Hanging design from the heart ❤️ for .thinking Advanced Design Directions online course - inspiration: a dear friend gave me the Palm inflorescence from her garden - my instant thought was that it was a human heart 🫀 then I thought of all the pain in our great land for our people who have lived here since Yura Muda and all of our friends across the globe in war zones which have become their homes. Tweeking the ‘glass and grass’ design - in .thinking workshop - moving the weaving from the centre and including flowing liriope is more in line with the theme also replacing the succulents with dracaena marginata which is more ‘grass like’ - great learnings :) .thinking

This is my design for the theme Theme: Glass & Grass - did you know Bamboo is part of the grass fam! The woven rings - created with our indegenious weaving technique are made from Summer and Winter grass (weeds) from the garden as the core of the weave - Phormium tenax - NZ Flax for the outer part of the weave - Bamboo from our friends garden - NZ flax used to fix weaving to the bamboo. Oh my goodness - I can’t tell you how excited I was when we arrived today for an installation when we were dazzled with the amazing garden of plants we installed some months ago - the plants have literally burst with brilliance ! The kangaroo paw is in stunning flower, the cordyline has big noted itself with beautiful stroppy leaf growth and the Australian grass trees have ascended with their beautiful spikes of flowers - they are amazing!!!!

It is such a special privilege to be able to prepare florals for funerals especially when you know the person who has lived on this earth and made their imprint on our hearts. To be able to personalise the flowers with knowledge of them. Noel loved the bush and our great land travelling near and far, his daughter wanted to include white flowers - when I suggested wild flowers I said let’s see what maybe available at this time. Jen wanted white roses and when I asked if Noel had a special flower she said not really but he used to buy his beloved wife who passed 8 mths ago lilies. The combination of white roses, lilies, Banksia hookerianas, white king protea and others with Geraldton was and thryptomene worked beautifully. The wax complimented the earth light orange from the banksias.
cheers Noel, I had the pleasure of spending time with Noel on an Alpha retreat - we climbed a mountain …. Literally! And Noel became a Tarzan in my eyes - he led the way for the group to follow up the mountain, through the rocks and bush as he cleared the path of a ‘precarious’ branch which could have hurt someone. Love to you dear Noel ###x
