast of Sumatra. Traveling around Sumatra is not a quick skip and hop. Everything takes time. Trying to avoid taking another flight resulted in about 20 hours of road and ferry travel (using 5 different modes of transportation) to transit from Bukit Lawang to Pulau Weh. The night bus was surprisingly comfortable and was the final destination it worth the travel time? It sure was!

We had no idea what to expect from the island. We were surprised to find it reminded us of what Asia used to be like 30 years ago. No luxury resorts and hotels, no fancy restaurants. Even renting a scooter proved to be tricky!
It was exactly what we were looking for.

We spent our final 10 days snorkeling in the beautiful clear ocean teaming with coloured fish and corals, scootering around the island looking for different snorkeling spots, searching for all the different hidden vegan delights the local cuisine offered and spoiling as many dogs and cats as we could πŸ˜†. We befriended a number of locals and left feeling like one day we will return.

We spent a glorious 2 weeks in the Gunung Leuser National Park area in Sumatra, Indonesia. The Park contains just under 8000 km2 of tropical rainforest, making it the largest national park in Indonesia. The Park is considered one of the last places on earth to still have some of the planets most endangered animals co-existing in the wild including the stunning Thomas leaf Monkeys, white handed Gibbons, Elephants, Tigers, Rhinos, Sunbears and of course - the Sumatran Orangutan (approximately 5000 of them).

We spent our days enjoying incredibly delicious food, swimming in the river and relaxing on our balcony hoping to spot the ever elusive forest creatures.

During our stay we also took a 4 day trek in the rainforest outside Bukit Lawang. The trek was sweaty work, lots of climbing in and out of valleys, lots of leeches but very breathtaking. We saw some amazing century old trees reaching to the sky, isolated waterfalls deep in the forest and only on our last morning at camp did we finally manage to spot a pair of wild orangutans - mum and bubs high in the trees feasting on fruits. We also emerged with bruised hips from sleeping on solid ground (certainly not glamorous I can tell you).

In 2003 a flash flood, caused by the combination of illegal logging up the river and massive rains, hit Bukit Lawang in the middle of the night and destroyed the entire town along the riverbank.
239 people lost their lives and 1,400 locals lost their homes.
Unfortunately, it seems like illegal logging and deforestation for palm oil is still a huge problem along the borders of the National Park and across large swathes of Northern Sumatra.😞🍌

I've never liked Sept weather in Tassie. Always windy and rainy and unpredictable. Perfect month to get away and enjoy some warmer shores. Sumatra is our destination on this escape, primarily to see the rainforest and hopefully some orangutans.

After a few days in busy KL we started our adventure at Lake Toba - the largest volcanic lake in the world and home to the island of Samosir - the largest island within an island. What a beautiful spot. Idyllic views, warm clean water to take a dip in, welcoming locals and surprisingly tasty and very cheap vegan food.

Had a lovely few days exploring the island on our little Scoopy scooter and happily chilling with all the gorgeous local pooches and cats.

Stay tuned for more adventures as we next head to the Sumatran jungle.

This Sunday is our last appearance at Farmgate selling our baked goods and pantry staples until November. So be sure to pop by and stock up on any goodies you might be craving in the next few months.

Next Sunday (Father's Day) we will be making a pop-up appearance at the Grub Hub where we will be serving our special brunch menu - bring Dad down to Farmgate and treat him to a delicious meal!! It would be great to have your support at this event - if we do well it may mean more regular appearances at the Grub Hub over summer.

We will be returning to market life in November - its looking to be a full summer calendar so after months of home renovations and cooking we are taking some time to recharge the batteries and enjoy someone else cooking for us.
