🧚‍♀️Something Magical is Hatching...🧚‍♀️

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that when I go quiet, it means I’m deep in creation mode… and right now, something truly special is taking shape! 🐉💫

The Baby Dragons range is evolving, with a brand-new addition! Soon, a larger collection — The Dragonlings—will take flight, each with its own unique "personality", name, and an inspiring quote to guide their new companion. Think of them as wise, solution-loving creatures, ready to help young minds tackle everyday challenges, big or small; more about that later...

I’ve been busy designing and handcrafting each one with so much love, and I can’t wait to introduce them properly! But for now, I’ll leave you with this little sneak peak of The first Dragonling to "Successfully Hatch"🐣✨

🛡️ The first Dragonlings will hatch at the Guildford Medieval Fayre this May! And if all goes to plan, I’ll be bringing a magical Dragonstone Potion Experience too—where you can adopt a Dragonling of your own!

More details soon, but first—this weekend holds an extra-special event with a surprise I won’t spoil just yet! Stay tuned I will share this project with you soon. 🎉

And on a personal note… my little boy had his first day of kindy today 😭💙 So I spent the last week of the holidays soaking up every moment with my kids. Now my studio space is eerily quiet—no tiny hands helping with color selections, no 90 tea breaks a day… just me and a whole lot of emotions.

✨ Preparing for the Guildford Medieval Fayre ✨

Costumes are such a huge part of creating that magical, fairytale feel for events like this—and I’ll admit, I fell hard for some gorgeous handmade outfits that look like they stepped right out of a storybook. The catch? Once converted from USD to AUD and with shipping added, the combined cost of multiple outfits would push well over $500! While I truly believe the craftsmanship is worth every penny, our budget just doesn’t have room for that right now.

So, how do we make it work? Well… without much prior formal sewing education (a single term in high school at 14!), I’ve decided to take on the challenge of designing and making our outfits for the Fayre myself!

I do have some previous experience with costume making thanks to my younger sister, who has a knack for tossing me “urgent” creative challenges. Case in point: the 48-Hour Shark Costume Saga, where she needed a costume, stat—and I delivered… something. Swipe to witness the awkward attempt to model the progress of this creation...

🧵 It’s a bit of a leap, but I’ll be pulling together all my weird and wonderful creative skills to create (hopefully!) whimsical outfits that perfectly embody The Painted Lady and Made You Blush's personas. It’s going to be equal parts adventure and trial-and-error, but I’m some what excited to give it a go!

📖 Here’s the quickest scribbles of the designs I think my skillset can (somewhat) achieve...the final products will probably look very different to this. Fingers crossed it all comes together though.

✨ Hosting my daughter’s birthday party earlier this month was such an extra special experience! When she asked for a Potions Craft Party with all her friends, I couldn’t help but ask, “Are you sure? I can do other stuff too…”
Why? Well, Miss E is around Potions Craft ALL. THE. TIME. She’s been immersed in it for over three years—way before The Painted Lady even began! But her confidence and certainty always amaze me. She gave me the most puzzled look and said, “Yeah. I want my friends to have another chance to do Potions with you, they keep asking when can we do it again.”
Having such an amazing, authentic little cheerleader in my daughter is something I’ll forever be grateful for. Thanks to her, I got the chance to engage with curious, intelligent young minds who asked me a million questions (thank goodness for my trusty “field guide”!). Watching their imaginations ignite as they asked questions, shared stories, and explored the magical world I’ve created was truly special.
🌟 These creative, curious minds, eager to learn and participate in the story and world I’ve created, have only fueled my passion to bring more of my adventures to life (more publicly and more locally).
🔮 Over the past two weeks (well, months really, but that weekend put a rocket in my engines!), I’ve been deep into planning and research. As much as I’d love to share all my stories right now, I know how important it is to protect the work I’ve spent years creating. With some great advice, I’m taking steps to safeguard my unique ideas so I can share my magic with confidence and peace of mind.
💡 The exciting news? There’s still so much I CAN share! With key protections in place, I’m working on ways to bring this story to Perth in a way that stays true to my vision.
✨ Preparations for the Guildford Medieval Fayre in May are already underway! Since everything I do is handmade by myself, I’m pacing things carefully. I expect to share little “glimmers” of magic here and there over the next few months, and then kick it up a notch for the Fayre!

🌟 This weekend was pure magic! 🌟

We celebrated my daughter’s 8th birthday with a special Fantasy Themed Birthday Party, and it was absolutely enchanting!

✨ The day began with beautiful face painting by the incredibly talented Ree from .youblush . We had to whip up a quick ticketing system before she was completely surrounded by an adoring crowd eager for their fairy tale designs! Thank you again, Ree, you were amazing as always!

🧪 Of course, we couldn’t have a fantasy party without some Potion Crafting! The kids had a blast creating magical mixtures, sparking creativity and imagination. It was heartwarming to see how older and younger children explored their surroundings in their own thoughtful ways.

