A handfasting ceremony is an ancient marriage ceremony where traditionally a length of cloth, cord or ribbon was made and sometimes inscribed with the Latin words meaning โ€œOur Devotion for an Eternityโ€. The cord or ribbons (usually of different colours, representing different meanings) were tied around a couples wrists, hence where we get the phrase โ€œto tie the knotโ€. The Handfasting is a ceremon

ial statement of a feeling which binds two people together. It is not a Marriage which binds, but the Love, respect and enjoyment which two people share. I am delighted to offer this unique service to anyone who would be interested in adapting a Handfasting into their ceremony. A Spooky-Sweet Handfasting for Halloween! ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’œ

Congratulations to Jodie and Martin! Choosing Halloween (or Beltane in the Southern Hemisphere) for your handfasting ceremony is a truly unique and symbolic choice. This auspicious day, associated with the veil between worlds, offers a powerful backdrop for your union.

Symbolism of a Halloween Handfasting:
๐Ÿ–ค Interconnectedness: Halloween celebrates the cycle of life and death, mirroring the eternal bond you're forming.
๐Ÿ’œ Spiritual Depth: The veil between worlds is said to be thinner on this day, providing a deeper connection to the spiritual realm.
๐Ÿ–ค Protection & Strength: The black and purple hues of your cord, along with the Black Obsidian crystal, offer a shield of protection and empowerment for your journey together.
๐Ÿ’œ Love & Unity: The Celtic knots and the Fenrir charm symbolize the enduring bonds of love and the strength needed to overcome any challenges.

Martin and Jo, your choice to handfast on Halloween is a testament to your unique love story and your desire to embrace the mystical and magical aspects of life. May your union be as enduring as the ancient traditions that inspired it.

Thirteen months ago today, my baby girl, Amber, and her love, Elijah were united in a beatufiul handfasting ceremony. ๐Ÿ’

This handfasting cord was a creation overflowing with love and meaning, a symbol of Amber and Lije's eternal bond. Amber and I collaborated on a stunning blend of lace, beading, ribbons, and braids โ€“ each element reflecting the richness of their love story.

All the charms in the cord represent various symbols of love and unity:
โค๏ธ Serch Bythol: This powerful symbol embodies their everlasting love, forever connected in body, mind, and spirit.
โค๏ธ Triskele & Triquetra: Representing various trinities, these ancient symbols signify the interconnectedness of their journey.
โค๏ธ Claddagh: A reminder of the love, loyalty, and friendship that form the foundation of their relationship.
โค๏ธ Celtic Mother/Child Charm: Representing the unbreakable bond between mother and daughter, this charm holds a special place in my heart.
โค๏ธ Bee, Frog & Rabbit: Symbolise wisdom, transformation, prosperity, new beginnings, and fertility.

Amber & Elijah, may your love continue to blossom with every passing day. May laughter fill your home, and may your friendship remain a constant source of strength. Watching your love grow has been an absolute joy. Here's to many more years of happiness together! Love, mum

This is probably the most important handfasting cord I will ever make...my baby girl is tying the knot today!!

Not that I'm biased, but I think this is the most beautiful cord I have ever made as well. Amber wanted lots of texture in her cord. Normally I would choose ribbon and braiding that are the same width, however, Amber chose a variety of widths, thicknesses and textures, including lace, beading, ribbons, cord and braids.

The charms Amber and Elijah chose were Serch Bythol which symbolises everlasting love between 2 people, joined forever in body, mind and spirit. The Triskele and Triquetra both ancient symbols representing various trinity connections. The Claddagh is a symbol of love, loyalty and friendship. The Celtic Mother/Child charm represents the unbreakable bond between mother and child. The bee is a symbol of wisdom, birth & rebirth, love, magic & romance. Frog's symbolise fertility, purity, transformation and prosperity, and lastly, the rabbit is a symbol of new beginnings, fertility and luck.

