Opening Day 2017
What a spectacular day on Sunday for our opening day after a wet and wild week. Commodore Gavin Taylor welcomed life members, past commodores and members before handing over to the Club’s new Patron, Barry Court AM. Barry amused the guests with tales of the past, introduced the new Flag Officers before declaring the Season open.
There wasn’t much in the way of wind out on the river and what there was of it swirled around. By the time proceedings got underway there wasn’t much wind at all and the start was in slow motion. However, things did keep moving just enough and eventually the fleets all got up the top mark and around. Wisely our OOD shortened the course and it was the day buoy and straight to the finish to bring everyone home. A very pleasant if uneventful way to start the season.
