🗣️Real talk for a lil min …. SMALL BUSINESS is always tough … but it’s extra toughhhhh at the mo!

🤔 When we started out on this journey of wanting to ditch our day jobs ( which we still actually haven’t managed - we still do our ‘real’ jobs part time because we have to 🤑) and do our own thing in this small biz world … we were told ‘ there’s no greater self development course you can ever do than have your own business ‘ … and at the time this didn’t make a lot of sense to us … we were so blissfully ignorant .. and perhaps arrogant! I mean how hard can it be ?? 🤷🏼🤷🏼🤷🏼

⏰ jump 5 ( or so 🫣) years and there’s no confusion anymore!! It’s without shadow of a doubt one of the trickiest and most confronting undertakings of our lives!

👉🏻 juggling alllll the balls because … it’s ALL your problem

👉🏻the never ending, hidden work behind the scenes that you couldn’t possibly comprehend until you were in the thick of it

👉🏻 the many hidden expenses + costs meaning you often have to justify not paying yourselves - again!

👉🏻 finding people for your team … the right people! … and once you find them - keeping them!

👉🏻 trying to find the work life balance that prompted you to start this business in the first place - whilst somehow working around the clock and all weekend 🤔

👉🏻 trying to get it right whilst riding the unexpected ( hello world wide pandemic in your first year! 😷) waves of market fluctuations, trends, endless new tech to learn , having to look at spreadsheets ( oh maybe that’s just me! 😜) competitors popping up ( often complete copycats) on the daily, the cost of living crisis taking a huge toll on bookings, redirecting, rethinking, pivoting again …

👉🏻 the dogged determination you have to have to not give up… sometimes perhaps sheer stubbornness ? 🤷🏼 whilst facing the often innocent, flippant remarks from those around you who quite simply have NO idea what small biz is like… and just what you’re juggling 🤹🏻 ..

👉🏻 the questioning, the wondering, the learning, the thinkinggggggg … oh man

Enough of the musings… (although somewhat therapeutic to pour out🤭) …

Those in the game will be nodding along in exasperated solidarity… we know we aren’t alone!

This is what makes us so sad to see businesses around us closing up every single day as enough is enough 😞… we get it!

SO this post is to remind everyone to support the small businesses around you in any way you can. This doesn’t mean spending any $$ … just pay attention to the small biz around you who may very well be struggling right now - real people with families and bills … as well as all of the same dilemmas mentioned above. They will absolutely notice and appreciate your support guaranteed.

Also where you can - shop small and shop local! 🙏🏻

Since October, primary school students have been riding a ‘bike bus’, a weekly communal bike ride, stopping at each other’s houses to ‘pick up’ classmates on the way to school.
