*Warning – potential distressing content below*

For those of you who are unaware, it is National Road Safety Week (NRSW) – 5th – 12th of May. An annual initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highway (SARAH) Group, joining with government and other road safety advocates, to highlight the impact of road trauma and ways to decrease it.

We wish to share Amy’s story with you to educate and remind people of the importance correct road and motor vehicle practice has in preventing road accidents from occurring.

Road and motor vehicle accidents tend to stem from;
• Driver’s being distracted while driving – including using a mobile phone, texting, snap chatting and also distractions from passengers;
• Driving at excessive speeds;
• Drink or drug driving;
• Improper seatbelt use;
• Driving late at night;

Why are we telling you things you probably already know?

Because our daughter and sister Amy knew all of the above. She had an impeccable driving record and had undergone a defensive driving course before she obtained her P plates.

But one lapse in her judgement on the late afternoon of Sunday 13 September 2020, she got in the car with a P plater which resulted in the following.

That P plater had been:
• Drink driving;
• Driving at excessive speed;
• Both the driver and her passenger (Amy) were displaying improper seatbelt use; and
• The driver was distracted;

The driver caused the death of our daughter and sister Amy by taking a six second snapchat of herself, panning over to Amy.

The driver with her narcissistic behaviour took her eyes off the road, giving enough time to leave the wrong side of the road, hit an embankment and flip the vehicle several times. She walked away with a broken collar bone and Amy’s life was taken in the blink of an eye and our lives were changed forever to what we call a living hell.

Amy never should have gotten in that vehicle. It broke all the rules we had instilled in her from early childhood.

We do not want Amy’s death to be in vein. We do not want any other family to ever go through this horrific pain and suffering. Your lives are too important.

So please, we beg you to follow the road safety rules and encourage those around you to as well so that you never lose a loved one like we did.

Everyone has the right to get home safely.

Please take care and thank you.

My last road trip with my beautiful daughter Amy Louise was on 22 May 2020. It was a 5 hour trip and we covered off so much in that time. If only I knew it was to be the last time I intimately spent with my baby girl I would have recorded it.

We covered off on what she wanted to call her babies, her dream home, her dream man, her riding aspirations, career goals and her catering dreams. We talked avidly about having a catering venture together when she returned home. Amy’s dreams were a bit more extravagant to mine, as in she would have loved to open a café and we had even planned what the menu would look like.

For those of you who don’t know, Amy was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident on 13 September 2020. We are absolutely gutted that this world has lost our fun, ambitious, loving, beautiful and crazy daughter, sister and niece.

Fast forward to 2024 and in her memory we are excited to officially launch Amy Lou’s & Co. We have a love of food and cooking and we want to share Amy’s dream and our passion with you.

On this page we will also share beloved stories of our Amy Lou to keep her memory alive and encourage you to share any you have of her with us too, including photos.

With love,
Kate, Steven, Jessica, Tyson, Lexi, Ben, Ellie & Anna x
