🌲 Venue Review: Linga Longa Estate, Balingup.🌲

I feel that this slice of heaven deserves a spot on my page. From the moment I arrived for a recent ceremony, I was captivated. Nestled amongst 700 acres of hills on the Blackwood River, Linga Longa is an ideal spot to get married.

The trees, rolling hills, scent of fresh pine, the wildlife and the hospitality is something to write home about.

The ideal ceremony space, The Forest Cathedral, is breathtaking. You’re driven up by bus, and sit amongst the pines as you watch the magic unfold.

The reception space is by the dam, located right by the glamping setup. Yep, there are glamping tents there so you don’t have far to travel after the celebrations!

The owners, Boxer and Bec, are truly special and their hospitality is amazing. They invited my family and I back the day after the ceremony and took us by buggy through the hills, exploring the bike tracks and all the property had to offer.

So, if you’re looking for a destination wedding, where you and your guests have access to a beautiful ceremony and reception space, a cooked breakfast, water sports, set up glamping tents, and you have the new wedding suit to yourself, this is the spot.

Celebrants are people, too. 🫣

I’m often asked if I’ve had any big fumbles or mishaps during my ceremonies. To be honest, no. I rehearse and practice all of your scripts before your big day.

…But, there can be times where there’s a slip of the tongue. 🫠

And, it’s all about the comeback!

And it was here, where Alvin captured my comeback, after directing guests to the bar for “cocks” after the ceremony. 🙈

You see, during most housekeeping messages, I direct guests somewhere for ‘cocktail hour.’ Except for this ceremony, guests were being directed for ‘drinks and nibbles.’

My brain kicked in a little too late and I stopped half way through the word “cocktail.” The reception was great, and I told guests, “not that, go for drinks and nibbles instead.”

Own your slips of the tongue and carry on. 👌🏻

Share your gaffes below, we’d love to hear them!

Here are 3 ways to show us some love in the digital world. 🥰

Nothing beats a big teary hug at the end of your ceremony, but there are some other ways you can say ‘thank you’ which can really go a long way for our biz!

If you think back to planning your own wedding, you would have noticed the HUGE range of vendors available. It can all be very overwhelming, and it’s great to hear from others who have booked us in the past. What can really help us stand out, are your glowing reviews on Google & Facebook, and recommendations on wedding pages, and word of mouth. 🩷

If I’ve married you, or you’ve seen me in action, please leave me some love at the following link:

Thank you. 🙏🏻 🥰

Amongst a sea of their loved ones, Bec and Ethan only had eyes for each other. 🥹

These two beautiful people were so engaged in their ceremony. They listened deeply to my words and shared their own promises with such love and emotion.

Even though they had over 80 of their loved ones present, it felt like they were the only people in the room. You could feel intimacy and love between these two soul mates.

What a privilege to be part of a celebration of their love. 🥹🩷

P.S I am a fan of an ‘unplugged’ vow reading. I’ll let your guests know you won’t be using a microphone and wish to keep your words more intimate. 🥰

Have you ever been a guest at a wedding, and at the end of the ceremony, you’re wondering “what the heck do we do now?” 🙃

Well fear not! Before your ceremony officially kicks off, I do some housekeeping. During this time I tell your guests exactly what is happening after the ceremony, and what it is they need to do.

A few of the main things I share are:

✅ Phones on silent and away
✅ Whether to save congrats for later, or offer them straight after the ceremony
✅ Where exactly your guests will go after the ceremony
✅ Any specific photos (group, family) & to stick around after
✅ How to throw confetti (if necessary 😜)

Are there any other housekeeping matters you’d have before your ceremony begins? 😄

Let’s talk celebrant positioning. 🧍🏼‍♀️

There are two common positions where your celebrant can stand during your ceremony: with you, or off to the side. Your choice is completely up to you, and could come down to how you’d like your photos to look, the level of comfort & support you feel you need from me, traditions or something else.

Many couples still love the traditional style with me standing with you. This can help to calm your nerves, allow me to offer reassurance and keeps you very involved in your story as I read.

