Our leader and our visionary, Sim has always been so creative and passionate about her work. She puts her all into every project and drives us (her team) to create the best—whether it be making dried floral figurines, tiling plinths, or arranging thousands of flowers in one go 🤭🌷 Maybe we just have flower anxiety, but she knows what she’s doing—unless you ask her to open a peony or bend an orchid 😭🥀

The Secret Life of Tulips: Blooming with Awesomeness! 🌷

Did you know that tulips were once worth more than gold? Yes, you heard it right!
Back in the 17th century, a period known as "Tulip Mania," these colorful beauties were the hottest currency around. People were going crazy for tulips, trading their houses and lands for a single tulip bulb. Talk about flower power!

But here's the funny part: some tulips would get a virus called "breaking" which turned their petals into beautiful, psychedelic patterns. Imagine going crazy over a sick plant! Tulips have truly had a fascinating and humorous history.

So, next time you gaze at a tulip garden or gift someone a vibrant bouquet, remember the wild history behind this seemingly innocent flower. From being worth more than gold to being infected by a virus that made them look fabulous, tulips have truly taken a captivating and humorous journey throughout history.

A female by herself on the streets can be a very dangerous place to be.
If you have ever wondered why some homeless people sleep on the steps of all-night shops, under bright lights, it’s not because they are trying to annoy anyone… it’s mostly because they know with people going in & out of the shop all night and being in a brightly lit area is their best chance of being safe and if someone does try something then at least there is a chance that someone will see something.

I slept at Central Train Station at night, down the end of the platform. It’s lit up, it has cameras and the staff walk up and down there all night. I figured that was my safest. Mind you, I only had blankets to lay on, so it does get a little hard to lay in one spot too long, especially when you start getting older!

There are many homeless services in Sydney & many services that dedicate their time to helping and supporting women.
I found one in particular that really does stand out in my opinion. One that actually does do what they claim to do and follows through with their efforts. This place is called “Lou’s Place”.

I was getting assistance from them in finally getting housing to get off the street & I was fortunate enough to be told about a place of work that was willing to offer employment to people less fortunate than the general population and offer them a chance to help them get back on their feet again.

I was very eager to seek employment again & was struggling to find somewhere willing and understanding of my situation of being homeless. I was offered a job with the understanding that I would need a little time to adjust from the street life, back into the fellow working citizen that I once was. Simla Sooboodoo, Founder of SLAK Flowers, along with her staff have shown me the same non-judgemental and considerate attitude that the staff at Lou’s Place have. The least I can do is take this opportunity I have been given by people who are worth showing that they are not wasting their time & efforts on showing kindness & helping someone who would have been otherwise overlooked.
