Blueberry Lily, Dianella revolta, hairless, perennial herb with a lifespan of many years, forming clumps and growing from rhizomes underground. It flowers one at a time on each spray, prolonging the flowering time.
It’s growing on a coffee rock wall near the house. I think the flower is just a stunning artwork!!! The vibrant colours and its shape. Zoom in. So grateful to still be finding blooms to wow me here at the Peace Patch. This acacia dealbata, flowered late August and today I took a photo of it’s seed pods. We have 3 of these trees on the Peace Patch and thought they may not belong. With a little research they are native to NSW, but have naturalised here in WA. Traditionally they actually have been used to make rope from the bark, glue from the sap, furniture from the timber, the leaves have been used in Indian cooking and perfume from the flower essence!!! False boronia, lysiandra calycina. It belongs to the family Phyllanthaceae, which mostly occurs in subtropical areas. The plant has soft green leaves and white flowers with pinkish green shades, which dangle down from the stem on long flower stalks (pedicels). Flowers have no petals. The apparent petals are sepals, hence the name Leaf Flower. There’s so much of this beautiful bush in bloom this season. Why is it called false boronia??? Is it because of the lack of scent???