It’s becoming more common for the celebrant to stand to the side during most of your ceremony, and join you for some of the key elements. This keeps the service intimate and personal between the two of you.

So, if you haven’t considered where you’d like your celebrant to stand, get thinking! Do you have a preference? 🩷

✨ The Culverwells ✨

I’m reminiscing on weddings gone by, and wanted to share a review from a gorgeous couple:

“Alysha, where to begin! You made the process of getting married so easy, relaxed and fun! Damien and I couldn’t have asked for a more committed, involved and lovely celebrant. The compliments we received after the wedding about our celebrant was that they loved that you would move to the side during important moments, you were such a presence but also know exactly the right moments to be incognito and just how wonderful of a person you were.

We are forever grateful to have had you be apart of our day and would recommend you to anyone getting married!“

Thank you. 🥹🩷

Yeah the boys! 😎

Don’t feel like standing at the end of the aisle for too long? Want to make an entrance yourself?

Why not do an aisle walk with your favourite people too!?

Here, Gabs’ groomsmen did a walk down, followed by the man of the hour. It was fun, engaging and got everyone pumped and feeling ready for his bride to make her entrance. 🥰

Is this something you’d like to do? Perhaps you haven’t even considered it!

✨ Couple Review: Richard and Lauren ✨

“Alysha officiated our ceremony and was fantastic. She was always there to help along the way and provided helpful suggestions and recommendations on certain aspects of the ceremony.

We caught up once in person and had a couple of video calls in the lead up. Alysha has also offered to answer any questions and be there to help with some of the official / admin related things post wedding.

We would definitely recommend Alysha to others looking for a wedding celebrant with a good mix of fun and lightheartedness.”

It was an absolute pleasure being part of your day. 🥹🩷

A ‘modern’ celebrant, who still has a love of some old fashion poetry. 🖊️

To Be One With Each Other by George Eliot

What greater thing is there for two human souls, than to feel that they are joined together. To strengthen each other in all labor, to minister to each other in all sorrow, to share with each other in all gladness, and to be one with each other in the silent unspoken memories?

Sophie and Regan, two souls who were destined to meet. ✨

Behind every small business, is someone…

Just like any profession, there is SO MUCH more that goes on behind the scenes of being a celebrant. 🤓

Here are a few that relate to me as a celebrant, and you may too!

Others in the industry, what else would you add? 🤔

Wedding Open Days… they’re like speed dating.

You get a snap shot of all that’s available to help make your day extra special! They are a great way of sussing out amazing venues, seeing them set up in all their glory, and meeting vendors in-person and getting a feel for their style.

Planning your wedding often involves hours of scrolling and contemplating, so look out for open days & expos to meet your vendors and have all your questions answered!

Here I am talking with so many wonderful couples at the Autumn open day.

These two souls collided after a subtle setup by friends, and Jordy being warned ‘not to screw this up!’ 😅 Well, things worked out perfectly and they have created a life filled with so much love and fun! 🥰

Their ceremony was filled with some truly special moments: An aisle walk involving both families, a Welcome to Country with Walter McGuire, surprise witnesses, and some beautifully written readings by their best friend & Mum. 🥹

Things I love…

Dresses with pockets, a well made coffee, watching my son grow, having my hair brushed, my husband’s cooking, Johnny Cash, the scent of lemon myrtle, storms, driving in silence, a well organised to-do list, smelling books, and butterscotch pudding.

Things I don’t love- Refuelling my car, hair washing day, being late, tequila, and… telling couples I’m unavailable on their ceremony date! 👎🏻

I’ve had to inform so many couples lately that I’m already booked on their date. 😩 Many couples look to have their wedding during ‘wedding season’ (Oct-April) or pick specific dates for the way they may look or significance to them.

Once you’ve locked in your venue and have a date, begin your search for all key vendors, you don’t to miss out! 🔒

✨ Couple Review: Bec and Ethan ✨

“Alysha is the best celebrant we could’ve ever asked for! From the minute we had our first consultation with Alysha, we knew she would bring so much calm and serenity to our wedding day.

Alysha makes you feel like you’ve been friends for years and she made the ceremony feel so much calmer and relaxed (even when I was very emotional!)

