You two, your two witnesses and I sign your Official Certificate of Marriage.
You get a commemorative copy to keep, and then I take the other two and register your marriage.
The souvenir certificate proves that the two people mentioned are married, but because there is nothing on it to connect the certificate (legally) to the person holding it, for a name change you also need the Official Certificate of Marriage.
I'll order that when I register the marriage to save you having to produce more ID to more people later on.

IF ANYONE KNOW ANY REASON WHY THESE TWO PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE MARRIED…..

Yeah, we don't say that crap any more. What we do, is ask you to sign a Statutory Declaration a few days before your ceremony to confirm that you are free and eligible to be married.

It's called the Declaration of No Legal Impediment. I know loads of stuff so follow me to find out more!

American movies have skewed perceptions about how you get married here, and it's way easier.

You don't have to go to the governement and apply for a Marriage License. In Australia we have the Notice of Intended Marriage! It's the first form you complete and lodge with your celebrant a minimum of one month prior to the ceremony.

If you need to fill it out yourself before you give it to a celebrant I've created a much better set of instructions than the ones on the back of the form. If you'd like a copy comment NOIM and I'll send it to you.
