VAN WALKER and his Big Band did not disappoint the full house of Sandy Point Music goers.
The mix of heartfelt original ballads from this Tasmanian musician ranged from folk, country to rock.
He mesmerised us with his distinctive gravelly voice and story telling.
With bonus songs performed from his new album Healing Descent the dance floor was active for most of the night, just not quite big enough!
The five piece band on the Van Band Wagon in Dan,Mick,Josh and Chelsea set the amazing tone for a great night of entertainment.

Thankyou to our community for supporting SPM. We will break over July and August, but back on September 6 with James Bennett!

Wow, wow what a way to wrap up the first half of the music year with Charlie Bedford opening and Corey Legge closing the night.
Charlie is a blues soul musician that has been playing since he was 12. He has travelled the world playing with various renowned artists and boy did it show. A skilled guitarist, a confident solo performer and a singer songwriter who kept us entertained. The 1st act finished with Gabby on stage, magnificently playing the cowbell. We danced and applauded.

Corey Legge who is touring with his “Moment in the Sun” tour was next level. The trio playing were Red on drums, Matt on bass and Corey singer and lead guitarist. Red was an energetic nutter (in a nice way) with complete control of his drum kit who kept us all guessing, including his fellow musicians, with what he was going to do next whilst twirling his drum sticks and throwing his all into the night.
It worked.
Corey, a seemingly effortless singer songwriter and brilliant lead was backed up by the talented Matt on bass.
The audience responded with the same energetic vibe on the dance floor, interacting with the band, clapping and cheering to the end.
It was a great night.

Ally Row and Jungle Jim Smith did not disappoint..as we thought.
AR accompanied by the magnificent Tobias warmed is up beautifully.
Then followed JJS with his stomping, infectious beats that had the dance floor filled all night.
One highlight was the dedicated song to Brett Van Horne, our sound specialist..we were all chanting his name!
Thanks to all for a great uplifting, fun, dance filled night.

Mama Kin Spenda played with perfectly executed passion last night, taking the audience on a heartfelt journey of their collective vulnerability and life experience.

Alternating roles at introducing their musical collaborations, the audience at the sold out venue, were touched deeply by accounts of their relationships, breakups, and how to heal one’s self. Transformation was audible in the thrilling duos musical expression.

Bringing their individual musical talents and skill, their synergy on stage was extraordinary.

The harmonies were a delight.

The theme of connection with self and others was eloquently explained and expressed musically using the examples of the world beneath the ground, in the desert, and the ocean.

The importance of social connection was highlighted and it was pleasing to hear the acknowledgment from the performers about how special SPM is.

Gender specific songs about aspects of femininity and masculinity had people reflecting on their own relationship with self and others, whilst enjoying the music.

There were so many highs through the emotionally charged show, and the interaction with the crowd was certainly one. At one point everyone in the room was up on their feet in “pub choir” type atmosphere.

Double up the on the music and dancing with Benny, Drew and Mapes followed by Ozone St.
Will from Ozone St opened the night with a brilliant solo act on the didgeridoo, then B,D&M hit the stage running with a mix of their original tracks and some covers to coax the crowd onto the dance floor. It worked. The trio doubled on the night and were joined by three other artists that added to the atmosphere. We all laughed when Drew, the guitarist had to run back to the green room to pick up his capo and did a dance for us on the way back.

Ozone Street followed the first act with their blend of vintage blues and surf inspired melodies. After their short break they revved up the tunes another notch, the drummer got lost in the moment and it was non stop dancing to the end and eucalyptus leaves were handed out to the crowd.

Phoebe Joy opened the show for Brooke Street and was ethereal, floating from one unique song to the next, making the crowd laugh as she evoked memories of her 16 year old self compared to her 20 year old self now. Phoebe was entertaining and self-deprecating as she rolled out her catalogue of songs, which we loved.