🧚‍♀️ I loved sharing my story with this curious group, telling them about the magical adventures I’ve been on to gather ingredients and learn about their origins. Their excitement was so infectious that I’ve already been asked, “Will the Doorways open for us?” (I’m working on it! 😉🤫)

🗺️ Then, we embarked on an Adventure Quest! Guests followed clues, traversed a tangled forest maze, and solved riddles to find hidden treasure. Watching their excitement and determination was incredible — 20 children tearing through space to find the next clue was like something straight out of National Geographic! 🤣

🎂 Let’s talk about the cake... an edible fairy garden chocolate mud cake! Miss E requested chocolate mud cake this year, and chocolate and I don’t always get along. But with the "Bruce Bogtrotter" recipe in hand, I gave it my all. The requests for seconds confirmed my success this time! Most importantly, my daughter’s smile said it all, she appreciated the love and effort no matter what.

📸 We were having so much fun that I completely forgot about my 2025 goal to take more photos... oops! 🤦‍♀️. But honestly, the memories are what matter most.

💖 A massive thank you to my friends who managed to snap a few photos and sent them to me; you’re amazing, and I’m so grateful! Here’s to more magical moments like this.

A PSA from Minnie this Christmas: Be Kind To Yourself!

The holiday season is magical but, it’s also hectic, overwhelming, and often comes with a lot of pressure, especially for the "Coordinators of magic" (Mum's and Dad's). That’s why I believe Christmas is one of the most important times of the year to prioritize self-care. Remember, "you can’t pour from an empty cup", and taking care of yourself doesn’t mean you’re failing or selfish, You diserve to enjoy the christmas season too.

Here are a few self-care ideas that may help you navigate the season with a little more peace:

1. Store-bought is fine!
Not everything has to be made from scratch. gravy granules, frozen pastries, or prepared meals - ALDI has a really great range of frozen sides, including roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese bake, etc. - (not sponsored, just personal experience) these can be lifesavers. Your time and energy are worth more than perfecting everything by yourself.

2.Set boundaries.
If you’re not up for attending every extended family gathering or party, it’s okay to politely decline. Spending the day in your own space, recharging, and doing what you enjoy is completely valid.

3.Simplify dinner.
You don’t have to prepare a big, elaborate feast unless you genuinely want to. A smaller, cozy meal or "Picky Dinner" as we call it in our home with loved ones - it's usually too hot to be in the kitchen all day, and my two have very specific food preferences.

4. Lower the pressure on gifts.
Consider thoughtful but simple options like gift cards, handmade coupons, or experience gifts that don’t involve wrapping paper and bows.

5.Carve out quiet moments.
Take 10 minutes to yourself with a cup of tea, listen to your favorite music or podcasts, or go for a short walk. Small moments of calm go a long way.

6.Stop doomscrolling.
Social media can be a comparison trap. Everyone’s highlight reel isn’t the full picture—focus on what makes YOU happy this season.

7.Ask for help.
Team up with friends or family to share the workload. Whether it’s wrapping gifts, decorating, or cooking, you don’t have to do it all alone.

🌿 Real Talk from a Small Business & a Mum 🌿

starting a business while being a mum is no walk in the park.

I’m completely new to the world of business ownership. It’s daunting, overwhelming, and full of steep learning curves. But I’ve built this business on a solid foundation of something I know I’m good at, providing high-quality service.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved solving problems, creating positive outcomes, and working with people to make their day better. That passion hasn’t changed; it’s what drives me to grow The Painted Lady into something special.

But let me tell you, the road has been anything but smooth.

Learning in the deep end: I’m navigating tech, building a website, managing multiple platforms, and designing every little detail from scratch (with perfectionism tagging along for the ride (I could write an extensive 12 part book series on that).

Starting from humble beginnings: I started with very little financially, (Business) knowledge-wise, all of it. Every step forward has been a big, learning moment.

Balancing standards with reality: I refuse to give people anything less than they deserve, but that means I’ve delayed projects because I want them to be just right.

And honestly, being in business can sometimes feel isolating. It’s taught me some hard lessons about resilience, about what it means to show up for myself, my family, and my business, even when it’s tough.

But here’s the thing, I believe in what The Painted Lady stands for; creativity, inclusivity, education, emotional wellbeing, and self-care. When I get overwhelmed, I remind myself to practice what I preach.

🌈 I stop.

🌈 I breathe.

🌈 I remind myself: “A river cuts through a mountain, not with power, but with persistence.”

Slow and steady, I’m building something I’m proud of.

✨ A Magical Friday with Year 2 ✨

Last Friday, I had the absolute pleasure of visiting a school to host a "picnic-style" Potions Craft Guided Meditation session for a delightful class of Year Two students. Together, we mixed the Potion of Calm, and I couldn’t have asked for a more polite and respectful group. Two incredible students even went above and beyond, helping me set up and pack away afterward, what absolute legends! 💛

For privacy, security, and time reasons, I didn’t take any photos of this session. The Painted Lady takes child safety very seriously, and we never share photos of children without written consent from parents or legal guardians.