Amber and Elijah, may you both share a lifetime of love, laughter and friendship. Bound together in love and unity, now and forever.

Today I posted off my first handfasting cord for 2023!!

This gorgeous cord is on its way to Perth for a wedding on the 3rd Feb. This cord is a gift from the bride's step-mum. She wanted to keep the colours simple, but elegant and so chose navy, ivory and silver.

The colours, crystals and charms used in this stunning cord represent love, devotion, loyalty, compassion, kindness and protection.

I can't wait to see photos of the cord in action! Best wishes to Lee and Greg on their special day!

"Good Morning Terri! Just writing to let you know we received our cord yesterday, and oh my God we are SO happy with it. Wray is glad he left it up to me, and I am glad I left it up to you ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…
A huge thank you again xx"

This gorgeous cord is for Emily and Wray who are tying the knot in a couple of weeks. ๐Ÿ’

Emily and Wray chose green, pink and blue for their cords, but left it to me to choose the shades. This is usually difficult for this Libran! LOL!!

I went with my instincts and decided to use sage green, dusty blue, dark pink with a hint of pale pink. I've never actually used these colours before and I love how they compliment each other so perfectly. And they're also perfect for a spring wedding!
To compliment the cord colours, I used Jade, Rose Quartz and Sodalite crystal chips.

Emily's family heritage is Italian and Wray's Northern Irish, so they wanted charms which represented both their backgrounds as well as their own spiritual beliefs.

Yggdrasil is the Nordic Tree Of Life and represents life, death & rebirth. The Witches Knot (my personal favourite!) is a symbol of protection and representation of knotted magic practiced by witches. The Triple Moon charm symbolises the 3 phases of the Goddess as well as the 3 phases of the moon and represents intuition, creative energy and wisdom. The pentagram within symbolises protection. Cornicello (Italian Horn) symbolises luck, protection, fertility and virility.

Thank you so much for the amazing feedback Emily and Wray! Best wishes on your handfasting day! I can't wait to see the photos! ๐Ÿ’œ

"Good afternoon Terri
Your amazing cord arrived today and as you can see it is in brilliant condition and has made me cry already and really brightened my day. Thank you so much for this wonderful gift you have made and given my family. I am taking now to show the bride. Once again thank you for all the warmth you have obviously put into this and I am sure all your beautiful gifts.
The kindest regards
Tamara"

I absolutely love this beautiful feedback I received from Tamara back in May (I know, I'm a little late posting it :P ). The cord was a gift from Tamara to her daughter and now son-in-law who tied the knot in June this year in WA. This is why I make handfasting cords. They make the couples so happy, and brings something so special to their wedding day. ๐Ÿ’•

Another one of my favourite cords! I created this cord for Leah and James who tied the knot in August in an intimate beach ceremony before they have their second wedding surrounded by family in Fiji later this month.

Leah liked a couple of other cords I had made previously and wanted to incorporate similar colours/textures into her cord. The colours we ended up with was green, purple, blue and silver with black daisies. The charms she chose were 2 double infinity charms and a Celtic heart knot. Leah also had a Welsh Love Spoon that she had been gifted and wanted to add that onto the cord, so I left a crimp with an '0' ring on one of the cords so she was able to add it on.

Because Leah had mentioned the Welsh Love Spoon, I decided to include in the card a Welsh love poem, not realising until after Iโ€™d sent it, that Jamesโ€™ family are actually from Wales and will be meeting them in Fiji for their wedding!!

Thank you Leah for sharing the photos of your gorgeous beach wedding! Wishing you and James the very best, and I look forward to seeing more photos of your Fiji celebration. ๐Ÿ’œ

I created this handfasting cord for Julie and Stephen who were married at Wollongong Beach in 26th March last year.

I absolutely love the simplicity of this handfasting cord. My bride wanted traditional colours with a variety of textures including the hessian braiding, as well as marine green to match her bridesmaid dresses.