Brooke Street, an Australian Indie folk duo, married with a 6 month old baby, from the Sunshine Coast showed their dedication to their musical career, made evident from the first song. Their talent and affection for each other was apparent as it flowed through their song writing and performance.

Brooke Street duo, Jason and Hannah, revealed how they derived their band name! They used to regularly park their car in Brooke Street when they were thinking of a name for their band. The very talented singer songwriters with harmonious syrupy voices entertained the crowd to the end, finishing with a touching song about their baby, Willow.

A wonderful night of music and a heart warming start to the 8th year of Sandy Point Music.

When you arrive at the venue and there is plenty of room in front of the stage, you know there will be a lively dance band performing and so it came to be. Algorhythm didn’t miss a beat and before you knew it everyone was up dancing. All the cover songs we love were rolled out over three sets to swirls, twirls, kicking heels and dapper dance moves by the audience. It was a perfect end to another year of concerts hosted by Sandy Point Music.

A pair of couples entertained Sandy Point Music on Saturday November 10th with an evening of indie singer-songwriters.

First up was Maddy May with a beautiful mellow set who made the point of how in tune she felt with the vibes in the room.

She was joined by her partner Luke, who augmented Maddy’s delicate songs with some lovely guitar flourishes. It was only his third time on stage though any nerves were not apparent to the appreciative audience.

Maddy punctuated her songs with personal reflections and back stories which worked to provide an intimate atmosphere. ‘Habit’, ‘Wasting Time’ and ‘Butterflies’ were highlights but the entire set flowed into a cohesive whole.

Headliners were Saije, winners of the Folk Alliance Australia’s ‘Young Artist of the Year”. They were returning after many years away and obviously harboured fond memories of their time here.

Their setlist was heartfelt and varied, swinging between emotional ballads sung at a dying grandmother’s bedside and humorous banana-centred ditties in cod-French. Like Maddy, their graceful songs were informed by personal experience. To this the team of Jo and Shanteya added songs inspired by their travels around the globe.

Fresh from their extensive European and UK tour, we very much got the sense of wanderers returning home to the land they loved after stories of rainy days in the UK, France and Germany. For artists who aren’t Taylor Swift, life on the road is always a physical and financial struggle; there were tales of sleeping in the back of a van in a bed more like a coffin.

Soulful harmonies, dynamic guitar lines and percussive breakdowns allowed the audience to feel, as the band themselves put it, simultaneously transported and anchored. There was humour too. After criticism of the on-screen world, they pointed out the irony of asking us to access their music on Spotify and Facebook. As we should.

Another wonderful night out at Sandy Point Music.

Jordie Lane just released his album, Tropical Depression, on 16th August and has hit the road running right into Sandy Point. We were the second stop on his tour schedule that runs from 23rd August and ends in Madison USA on 6 October 2024.
Hitting No 1 on the ARIA charts this week might make the gruelling schedule worth it. Top that Keith Urban and Lee Kernaghan! https://www.jordielane.com

Annie Rose Maloney, singer songwriter started the night with her touching songs and showed us her full command over the guitar. Not usually a solo artist, we were fortunate to see her perform solo and learn more about her music.

The terrific night of music and entertainment continued as Jordie spills the stories that go with the life of being a musician. Like a punch up one night and an apology from the puncher upperer the next, just because Jordie wouldn’t play someone else music. The apologizer said he was emotionally touched by the music and Jordie nearly went to tears knowing that is why he makes music.

No violins required because underneath all the banter, laughs and mini strip show were sophisticated lyrics with sophisticated music including perfect harmonies with Clare Reynolds that rolled out to the packed audience for our absolute enjoyment. Over 90 minutes, Non-stop!

Jordie’s return with the band showed the talent of the musicians who seamlessly picked up the chords of songs they had never played before, the steel pedal was sweet, the drummer and the guitarist added to the success of the night.

Best wishes Jordie with the Album Tour. We loved ya!
