It gives me immense pleasure to close 2021 with this amazing win at the ‘Postcards from Parkes’ photography competition organised by the Parkes Shire Council in association with Northparkes Mines under the banner Parkes Community Arts Festival.

My photo was unanimously voted number 1 by all the judges :) Another photo stood in the top 10 and 3 others exhibited in the top 100.

Top 10 photos have been printed as official Postcards of Parkes and will circulate in the region for years to follow. (My belief is 5-10 years)

The announcement was made by the honourable mayor of Parkes Cr Ken Keith OAM (https://www.parkes.nsw.gov.au/your-council/about-council/councillors/in) at the launch event of Teeny Tiny Art Festival organised on 10th December at Parkes Shire Libraries.

1st prize- The World War 2 experience. ✈️

Model- The very beautiful Rosemaree Laurie who brought with her the creative styling ideas. We tried to portray the contribution of women during the war.

Location- The magnificent HARS Aviation Museum - Parkes. I believe this is one of the rare museums in the world offering a pilot seat of a World War 2 aircraft. I discovered the museum the other day and couldn’t believe the level of easy access to the aircrafts. Discussed the photoshoot idea with the friendly staff which they welcomed with open arms. I highly recommend this place for anyone visiting rural NSW.

One of the Top 10- Bushman Hill Vibes

Model- The very patient dude Rakesh Nair. This is a long exposure shot (no graphic design) which took a few retakes. Rakesh’s yoga skills were handy as he stood still and held his breath for 4 seconds while I moved the light. Rakesh is an artist, check out his music on Obsidian A.D.

Location- Bushman Hill Reserve. Parkes old water tank which is now full of Graffiti and gives a unique vibe to the town.

One of the Top 100- Girl and Car 🚗 & 💃

Model- The very beautiful and talented Chantelle Feasey. This shot was taken at freezing temperatures. I can't thank her enough for the tough modelling task she did for me while I was shooting in my full winter wear.

Location- One can call it 'Just another backyard in Parkes' (outside CBD). This car is visible from the road, we just approached the owner of the house who was so welcoming that he willingly changed his weekend plan as per our availability. The shoot lasted about 1.5 hours during which he was a spectator supporting us ocassionally. A very humble resident of Parkes.

"Ever since I moved to Sydney, I wanted to capture the fireworks at NYE. I believe I was one of the 1st ones to apply for the green zone pass as they became available. Sydney CBD was almost fortified that night.

The pass did not help much, and it was an adventure securing a photography spot amidst restrictions. I am so glad that wandering in the CBD for 2 hours for a spot and requesting security and police personnel was all worth it."
