In 2013, after working in network television for most of our careers, we decided to make a change and do something we loved. In-between music video shoots, television shows and working on network news, we had been filming our friends and families weddings when we could. Apart from having a blast, we loved those days and that all came through in our wedding videos. We captured real emotions and real moments and we didn’t ask anyone to pose awkwardly or fake a laugh. Within a year, we found ourselves being asked to travel to beautiful weddings in destinations around the world and filming not just for our families and friends, but now for a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend. That gave us the confidence to finally quit our jobs and film weddings full time. We’ve now been filming weddings for 5 years and we’ve been lucky enough to win awards for what we do, have our calendars book out 1-2 years in advance and we’re able to wake up every day loving what we do. We’re really grateful for everyone’s support and it’s now allowed to us to do something that we’ve always wanted to do, which is give back. Every wedding we now film, helps contribute to a cataract eye surgery for a child, in a number of countries with the organisation ‘Sight Savers’. We got to see the impact of a cataract surgery while on a shoot in China in our past lives. There, we met a child whose vision was slowly clouding from cataracts. Apart from cataracts being hugely scary, we were told that these children would eventually go blind, have no independence, place an incredible strain on their families and are really robbed of a normal childhood and life.
You would think that this condition is for life, and that there’s little we can do about it. But there’s this amazing thing about cataracts that we personally didn’t know about. The clouding of the eye can be totally stopped. Not only that, it can be completely cured with a surgery that takes only about 20 minutes and amazingly, vision can start to return within a few hours. After having the bandages taken off, we got to see this first hand. You see their eyes just darting around the room, taking everything in. They look up and see Mum and Dads faces again for the first time in years and start crying with the biggest smiles on their faces. They walk outside and see what we often take for granted. The wind rustling the leaves on a tree, the sun painting the sky as it sets and their families faces all around them, their support now so much more real. But the biggest thing they get from the surgery is hope. And everyone deserves that. If you want to join us, get in touch at [email protected]. We would love to film and be apart of your wedding.
