Last September, I unexpectedly reconnected with Tracy, a familiar face from years ago. We swapped stories and chatted for a few minutes. As we said our goodbyes, I passed her my business card.
Soon after, Tracy's brother Alan and his fiancée Sarina contacted me, asking if I would officiate their wedding. This request marked the start of a delightful journey towards their special day, with their ceremony and the following celebrations being a beautiful blend of their diverse cultures.
The ceremony was held in Darumbal Country, where Aunty Marg Aaskov extended a heartfelt welcome to guests who had travelled from near and far. Sarina’s Uncle Reg, who had journeyed from New Zealand, offered a moving tribute to her parents with heartfelt words and prayer.
Sarina’s Aunty Cathy further elevated the ceremony, leading the guests in a captivating acapella performance of "Fa’afetai I Le Atua" (Thanks to God). Her voice, joined by those around her, raised goosebumps and brought tears to many eyes. It was a powerful opening that underscored the themes of love, family, and cultural heritage woven throughout the day.
A simple exchange of contact information created lasting memories for Alan, Sarina, their guests, and me. As I left the celebration, I was confident in the strength and endurance of Alan and Sarina's love. To echo Sarina's own words, their love is destined to last "until they can’t remember!" Many thanks to the talented (and so very helpful) Carmen from Studio Thirtytwo who captured the memories Sarina shared with me.