I’ll admit, I wish I’d been able to capture the setup because it was truly beautiful. But what I wasn’t expecting, was to receive the most heartwarming letters of gratitude from the students! They didn’t just write - they drew their own representations of the setup and experience through their eyes!

To me, those drawings and letters are far more meaningful than any photo I could have taken. Their creativity and kindness blew me away.

🌟 This Past Weekend’s Potions Craft Adventure! 🌟

Over the weekend, I had the joy of hosting a Potions Craft Surprise Party for a group of 19 wonderfully creative guests, aged 7-8, with a few younger siblings joining in the magic. The birthday girl’s love of reading and boundless imagination inspired me to add some extra special touches to make this experience truly unforgettable.

As part of the celebration, we crafted the Dragonstone Potion, a personal favorite! To elevate the surprises, I selected these charming pendants and transformed them into illustrated characters to add to the mini profiles pulled from the story I’ve been writing for my daughter as a hobby over the years. For the youngest attendees, I brought along my handcrafted baby dragons, ensuring everyone had an age-appropriate bit of magic to take part in.

This party highlighted what I love most about Potions Craft: blending creativity, storytelling, and personal touches to make every event as unique as the guests who attend. Drawing from a story so close to my heart made this party extra special, and seeing the kids’ excitement and imagination brought everything to life. I loved how the group was interested and their natural sense of curiosity was ignited, the group asked me in depth questions about the intricacies of each Dragon species they discovered. Which just filled me with pure joy.

This weekend reminded me of how inspiration can come from anywhere, and with a little creativity, it can grow into something truly magical.

Thank you again to the birthday girl and her amazing family for inviting me to be part of this special day, it was an absolute delight!

When Miss 7 hands you a "brief" as specific as she would like a "Fairy, Witch kitchen," you don’t ask questions—you just get to work! And let me tell you, this little play kitchen makeover is coming along quite magically. Progress is definitely being made... trust me? I know it's a little hard to see... Of course, Minnie the Cat decided this masterpiece needed her approval 😅 Or maybe she was just trying to remind me that she’s the real star of the show? Either way, She’s completely upstaged the kitchen 🤣

It’s been a whirlwind of a week with another big party just about ready to go for the weekend—and then, next week is officially "Good News Week"! Stay tuned for all the fun brewing over here. 🧚‍♀️ Crafting a Fairy Tale 🧚‍♀️ Four weeks. One vision. A whole lot of determination. 🧚‍♀️✨ When I set out to create a realistic fairy costume—one that would leave kids convinced they'd met a real fairy until they were well into their 40s—I had no idea just how much of a challenge I’d given myself. With hidden harnesses to make the wings look like they were truly sprouting from my back, multiple costume components, and a few failed attempts along the way, this was my first-ever full adult-sized costume made entirely from scratch. I started by following tutorials, thinking they’d save me time. But when they just didn’t work for me, I kept pushing through—ignoring that little voice inside whispering, “Come on Ainsleigh, you know how to do this your own way.” With two weeks left (and battling a scorching heatwave), I finally listened. I ditched the tutorials and trusted myself. Using real dragonfly wing imagery, steel fencing wire, tissue paper, hot glue, and a whole bunch of other stuff, I created something truly magical—and waterproof! Then, with five days to go, I suddenly had to learn leatherworking, corsetry, and harness-making—all while pulling it together into one seamless costume. And now? It’s done. Will it hold up for tomorrow’s party? I sure hope so! 😆 But no matter what happens, I’m proud of what I’ve created, and thankful this process reminded me that we really do have to trust ourselves more and do things our own way sometimes. 🌟 Happy New Year from The Painted Lady! 🌟 As the sun sets on 2024 and we step into the new year, I’m filled with immense gratitude; not just for the magic, creativity, and connections we’ve shared, but also for the incredible support from many incredible people. So from the bottom of my heart, Thank you. The journey this year has been filled with joy, fun, laughter, and heartwarming moments of community and support. But it’s also been a year of uncertainty, tricky moments, and even some challenging mathematical formulas (math and I continue to have a complicated relationship). Tough lessons were learned, and while the everyday struggles didn’t disappear, they helped solidify my sense of self, purpose, and values. In the end, it’s been an enlightening journey, and for that, I am actually grateful. There are so many more moments that slipped by without a photo or video (taking more photos is a goal for 2025 😅). Looking ahead, The Painted Lady is ready to embrace new challenges and exciting opportunities. With focus on continued steady growth and quality service, to bring even more magic, mindfulness, and creativity into the world. For now, let’s take a moment to reflect and catch our breath, 2024 has certainly had its wild moments. I won’t make empty wishes for 2025 to be nothing but good luck, prosperity, and endless positivity (practical self-care is more my style). - Instead, what I wish for all of us is; that we face 2025 with kindness toward ourselves, meeting life’s highs and lows with resilience, empathy and as much grace as we can.
