What a finish! Adelaide Bridging Impact Housing Summit – 2025

Our final event of the 2025 Bridging Impact Housing, SDA & Community Summit Series was an overwhelming success - rounding out a powerful national journey that began in Perth, travelled through Melbourne and Brisbane, and concluded with an inspiring finale in Adelaide.
This marks our final NDISDA sector event for 2025 in the East, and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped shape vital conversations around housing, disability, and community reform across Australia.

Highlights from the Adelaide Summit:

Anna-Kate Chervatin explored how partnerships and reforms are connecting people to safe, inclusive, and sustainable housing.

Kim Herbert (The Salvation Army SA) and Meridee Evans (CALHN) showcased a transformative collaboration bridging health, housing, and homelessness supports - redefining hospital discharge pathways with dignity and care. Both speakers presented on the Kurlana Padnipadniny, a transitional supported accommodation program run by The Salvation Army in South Australia. It provides safe housing and holistic support for people experiencing homelessness or housing instability, particularly those with complex needs such as trauma, mental health challenges, or social disadvantage.

Michael Hicks (Department of Human Services SA) and Michael Kromwyk GAICD (Cara) unpacked the challenges and opportunities shaping sustainability, accountability, and the opportunity to strategically diversify opportunities for SIL providers in South Australia.
Designing for Robust SDA – Kirsty Hewitt (Khab Architects) inspired with her design-led approach to resilient, participant-focused accommodation that balances safety, independence, and home-like comfort.

Thank you to our Panellists NDISDA Meriki Webber of Amity Housing Pty Ltd Housing, Wendy de la Ruwiere of the The Angels Disability Support Services, Michael Kromywk , Michael Hicks, SA Dept of Human services and Carer, father of a Participant, Tim Price

Second Session – Adapting for Change: NDIS to Aged Care
A huge thank you to Lisa Baker from the Healthcare Providers Association for delivering an excellent and insightful session on the transition from NDIS to Aged Care and updates for In Home Care Supports.

We also extend our gratitude to all attendees who joined both sessions - your engagement, discussion, and feedback have been outstanding.

The energy, collaboration, and commitment across every city this year have been extraordinary. Together, we’re building stronger pathways, smarter housing, and more inclusive communities for the future.

Adelaide, we end our 2025 Bridging Impact housing series in your city! Following successful conferences in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, NDISDA and Impact Housing are excited to be hosting the Adelaide Bridging Impact Housing Summit: NDISDA, Robust SDA, Mental Health and Social Housing, SILSDA on 11th Nov 2025 from 8.30am - 12.30pm to be held at the Adelaide Town Hall

About the Summit

Australia’s housing and care landscape is changing - and South Australia is at the forefront of that transformation.

Hear from South Australia Housing Trust, Salvation Army and their collaboration with SA Health on Hospital to Home, and more!

This high-impact event unites government leaders, NDIS, SIL and SDA providers, health professionals, and community innovators in a shared mission: to bridge the gap between housing and care through design, policy, and practice that puts people first.

The Focus
At a time of growing demand and tightening resources, this summit addresses the pressing questions shaping the sector’s future:
- How can we strengthen SDA and SIL delivery while maintaining participant trust and sustainability?
- What innovative housing models are emerging from hospital-to-home transitions and impact housing collaborations?
- How can we unlock the potential of vacant SDA homes to address the crisis accommodation shortage?
- What role do design, policy, and cross-sector partnerships play in ensuring South Australians have access to safe, inclusive, and enduring housing options?

Through evidence-based presentations, sector insights, and collaborative discussions, attendees will gain practical pathways to advance housing stability, quality of care, and integrated community support.

Queensland, bookings are filling fast, and have been doing so since 2024! - This is an event not to be missed

NDISDA SDA Housing and Disability and the Impact Housing National Strategic Alliance is proud to be hosting the Bridging Impact Housing and SILSDA Queensland Conferences 27th & 28th August 2025

With attendees expected from across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and beyond, this event will serve as a critical knowledge exchange for organisations and individuals committed to the future of impact-driven housing.

With SDA participant numbers projected to exceed 30,000 by the end of 2025, national focus is shifting beyond bricks and mortar to questions of quality, viability, occupancy, and social purpose. Despite increased investment in new dwellings, vacancy rates are rising in some SDA segments, particularly in metro areas, while others - such as Robust SDA - remain critically under-supplied.

Simultaneously, Queensland’s hospitals are facing a mounting discharge crisis, with over 1,000 people medically ready to leave hospital, yet unable to do so due to a lack of suitable housing and supports.

At the same time, underutilised SDA properties across the state represent a powerful yet unrealised opportunity. These homes could play a transformative role in addressing urgent housing gaps - particularly for those requiring Short-Term, Medium-Term, transitional, crisis, or mental health accommodation.

But doing so requires more than good intentions. It demands policy clarity, design flexibility, operational alignment, and—above all—collaborative leadership across systems and sectors.

Building on the success of previous forums, this national event will bring together a distinguished line-up of speakers, including system leaders from health, housing, disability, and mental health sectors. The conference will examine the evolving SDA environment and explore integrated housing models that are inclusive, trauma-informed, and driven by participant voice and long-term value.

Featured Keynote Speakers Include:
Dr John Chesterman, Queensland Public Advocate
“Safeguarding Rights and Strengthening Systems in Disability

Dr Chesterman will provide strategic insights into Queensland’s Disability Reform Framework, examining the role of supported decision-making, rights protection, and systems change in the post-Royal Commission era.

Deborah Pratt, Executive Director, Queensland Mental Health Commission“Bridging Housing and Mental Health – Reform, Integration & Opportunity”

Deborah will speak to the Commission’s housing and mental health priorities, including the role of supportive housing, innovation, and collaborative design in improving outcomes for Queenslanders with complex needs.

James Parker, Manager, Disability Health Policy – Queensland Health“Delayed Discharge and the Need for Housing Pathways”

James will explore the intersection of housing and health through the lens of hospital discharge data, outlining Queensland Health’s approach to enabling timely, safe transitions into community-based accommodation.

Michael Fuller, Principal, Fuller Insights“SDA in 2025 – Risk, Demand, and Social Purpose in a Complex Landscape”

A nationally recognised SDA strategist, Michael will unpack the realities of market saturation, operational risk, participant sourcing, and the shifting expectations around ethical, data-driven investment.

This conference is designed for:

SDA & SIL Providers
Builders, Investors, Developers, Architects, Designers
Allied Health & Support Coordinators
Community Housing Organisations
Hospital Discharge & Public Health Professionals
Mental Health and Justice Sector Leaders
Government and Policy Stakeholders
Advocates and Participant Representatives
Whether you are delivering frontline services, planning infrastructure, managing transitions, or shaping policy - this is the platform to align, learn, and lead.

Why this Conference matters - This event provides a rare opportunity to:

- Understand how underutilised SDA properties can be repositioned as part of the broader impact housing ecosystem
- Explore the design, operational and compliance realities of delivering housing that is participant-driven and system-aligned
- Engage with Queensland’s leading voices on housing, health, and mental health reform
- Connect across disciplines and jurisdictions to explore co-designed, sustainable housing solutions
- Access strategic tools and data to guide SDA delivery and reduce vacancy
- Build lasting partnerships that can drive better outcomes for people with disability and complex needs
