Noosa Jazz Club

Noosa Jazz Club The Noosa Heads Jazz Club Inc holds the annual Noosa Jazz Party and regular classic jazz events The Noosa Heads Jazz Club Inc. Guests are made most welcome.

is a volunteer run, not-for-profit, Incorporated Association that stages regular classic jazz events, including Noosa’s festival of jazz, the Noosa Jazz Party in late August/early September each year. The Jazz Club’s regular concerts are usually held every month at the fabulous, heritage listed Majestic Theatre at Pomona on a weekday afternoon. The Majestic accommodates the Club’s grand piano, has

a bar with snacks and is simply a wonderful place for live music. The ground floor is set up cabaret style with tables and chairs and has seating in the mezzanine. Bringing your own lunch is permitted and that makes for a most enjoyable event with your friends. The Noosa Jazz Party is normally staged over eight days starting in the last week of August and finishing the next week on Fathers Day. Its format centres around four evening concerts at The J theatre in the heart of Noosa, with five ensemble sets each night. The J has a bar, catered meals and coffee. The Noosa Jazz Party is unique among jazz festivals, because the Noosa Jazz Club only invites the best individual jazz musicians to play at the Jazz Party, forming them into ensembles to create exciting, improvised jazz. These musicians also play at other venues in the lead up to, and during the centrepiece event at The J, such as at clubs, bars, cafes, on ferry or riverboat cruises between Hastings Street and the Noosa Marina, the Majestic Theatre, dining at lunch or dinner at restaurants and a free concert in the park at the Riverstage along the Noosa River at Noosaville on Fathers Day. About The Tribute Concert
Lu Watters Yerba Buena Jazz Band, founded in 1939, was the primary force behind the USA West Coast Great Revival of Traditional Jazz. Lu discovered a love of 1920s hot jazz as played by King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, Jelly Roll Morton and other pioneering jazz musicians. The Dawn Club, The Big Bear Lodge and Hambone Kelly’s were the hottest Traditional Jazz haunts in San Francisco through the 1940s and 50s, with concerts only interrupted by the war years.

To celebrate the Bands impact, Ian Smith trumpet, John Braben trumpet, Chris Schnack trombone, Paul Williams saxophone & clarinet, Bernice Haydock piano, Glen Flenady banjo, Richard Stevens sousaphone and Rod Andrew drums, will present a concert of the hit tunes made famous by Lu Watters and his band at the height of their popularity.
