Thank you L and family for your kind words.

It was lovely working with you and your family to create a healing, meaningful and heartfelt funeral for your dear mum.

It was lovely hearing about her musical and creative talents (which have been passed down family lines!) and her love of dogs.

Alzheimers can be a cruel disease as we watch the people we love change and fade away from the person they once were.

Thank you for sharing with me that the funeral ceremony was a way to counteract some of the painful memories to move forward in the absence of regret or guilt and overwhelming grief.

Let’s talk about pall bearing.

When meeting with families the question of pall bearing often comes up.

Often families want to follow their person’s final journey every step of the way.

You may choose to have the coffin place and pall bear out to the hearse.

As was the case for B’s funeral service last month. His family chose to leave whilst the coffin was in place, while his wife wanted to assist with sending him on his final journey.

There are many options and there is no right or wrong way. It is what feels right for you.

Pall bearing can be a beautiful way to say goodbye whether you are a witness to or part of this final act for your person.

Recently I returned the cremains of a much loved son and husband to his family.

Over a cuppa we sat and chatted more about him, his legacy and tragic death.

As I was leaving, I was gifted with these beautiful flowers. It was completely unexpected and appreciated.

Our families invite us into their homes at a time of sorrow, vulnerability and despair.

I am deeply grateful to each of the families I work with who trust me with the care of the person they miss and love deeply.

A huge thank you to all of the families who trusted me with the care of their loved one, inviting me into their lives at such a vulnerable, raw and emotional time.

There’s been a steady shift this year into the death and dying space. It is one I don’t take for granted and am grateful for your ongoing trust.

Thank you to everyone who came along to my Death Curious Conversations to chat all things death and dying while busting some myths along the way! Death Curious Conversations will be back in 2025 so watch this space!

Your celebrant *must* drop the monitum bomb (that’s the nitty gritty legal definition of marriage), and you lovebirds – your job is to speak your legal vows (without sobbing, jokes), and any other promises your partner will hold over your head for the rest of your life 😉

THE MONITUM:

“My name is (celebrant name) and I am duly authorised by law to solemnise marriage according to law. Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter. Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of two people, to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.”

LEGAL VOWS:

“I call upon everyone here present to witness that I, (full legal name), take you, (full legal name) to be my lawful wedded wife/husband/spouse/partner in marriage.”
