SASSY KUNST by Lisa Hughes & Randa Magdi
The Owens Collective, Islington
Exhibition Open Friday 18th Saturday, 19th & Sunday 20th of October | 9am – 2pm
OPENING NIGHT - Friday 18th October | 6pm – 9pm
Randa Magdi and Lisa Ellen Hughes are LGBTQIA artists who explore the eclectic collaboration of creating colourful contemporary art together. In their third joint exhibition, ‘Sassy Kunst’ is exactly that Sassy, Complimentary, Unique, Vibrant Art. Together they portray the vitality of expressing vibrancy in the essence of creating a narrative around the subject.
The exhibition ‘Sassy Kunst’ captures the artists' imagination and love for colour as they both reflect a visual language capturing the intensity of pigment evoking emotional connectivity. They create in varying techniques and application, but their work enhances the inspiration of the creative process incorporating a unity in presentation. Both artists experience difficulties and challenges with related health issues and create art as a therapy to express themselves. Randa and Lisa continue to collaborate artistically exploring their complementary styles of perfection and imperfection with different art mediums.

Kellett and Lee are Islington based and have collaborated in 2024 to produce mixed media 3D works in clay and recycled metal.
Their exhibition at The Show Room will also feature their work as individuals.
Kellett works with recycled metal and machine parts and sometimes uses found objects (eg dolls, skulls, mannequins) to make biomechanical forms. #scrapsculpture #biomechanics

Lee’s work is mostly bird focused. Textile bird ‘portraits’ are made from wire, plastic and upcycled textiles. In 2024 she has returned to ceramics, after many years, to continue to explore the theme of things with wings. #textilebird #birdscuplture

‘Four windows, four artists. Being supported and supporting each other as artists to bring our own process and creative output into the public space.’
Margot Broug
As a small group of four Artists, for this particular Exhibition, we were interested in exploring the themes surrounding “the window” and its metaphorical possibilities.
‘As a metaphor, the window encapsulates a liminal space, marking the boundary between the familiar and the enigmatic. Artists have employed the window to evoke a sense of potential, to stir feelings of longing, and to allude to the mysteries that lie beyond’.
The window can be viewed from both sides evoking the senses and promoting all manner of storytelling. It is this collective storytelling and sharing of ideas surrounding this theme that has provided the inspiration for this Exhibition.