Thank you Karen of A Timeless Love Karen Brown Marriage Celebrant for sharing the gorgeous photo of Stephen and Julieโ€™s cord on their wedding day!

The beauty of the handfasting cord is that it becomes a very special keepsake. I love seeing all the different ways my coupleโ€™s have been keeping them. This personalised box is just gorgeous!

"Thank you for the beautiful cords. Itโ€™s absolutely amazing and love how much it represents our family. I would have to say I did shed a tear as finally something I wanted came together so beautifully."

It was such a pleasure creating this gorgeous cord for Siobhan and Luke. Siobhan and Luke tied the knot at Chapel Hill Retreat June last year. Siobhan has an Irish background, and Luke, Scottish, so a handfasting was the perfect way to tie the knotโ€ฆliterally!

Thank you to their amazing celebrant Karen from A Timeless Love Karen Brown Marriage Celebrant for sharing the photo of the cord on their wedding day. How gorgeous is that keepsake box?!

I created this handfasting cord for Shanna and Ryan who tied the knot in June this year in WA.

The cord was a gift from Shannaโ€™s mum, and she wanted dark blue, red, white and gold with a Celtic Tree of Life charm and a Fenrir Viking Wolf charm.

The colours, crystals and charms represent devotion, pure love, protection, commitment, strength, friendship and loyalty. The crystals I chose to compliment the cord colours were sodalite, garnet, howlite and yellow jade.

I am looking forward to seeing the wedding photos!!

I was incredibly honoured to create this cord for Amanda and Matthew who tied the knot back in April at Allview Escape, Blackheath, Blue Mountains. This was such a very special handfasting cord, the colours and charms held such significant meaning to the couple.

The red and blue strands within the cord represent Amanda and Matthew's families. They also wanted to honour their daughter Ellie and Amanda's sister Mel by including colours and charms significant to them. The purple strand represented Amanda's sister Mel, and the pink cord represented Amanda and Matt's daughter Ellie.

Angels are symbolic of love, hope, innocence, purity and strength, while Elephants are symbolic of strength, honour and wisdom. The crystals I chose to compliment the colours of the cord were Lapis Lazuli, Garnet, Amethyst and Rose Quartz.

The colours, crystals and charms used in this cord represent Love, Passion, Protection, Healing, Happiness and strength.

Thank you to Karen of A Timeless Love Karen Brown Marriage Celebrant for sharing the photo from Matt & Amanda's day.

Incorporating colours and charms for loved ones who are no longer with us is a beautiful way of including them on your special day, which is one of the reasons I love handfasting cords so much, they hold so much meaning within them.

Amanda and Matt, wishing you both a lifetime of love and happiness!

I absolutely love, love, love the colours in this cord! ๐Ÿ˜

I created this handfasting cord for Emily and Brad back in late February. This cord was a quick turn-around as the wedding was less than 3 weeks away from when Emily reached out to me. On top of that, the weekend I was meant to head out to buy the braiding/ribbon was when we had our major flooding event, so you can imagine how stressed I was that I'd be able to get the cord made, and have it arrive in Yeppoon in time for the wedding...but thankfully, it all worked out and arrived with a couple of days to spare. Phew!! ๐Ÿ˜

Emily asked me to match the cord to their wedding colours, which was this gorgeous tapestry, with a Tree of Life and Celestial charm. I added malachite, amethyst, garnet, lapis lazuli and rose quartz crystals to compliment the braiding within cord.

The colours, crystals and charms used in this cord represent Passion, Friendship, Peace, Love, Healing and Protection.

29/08/2022

I created this handfasting cord for Donna and Rohan who tied the knot back in December last year in south Australia. Donna really liked a cord I had made for a previous bride, but just wanted a couple of colours changed (gold for silver) with a hint of blue with Raven and Wolf charms which aligned with their Druid/Norse beliefs. I wasn't able to source the Fenrir wolf charm I usually use for my clients, but thankfully Donna and Rohan were really understanding and were happy with the substitute wolf charm.

