Let’s talk about floral colour palettes & why we CAN’T accommodate some 🎨👇

💐 Unless you have a specific arrangement in mind and fill out our custom order form, our premium bouquet range is made using a lush mix of premium Aussie-grown, seasonal, native-style florals selected fresh from the market (we choose the palette 😊)

✨ For our elopement packages, we have a selection of 5 of our favourite colour palettes and will use the best blooms of the season in line with the palette you choose

🤍 For custom orders and full-service weddings and events, we do our best to accommodate ANY colour palette

However, to uphold our sustainable values, we are limited to what flowers are currently in season and, of course, their natural colours.

We only use flowers as nature intended them (100% natural) & we don’t use any chemically preserved varieties, painted, or dyed flowers 🌾

Working with seasonal, fresh flowers has many perks (longer-lasting blooms, supporting our local economy and a reduced carbon footprint) but it can limit the availability of certain flower varieties that are not in season all year round or are typically imported from overseas (such as roses, orchids and other exotic flowers varieties)🪻

💬 Any questions? Leave a comment, we’re always happy to have a chat about our practices!

*Please note we no longer offer this style during peak WA summer Dec->Feb due to the risk of extreme heat damage. If you are having an indoor ceremony with AC we are happy to discuss flower options! 🌷

It’s Plastic Free July, so I wanted to share a little bit about how we’re reducing our single-use plastics here at Euka ♻️

Sustainability is one of my core values that I incorporate into my business. I believe we all have a responsibility to make eco-friendly choices and treat our planet with kindness and respect 🫶

🌏 Euka is 100% FOAM-FREE and we avoid plastic materials wherever possible; opting for compostable, recyclable and reusable materials in all aspects of our designs. Swipe through to learn more!

While, as an industry, we still have a way to go, there are many growers and florists taking steps to raise awareness and become more sustainable in their practice 💚

Some great accounts to follow for further education are and .not.flown.

If you’re in the industry, I’d love to hear from you. What are you doing to reduce your plastic use?

And to anyone else, I’m always happy to have a chat. Feel free to get in touch at any time with any questions 💬

The Perrellas 🤍

My darling cousin Jason and his beautiful bride Eilish tied the knot back in March 🫶

It was a joy to celebrate alongside them and create Eilish’s wedding bouquet using seasonal, locally-grown flowers and a few stems of imported blooms 🌿

This wedding was the perfect example of when perfection may not always outweigh practicality, and how sustainability & supporting local may not be entirely black and white.

White roses were on our flower list- and Eilish wanted her bridesmaids to be holding a single stem for a classic & simple look. For a hand-held single stem to look balanced, it needs to be relatively large and hardy, as it will be held out of water for the duration of the ceremony & photos (a petite, floppy daisy was not going to make the cut- so roses were favoured).

There is only 1x high quality Australian rose supplier available in Perth WA- which you can imagine is very limiting. Despite placing my orders as early as possible, they did not have any Aussie-grown roses available when I arrived to collect the flowers a few days before the wedding.

I considered using local dahlias as a substitute, but did not want to risk the wind and late-summer heat (at their beachfront wedding location) wilting or damaging these delicate blooms.

We ALWAYS prioritise using seasonal & local blooms only, but when there is not enough local product available or unforeseen supply issues, we will substitute with imports in order to fulfil our clients brief & vision and uphold the quality & signature design style of our work.

Florists are creative and artistic designers, but we are also problem solvers and need to be highly adaptable in a volatile line of work, with MANY variables at play.

Thank you again to all of my amazing couples who have placed their trust in me to make their wedding flowers as special as possible 💐🙌

Why is it so hard to trace imported flowers? 🤔

I recently visited the flower market here in Perth and shared how I found kangaroo paw bunches that were grown and imported from overseas! Check out my recent reels if you missed that one ☝️

So why is it so hard to tell which flowers are grown in Australia and which aren’t?

The reason is that there’s no government requirement for country of origin labelling of cut flowers in Australia. It’s completely optional for suppliers to share where their flowers were grown.

However, now offer ‘Australian Grown’ rubber bands to raise awareness about country of origin labelling, increase support for Aussie farmers, and make it easier for us to choose locally-grown flowers 🌾

We’d LOVE to see more wholesalers adopt clear messaging like this; and some are already making steps to label and share where each bunch was grown. However, we have a long way to go as an industry, as many bunches are difficult to trace or displays and signage aren’t as clear as they could be.

