Did you know a Power of Attorney is a legal and valuable document that allows an authorised person to make legal and financial decisions on your behalf including buying and selling property?

There are some important considerations when creating your Power of Attorney.

👉🏼 Do you want an Administrative Power of Attorney or an Enduring Power of Attorney?

👉🏼 Who do you want to be your authorised person?

👉🏼 Do you know how to cancel and update your Power of Attorney?

In my work as an End of Life Doula, I am passionate about supporting people to have their legal documentation in place should it be needed.

It may feel grim, but planning for death and ageing is a loving and important act to assist your family and friends when you need help.

Last Friday T&P said I DO by the Kirribilli foreshore with the harbour sparkling in the background, sweet Pretzel (4 month old Cavoodle 🥰) in attendance and their family cheering them as they were pronounced as the newest newlyweds!!

Congratulations! May your married life be full of bliss! 🥂💒

Did you know creating an Advance Care Directive is an important document that helps medical staff, family and friends make health care decisions based on your values and preferences on your behalf in the instance where you are unable to?

As an End of Life Doula, I guide people through the process of preparing their Advance Care Directive.

Your celebrant *must* drop the monitum bomb (that’s the nitty gritty legal definition of marriage), and you lovebirds – your job is to speak your legal vows (without sobbing, jokes), and any other promises your partner will hold over your head for the rest of your life 😉

THE MONITUM:

“My name is (celebrant name) and I am duly authorised by law to solemnise marriage according to law. Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter. Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of two people, to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.”

LEGAL VOWS:

“I call upon everyone here present to witness that I, (full legal name), take you, (full legal name) to be my lawful wedded wife/husband/spouse/partner in marriage.”

* You can write your own personalised vows (and I’m happy to help guide you 💁🏻‍♀️)

And just like that, you are now married! 💒

Do you know, there are 3 legal things that must occur when someone dies:

🌼To move a body, you must have an MCCD (Medical Certificate, Cause of Death).

This is usually issued by the treating Doctor at the place of death.

In the case of a death occurring at home or outside a hospital, nursing home, hospice, a VOD (Verification of Death) will be issued.

This is usually issued by a nurse or ambulance officer.

🌸 The body must be disposed of in a legally approved manner.

In NSW this is currently burial, cremation or aquamation.

🌼 The death must be registered with Births, Deaths and Marriages.

A Celebrant and MC are the same thing, right? Um no. Put simply the Celebrant coordinates all aspects of the ceremony and the MC manages the reception timeline and logistics.

The celebrant is responsible for legally marrying you AND helps to create the vibe you are wanting to capture for your day. While it is a serious commitment you are making to your person, we can still have some fun!

On the other hand, a Master of Ceremonies (MC) keeps your reception running on time and smoothly. They will make announcements such as entering as a married couple, introducing the wedding party, cake cutting, speeches, meals and when the dancing and partying gets started!

They also liaise with your vendors throughout the evening! Usually, you would meet with them to go over the timeline for your reception and they will create a run sheet/timeline so you can get to the fun stuff!

HOLIDAYS…

It’s bittersweet when it’s over…

I had to say goodbye to my friend (I cried at the airport 😢) but I also said hello to my beautiful husband and my two fur babies (❤️🐾)

We had the most splendiferious time, lots of chats, pushing our bodies to the extreme, we laughed, we cried, we learned new things about each other (after 30+ years of friendship), we celebrated… but most of all, we did it together… what a dream come true. Thank you, my beautiful and precious friend, Joy. You are the best, ❤️ you

An end of life doula is a non medical, non clinical role providing support, guidance, assistance and education to someone with a life limiting diagnosis or who may be at the end of their life.

End of Life Doula’s also support family and friends with the caring responsibilities that come with looking after a person at the end of their life.

The roles of an End of Life Doula are many and varied. Some of these roles may include advocacy, death preparedness, improving death literacy, vigiling, grief and bereavement or providing information and resources.

REBRAND announcement! 📣

You may have noticed some changes over the last couple of weeks... After many months, I am excited to unveil my new branding. New fonts, colours and logos.

This became timely as I venture further into the death space working as a Funeral Arranger and Celebrant.

More recently I have been supporting my local community to improve their death literacy and death preparedness in my role as an End of Life Doula.

I will continue as a Wedding Celebrant and plan to marry lots of lovely couples in 2025 and beyond!

Thank you to for working with me on this project.

I hope you love it as much as I do!

I’d love to know your thoughts... tell me below! 👇

On Friday I supported a family to farewell their beloved Husband and Dad.

D would often travel overseas during his early working life and upon his return he would always bring his daughters a cultural doll from wherever he had been.

One of his daughters placed her beautiful Japanese doll on his coffin in memory of this time in their lives.

I learned D was a humble, quiet family man, forming lifelong friendships who appreciated a good red wine often hosting wine tasting nights with friends.

Family and Friends shared their memories openly and generously as we remembered a much loved man.

D you will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by everyone who loved you. As we raise a glass to you, thank you for the memories and laughter, here’s to you, cheers! 🍷

Together 14 years and last Friday, Brad and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary at a cute little humpy in the Southern Highland with our two doggo’s in tow!

We have learned to navigate the tough times (not always with grace but definitely with humour), been one another’s cheerleader when needed and we’ve been on some epic road trips together!

Thank you for choosing me as your “happily ever after”… because I wouldn’t want to do this life adventure without you (and our sweet Molly and Georgie) by my side 💕

How do you celebrate your wedding anniversary?

Tell me below 👇 (I need ideas for next year 😉)

Last week we farewelled J much too soon.

The family chose to light candles at the start of the service to symbolise J’s next life transition and continuing journey back to God.

It was a beautiful moment allowing healing to begin as J’s family reconcile her physical life has ended and a different relationship with her begins.

Rituals are a powerful way to say goodbye in a meaningful way.

Tell me below, what rituals would you want included in your funeral or memorial 👇

Last week I attended a lunch & learn with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation to understand more about their work with remote Indigenous communities.

They have a community led focus, offering opportunities to children to write and illustrate books in their own language through their Create program.

This year the Indigenous Literacy Foundation were recognised for their work in children’s literacy receiving the Astrid Lindgren Memorial award.

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation are one of charity partners. We donate 5% of our profit to one of our charity partners.