The colours, crystals and charms used in this cord represent Love, Passion, Health, Protection, Prosperity and strength. Odin`s Ravens are a symbol of mind, thought and wisdom, whilst Fenrir was the mightiest of all wolves. He is a symbol of patience, determination, victory and might. The crystals in the cord are Black Obsidian, Garnet and Tanzanite.

I love the rich colours in this cord and the deep symbolism of protection, love and strength that is woven throughout.

I was so honoured to make this handfasting cord. Kelsey and Brandon tied the knot on the 1st October. Kelsey's aunt provided me with a photo of her niece and nephew at a previous family event because Kelsey wanted the cord colours to match the tartan her brother was wearing, and the red to match that of her dress (rather than the orangey red in the tartan).

Given Kelsey's family Scottish/Celtic heritage, she chose a Triquetra charm, which is an ancient Celtic symbol representing many trinity/three-fold connections, and a Claddagh, which symbolises love, loyalty, friendship, fidelity & romance.

As I was matching the cord colours to a very specific tartan, I thought I'd be do a bit of research to find the name of the tartan so that I could include it in the info card for Kelsey and Brandon...do you know how many tartans there are? SO many!! Part way through the M's, I found it! I thought I was so clever...then I noticed Kelsey's aunt's name on the order form...and it was the same as the tartan! So on the one hand, I felt vindicated that I had found the right tartan, amongst hundreds, but on the other...a dumb-arse for not looking at the name on the order in the first place. ๐Ÿคฃ

The colours in this cord have been matched to the MacLellan Ancient Tartan. `MacLellan` is Scottish Gaelic in origin. There were many MacLellans in Galloway (South Western Scotland). There is a village in Perthshire named St Fillans, and the MacLellan`s are linked by tradition to territories there also.

Thank you so much to Kem and Kelsey (and Brandon) for entrusting me with your special cord, and allowing me to be a part of your day. I hope Kelsey and Brandon's wedding day went off without a hitch, and I can't wait to see the photos.

I love getting feedback like this! This cord was a bit tricky because I had to match the teal up with a photo of a colour, which doesn't always come across very well in pictures...but I got there in the end and managed to find a braid the exact colour my bride was after. I love it when everything comes together!

Itโ€™s not often Iโ€™m asked to make a cord with just one colour, but I do love the simple beauty of this cord. Laura and John wanted emerald green as well as Blackwatch tartan in their cord with Celtic charms for the April wedding.

I wasn't able to source the tartan in a narrower size, so rather than weave it through the cord and have it all bunched up, I used it to wind the ends of the cords. I also managed to find a gorgeous green braid which had some blue running through it which complimented the tartan and tied it all together perfectly.

Blackwatch Tartan is actually named after The Black Watch, an infantry unit in Scotland who watched over the Highlands. The dark colours of their tartan are said to be where the name Black Watch originated.

For the crystals I chose malachite, which represents power, protection, love and peace, and lapis lazuli which symbolises love, healing, joy and fidelity.

How beautiful are these photos of Kylie and Jonathon's handfasting ceremony?! This is the first (and only so far) cord I've made that didn't include braiding or charms and crystals. Kylie envisioned a cord that was long and flowy with lace, organza and ribbons trailing at the end....very romantic!!

I created this cord earlier this year for Kelly and Dalton who were married in April in South Carolina in the US.

Both Kelly and Dalton wanted Norse and Celtic symbols so they chose Tree of Life (which is both Celtic and Nordic (Yggdrasil)), and is a symbol of immortality and the healing of the soul, Fenrir Wolf who is a symbol of patience, determination, victory & might, Celtic knot which represents cycles of life, eternity and unity and the Triskele which is an ancient Irish symbol representing many trinity connections. I chose malachite, black obsidian, lapis lazuli and amethyst crystals to correspond with the cord colours.

This cord, its charms, colours and crystals represents love, passion, health, protection, prosperity and strength.