To learn more, check out .not.flown and , and if you’re curious as a customer about where your flowers are grown, one of the best things you can do is ask your local florist / flower supplier.

The more we ask the questions, the easier it will be to get the answers and to help create more traceable supply chains 💐🌏

27/05/2024

It is National Reconciliation week; this years theme is ‘Now More Than Ever’, a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will — and must — continue.

2024 marks the first Reconciliation week since the 2023 Voice to Parliament Referendum was defeated.

We cannot begin to fix the problems of the present without first acknowledging the truth of our history. NRW asks and allows us to come together as a nation, to reflect on and acknowledge the stolen generations, systemic racism and historical injustice that is an ongoing source of intergenerational trauma for Aboriginal & Torres Straight Islander peoples.

We must stand up and come together to defend and uphold the rights of First Nations peoples; educate ourselves, actively call out racism wherever we encounter it, listen to and actively reinforce the voices of Aboriginal & Torres Straight Islander peoples, and work towards a future built on understanding, respect and equality.

Not just this week; but ongoing.

You can read more on the website, attend local events and facilitate conversation within your community.

Euka acknowledges the traditional owners & custodians of the land in which we work and live; the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nations. We pay our respects to Noongar elders past, present and emerging and to all traditional owners of this country and its waters. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.

Always was and always will be.

There are 3 kinds of flowers we DON’T use here at Euka 💐 Can you guess?

1️⃣ Flowers that are imported from overseas. While this can be hard to trace, we do our absolute best to use locally-grown flowers, which helps to reduce ‘flower miles’ and the carbon footprint of our flowers 🌏

2️⃣ Flowers that have been grown out-of-season. It makes sense to use what’s currently available in abundance! Flowers that are in season look more beautiful, are more environmentally friendly to use, and connect us to the changing environment around us 🧡

3️⃣ Flowers that are bleached, dyed, or preserved with toxic chemicals. Preserved flowers cannot be composted and go straight to landfill, leeching their nasty chemicals into the earth and adding to our increasing waste issue. We only use flowers as nature intended them- 100% natural 🌿

Any questions? Feel free to leave a comment or get in touch at any time, I’m always happy to have a chat! 📩

Asumi & Alex with their fur babies 🥹🌸

I can’t believe I haven’t posted any of these shots from this magical day yet!

I created Alex & Asumi’s wedding flowers back in October, with a soft, romantic, spring-inspired colour palette 💐

All arrangements are 100% foam-free, and were re-purposed from the ceremony to the reception venue to get the most out of their blooms 🌏

We offer re-purposing as part of our service, just ask! We will recommend designs best suited for this purpose and work behind the scenes to build, pack down, transport and re-design your blooms at two separate locations on your big day (pending logistics) 💪

Why don’t we use ONLY native wildflowers here at Euka? 🌾

While we love Australian native varieties (they’re our specialty!), we work with all of the amazing seasonal, Australian-grown product available 🧡

This includes a lot of South African varieties, such as proteas, because we love how hardy, long-lasting and vibrant they are. They also naturally grow and thrive in a similar climate, so we can easily source them locally here in WA.

For weddings and events, this keeps options flexible to suit our clients’ preferred floral preferences and colour palettes, while still working within our signature design style 💐

(Note: Whilst we work hard to fulfill your wildest floral dreams, we may not be able to guarantee your favourite type of flower if it is imported or out of season).

All flower types are beautiful to us, and we love to explore and experiment with different seasonal varieties to make the most of what nature has to offer.

At the end of the day, we prioritise the use of locally-grown flowers and we work closely with the seasons to carefully select high-quality, natural blooms to create high-impact designs with a low impact on our environment 🌏🫶

THIS is why we do what we do 🫶🌏

The floristry industry might appear to be ‘natural’ and ‘environmental’ but the reality is far different.

Between unsustainable farming, transport emissions, and plastic pollution, the industry has a long way to go 🌿

But there are MANY amazing flower farmers and florists raising awareness and becoming more sustainable in their practice!

We urge you to ask your local florist where they are sourcing their flowers and what materials they use, so we can increase awareness, education and demand for sustainably grown blooms 💐

Is there anything we’ve missed? Florists and farmers, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Let’s raise the awareness & build an industry that protects people and the planet 🧡
