Seating charts and are they really needed?

I often get asked as Operations Manager, "Do we need a seating chart?". My answer is always "YES!" ✅

A new trend that has been popping up is for guests to have no seating chart so they can 'sit where they like', 'we want a casual reception' or 'we don't want to spend money on one'. But if I am honest, this causes chaos and panic for your guests 😣

Imagine being a guest only knowing a handful of people at the wedding and as you enter the reception those people are already seated with no room for you. Where do you go?

Now picture your family being split over separate tables because other guests sat down first.

And the biggest problem with not having a seating chart.. your guests feel like they don't know what to do or where to go. This causes unnecessary stress and anxiety for people which I am often handling behind the scenes on the day to ensure everyone has a seat and are sitting with people they know.

So whether it is a purchased sign, diy sign, name cards or both, please think of your guests and HAVE A SEATING CHART! They'll thank you for it!

Ok, let's be real for a minute. You've spent months or sometimes years planning your wedding day, from the big decisions right down to each tiny detail, all meticulously chosen to make your day beautiful and unique.

One of my favourite moments from this ceremony! Two little legends delivering the rings like total pros 💍✨

Whether it’s your own kids, step-kids, nieces, nephews, or tiny cousins with big energy, including children in your ceremony adds a personal, heartwarming touch that guests (and you!) will remember forever.

I often get asked: “But what if they get nervous? Or distracted?” And my answer is always the same, it’s totally okay! Kids bring real, unscripted joy to a ceremony. Whether they nail their job or need a helping hand along the way, it adds charm, connection, and makes your day YOURS!

We can find a role that suits their age and comfort level, from walking with a sign, handing over the rings, holding a flower, or simply standing nearby feeling important. It’s a beautiful way to honour the little people who matter most to you.

Thinking about involving the kids in your life? I’ve got plenty of creative (and calm) ideas to make it special and stress-free. 💛

Let's talk Master of Ceremonies 🎤

An MC is the host of your wedding reception, responsible for guiding the flow of events and ensuring it runs smoothly. But do you have to have a professional MC? Well no, but read on to find out why you SHOULD have a professional MC 🤗

An MC:

🎤 Sets the mood/tone of your reception - whether that's a party vibes or relaxed dinner feels

🎤 Coordinates with the venue and other vendors to ensure everyones on the same page (that includes you the couple, venue coordinator, chef, DJ, photo, video, content creator and possibly more!)

🎤 Tells guests when it's time to sit down for formalities and announce your grand entrance

🎤 Hypes guests up for the dancefloor

So what's the difference between a professional MC and a guest MC?

🫶 A professional ensures all of your vendors are ready with their equipment BEFORE you start speeches

🫶 A professional knows how important it is to get dinner out on time and HOT!

🫶 A professional is actually watching the time ⌚

🫶 A professional knows how to pivot when things don't go according to plans 👍

🫶 A professional KNOWS that guests don't sit down as soon as you ask. Or sometimes even the second time..

🫶 A professional knows that guests need a 5 minute heads up to get a drink or go to the toilet

🫶 A professional means ALL of your guests get to sit back and relax 🙌

All these things and SO MUCH MORE is the difference between having a professional MC your reception and a guest that's just a good talker.

Here’s a throwback to my own wedding day with our witnesses, we chose 2 of our closest friends 🤍

In Australia, it's a legal requirement to have two witnesses present at your ceremony. They must be:
• Over 18 years old
• Able to speak and understand English
• Willing to sign the official documents

You can choose anyone—friends, family, even a stranger if you’re eloping! What matters is they’re there to witness your love and legally support your marriage journey.
