I am likely late to the party, but if you travel internationally, this looks like a great way to convert money from your currency to others $£€¥ so you can use your mbl to pay or take cash out at ATM’s without additional fees.

Yes, if 3 peeps diwnload & use, I get a kicker… but the chances of that are slim, so I am sharing coz it’s a good idea.

I’ve thought long & hard about this post, but I feel some things need to be said so that I can start fresh, post Covid, in this industry that I’ve loved for so long.

Events are a lot of work, months of thought, decision & action go into the details to bring a SUCCESSFUL event to life; anyone can throw a party, but only a few become legendary parties, thanks largely to experts, like me.

I’ve spent over quarter of a century refining my art, learning ways to do things faster, better & with more pizzazz, I’ve turned up onsite when my father & brother in law passed away, leaving my family when they needed me. I have been injured onsite & taken those costs on as my own, because I loved the job & have always been the consummate professional.

Moving forward:
I will not accept any work if the job is under paid.
I will not accept discounted rates for work done previously.
I will not accept, nor tolerate being treated with disrespect; same goes for my team.
I am more than capable of doing any event, without any assistance & unless paid fairly to do so, shall not offer uncontracted assistance.
All work must be paid at a mutually agreed, fair value, based on my quote, not your budget or wishes.
All encounters, social, email, phone or f2f or with those with external 3rd parties, will be professional, courteous & respectful.

Contracts will be terminated if any, or all, of these rules are not agreeable & adhered to.

The difference between VIC & NSW… is HUGE… 5 reasons vs like 8 reasons to leave home, 5km limit vs 10km, no shopping outside essential in Vic, but you can still go shopping in Bunnings, Officeworks & other retail in Sydney/NSW, masks everywhere in Vic, only in shops in NSW…
I want my event business to survive;
I want to see my wonderful Sydney CoF, that I’ve now not seen since 2019… simply telling people to get vaccinated is not the answer, NSW, in its entirety, (not just a few random LGAs), needs to try a proper & full lockdown… this half arsed version just isn’t working & it’s so unfair on all the people in Sydney/NSW who are trying to do the right thing.

As a sole trader, PCO and event manager, people in generally see me as a freelancer, not a business… even though, in normal times, I would employ 5-6 genuine freelance event managers, throughout a year.
Between March & December 2020 I lost 26 events, 3 of which were in the first week of lockdown; with the beginning of 2021 the market situation did not change and my normal big start to the year, was crickets. As of July 2021, it started to look like events were picking up, with 4 events booked between Sept to Nov 2021, then the latest outbreak and lockdown hit us… in the space of a week, I have had 2 of the 4 planned events cancel, one in NZ now unable to attend and manage onsite and the 4th, my largest event of the year, now seeking alt dates, with a possible view to cancelling.
I have had zero help in the form of a grant and since JobKeeper (extn) ceased, have had no help from GOVT at all. In fact, today – I hit rock bottom, with a letter from the ATO, advising me what my PAYG would be, based on the 2019-20 tax return… hilarious, being that I have run at a loss in the last financial year, so now I’m off to complete the 2020-2021 tax return to show them why I am unable to pay PAYG from zero money… while businesses who declare every member of their family as an employee, have had grants and JobKeeper galore…
To the GOVT, I say: “ for 10 years I have paid every bit of GST and PAYG due from my events business, but I have been left feeling let down and neglected when I needed your return help… it’s not okay to neglect us, we are your entertainment, your training, your once in a lifetime experiences & we are many… please help us”

Domestic travel not compensating for border closure, report finds
The Australian Tourism Export Council’s (AETC) ‘Pulse Check’ has found that domestic travel has replaced less than 20 per cent of the revenue received from international visitors.

The report found that with borders closed and export tourism businesses unable to access their international markets, 60 per cent are running at less than 50 per cent of their staff and service capacity with most only surviving with the support of the JobKeeper supplement.

ATEC managing director Peter Shelley commented on the findings, saying: “Australian tourism businesses have hung on with the support of JobKeeper but face annihilation once the program ends next month if the government fails to provide further support.

“Australia’s tourism industry has spent the past 12 months battling enormous setbacks, from bushfires to floods and the COVID crisis which has closed international borders and left tourism businesses with no customers.”

ATEC is calling on the federal government to provide further financial support to the tourism industry and specifically the export tourism businesses which are unable to operate at anywhere near their previous levels.

JRE Personal add: the events industry is the same - thanks to restrictions on numbers, catering styles ie no buffet allowed and travel etc - we are also still unable to proceed per normal, no amount of talk will make this happen, only GOVT help can get us through till they remove the restrictions that stop us from doing business as normal - it continues to amaze me that the Morrison GOVT is insisting on stopping JobKeeper in March, when the restrictions that the same GOVT imposes, is the very reason we are stuck in the position of needing help. It is time for the politicians to take responsibility for the restrictions they impose.
