Effective Communication

Effective communication is the key to successfully navigating the kink world, whether in a partnership or solo.

Knowing how to clearly discuss consent, safety, your desires, and limits, how to end a scene or stop play, how to properly check in during and after scenes, and how to communicate effective aftercare and reflection are imperative.

Verbal first aid techniques will also be touched on.

This workshop will discuss different communication techniques and give strategies to help attendees learn by giving participants skills that can not only be used within the kink world but can be integrated into many areas of their lives.

Brace for impact - as we show you how to incorporate bare hands to floggers to feathers to paddles.

You will learn how to:
*properly warm-up
*find the sweet spots as well as avoid the dangerous ones
*how to provide decedent aftercare and
*how not to ( or to on request ) leave marks.
It's the perfect way to dip your toe in for the curious and new to kink. There is also lots of time for open q&a.

Setting the Scene

Do you enjoy kink but struggle knowing how to build the experience of turning your fantasies into reality?

Have you ever wanted to learn about building a scene from scratch and taking others experiences to another level?

Planning out everything you are going to do prior to and negotiating full consent is an important skill everyone should learn prior to playing. Having everything planned and properly discussed is an important role in harm minimisation. Scene setting doesn’t have to be boring, done correctly it can also be erotic foreplay.

This workshop focuses on ways to build scenes to ensure they are always really enjoyable, safe, juicy, and completely consensual for all involved.
It will cover -
Consent and scene negotiations
Pacing and flow
Tool selection
Recovery when something goes wrong
Planning and negotiating a scene with the class model
The negotiated class scene will then be demonstrated at the completion of the class following the scene design structure.
All questions are welcomed. All experience levels are welcome.

Never experienced anything kink before? Curious but too nervous to attend an event?
Lots of questions but you just don’t know where to start?
Tonight we open our doors to the curious and absolute beginners.
A super relaxed night (with geeky name tags ) where we introduce ourselves, who we are and what we do at Akademi, run through lots of foundation basics such as what is all this weird kink stuff about?

What exactly is B**M?
What is consent and how do I get it?
How do I establish strong boundaries when I don’t know what my boundaries are yet?
Why is the furniture so weird and what is this strange thing and how do I use it?

We will run some basic sh***ri and impact demonstrations and encourage everyone to have a go and discover if there’s anything that they might enjoy and want to turn into a future explorative journey. This is a really relaxed night of open conversation and an opportunity to ask lots of questions and meet our team and other newbies.
A great way to find out if kink may be for you and see what Akademi is about.

About the speakers:
Jordina (She/Her) is a passionate s*xuality and relationships educator \ with a keen interest in global health, disability rights, LGBTIQA+ inclusion, disadvantaged groups and specialises in the prevention of gross injustices regarding s*xuality, gender, violence, relationships, and health inequalities. Jordina works for the S*xuality Education Counselling Consultancy Agency (SECCA) running workshops to educate carers/parents and teachers about s*xuality and rights regarding people with disabilities. Jordina has taught s*x education to young people throughout WA and has also worked with young Hill tribe people in Thailand at risk of s*x slavery and child marriages with Borderless Friendship
Giselle (She/Her) is a PhD Candidate and researcher under the School of Arts and Humanities at Edith Cowan University. Giselle is currently involved in a multinational research project investigating the perceptions of early access to po*******hy and its effects on individuals and relationships. Giselle possesses a background in S*xology and currently teaches at Curtin University. Giselle works in association with several organisations, including s*xual education advocacy and alternative s*xuality groups both at home and abroad. She is particularly interested in reducing s*xual violence and promoting relationships and s*xual education and healing trauma through s*xuality.
Kai (He/They) is a s*xologist, youth worker, and LGBTIQA+ specialist located in Boorloo (Perth). He has provided s*xuality education to countless organisations around Australia and internationally. Kai is currently undertaking his Master's research dissertation entitled “Experiences of Australian Trans and Gender Diverse People Assigned Female at Birth Living with Eating Disorders”. They are best known for being aggressively q***r at work and in life.
Kate (She/Her) is a trainer for Diversity Focus delivering workshops on Diversity & Inclusion, and Family & Domestic Violence. Her expertise and interests include s*xual and reproductive health, STI's and their associated stigma, gender roles. A self-proclaimed s*x nerd, Kate recently graduated with a Master's in S*xology and is currently pursuing postgraduate Psychology studies. She loves tough conversations and believes therein lies the catalysts of change.

Let's find what makes you feel good, what you naturally possess and play that up and make it s*xy.

Once we know what they like, let's discover how they use this? This can be an everchanging adventure, some days it can be a playful love, others it can be rough and dirty. But what can we do to manage this?

Sh***ri live model sketching.

A night of models artistically knotted in ropes, charcoals, oil pastels and leads to capture the beautiful human form in a kinky state.

A great opportunity for creative nourishment, not to mention just a really fun night out or a great date night.
We are joined by phenomenal artist Tash who is there to offer her tips, hints and expertise. Zero experience or skill required. All drawing boards, art mediums and fun provided, you bring an open mind and some creativity.

The Bar is open from 6pm with food available, drawing starts at 7.30pm. Lots of time after for some rope play, drinks and hangs.

A beginners guide to Domination

So you want to be a Dom.

A 101 for the new or just curious.

Lots of discussion and education around what exactly is domination and submission. What type of dominant do you want to be? Consent. Safety. Aftercare. Power exchange. As well as some basic rope, flogging, and impact skills to take home and practice and build upon.

A perfect forum for open Q&A with Brian who is well known in the scene. A great stepping stone to our more specific workshops.

All bottoms/subs are also encouraged to attend as it’s important to be able to identify skill level and safety with people you play with. We highly encourage the education of subs.

Tickets for workshop $35 single $60 couple

Bar and Canteen open at 6pm. Please see the bar staff to have your ticket checked. The workshop starts promptly at 7.30 pm and goes till approximately 9.30 pm

Workshop space will be open after the workshop if you have friends or play partners you would like to invite down to practice your skills with while Jason is there to help and give tips. Due to COVID we have had to temporarily remove our equipment from the play space so please bring your own equipment if you intend to engage.
As always our bar is open at 6.00 pm -11.30 pm to the general public.

Dress Code -No streetwear, No business or workwear. Wear something you feel s*xy in but please keep in mind we are a licensed venue so ni***es and butts must be covered at all times. If in doubt wear minimum all Black outfit (Black jeans accepted).