We absolutely recommend Alysha to anyone getting married! You cannot find anyone better!

We can’t thank Alysha enough for everything she did for us!”

3 years ago today…

I enrolled in the Certificate 4 in Celebrancy. Honestly, I thought this would be a fun side-hustle as my maternity leave continued and I eased my way back into being a classroom teacher. I took the full 12 months to complete and applied for registration which took another 3 months to be approved..

Well, little did I know at the time of enrolling, that this course would set the foundation for a career I truly love and value. I never returned to the classroom and put my all into being a full-time celebrant.

3 years on, and I’m in this full-time, and not once have I looked back. With each couple I marry, my love for this role keeps growing. 🔥 Thank you to everyone who has trusted me with your special day. 🙏🏻

✨ This is what it’s all about. ✨

Here, beautiful Josie and Joe stand together, sharing a special moment with their son, as I tell a story of their love and journey together.

I love this shot from the amazing . It captures the essence of a wedding ceremony- two people, in love, making promises that will last a lifetime.

As your celebrant, I will remain modest; a person in the background, sharing your story and legalising your marriage in the presence of your favourite people. 🫶🏼

Hand fasting 🤝 🩷

Hand fasting is an old Celtic tradition, where, long before rings were exchanged and certificates were tied, couples literally “tied the knot.” 🪢 It is a beautiful and fun way to personalise your ceremony and add in something a little different.

Here, Josie and Toby are tying the knot before I declared them husband and wife. 🫶🏼

A big thanks to my cele-friend for showing me the ropes 😜 with this beautiful ceremony inclusion. 🪢

Amongst the apple orchards by the dragonfly pond, these two lovebirds finally said their “I-Do’s” 🍏

Once determined to never have her heart broken by Charlie Barnes, Ashleen was won over by Charlie’s charm. She wasn’t the only woman in the relationship, however; as she learned to love Charlie’s other woman, the Silvia. 🚙 Charlie adores Ashleen’s pure soul, her Zoomjes, and her endless list of unfinished projects. 🛠️

Cheers to you, Mr and Mrs Barnes, and here’s to plenty more nights dancing in the kitchen, like in the movies, that make you wanna vom.. 🫶🏼

Considering having your ceremony later in the day? 🌞

Depending on the time of the year, a later ceremony can be a great choice! 🧡 In Summer, a late afternoon/early evening ceremony means the weather is cooler, you don’t have to start getting ready so early, and you can still catch the golden hour for photos.

You can always put drinks on before the ceremony so guests can mingle before your ceremony kicks off! 🥂

Check out Jess and Sanjai watching the golden hour roll in at 🌞

Telling your story, your way.

I’ll ask you lots of questions before I start on your ceremony script. One is all about when you first met, and your first impressions of each other. Answering these questions are quite reflective as you go back to those early days and see how your relationship has blossomed since. 🌸

I’ll then take all your responses, and craft them into a story all about YOU. It’s a perfect introduction to your ceremony and a beautiful preface for all the legal parts & I-Do’s.

Here Gemma and Jaime relive the first moment they laid eyes on each other, as I tell their story and what they’ve achieved since the early days. 🥹

💣 Wedding day truth bomb: Something could go “wrong.”

… and that’s ok! I would be lying if I said all ceremonies went perfectly, without a glitch. I’ll expect the unexpected and cross that bridge if we ever have to. And if we do, let’s embrace it and have fun! 💃

Some of my (any my couples) favourite ceremony moments are ones where things have gone a little awry. I’m talking: young ring bearer dropping a ring, resulting in the guests participating in an all out scavenger hunt, a swooping magpie death staring all the guests, dip-kiss fails, signing table no-shows, MAJOR mispronunciation of words during shared vows, and the list goes on.

And let me tell you, amongst the beauty, emotion and joy that comes with your ceremony, these funny moments are ones you’ll relive and share a laugh over the most! 🙈

I’ll do everything in my power to avoid major mishaps or kerfuffles, but, a ceremony is a celebration of human emotion, so celebrate whatever emotions come with that. 🩷
