Do brides have to wear white?
Not at all.
You can wear any colour you love, like this gorgeous bride did. What a glorious couple.
So, what’s behind the tradition of the white wedding dress anyway?
Because it hasn’t always been the fashion for wedding dresses.
Apart from Ann of Brittany, who may have worn a white wedding gown in 1499, before the 19th century most brides wore a dress in their favourite colour.
Then Queen Victoria happened.
Queen Victoria wore a white dress for her wedding at the age of 20 to her beloved Prince Albert in 1840.
The trend caught on and has been an accepted tradition ever since.
But if your dream dress for your wedding day might not be white, but your favourite colour? Or a wonderful pattern even?
Just go for it! ❤️

I am a lover of music, books, writing, children, dogs, cats, (all animals - well, not cockroaches, but I won’t let Andrew kill a Huntsman, it has to be taken outside) champagne, flowers, people - no matter their walk of life or where they’re from. Everyone merits courtesy and respect; being listened to, and heard. ❤️

💍 Wedding Trivia 💍 The Origin of the Best Man:

It all started because of “bride by capture!” Amongst the Germanic Goths of Northern Europe, if there wasn’t an available bride within his community, the groom would enlist the help of his best friend to go and capture one from a neighbouring village!

This became a much nicer custom later, when the Best Man and the Groomsmen would go to es**rt the bride/bridal party to the ceremony, so that they arrived there safely.

💍Wedding Trivia💍 - Before we had coins, gold rings were circulated as coinage.
By giving a gold ring to his bride, a man demonstrated that he trusted her with his property.
Under Roman law, the ring was a sign of security, protecting the interests of the bride.

In Elizabethan times, three rings were used during the engagement: one for the bride, one for the groom, and one for a witness to the marriage. During the wedding ceremony the bride would be given all three!

Roman Wedding Rings were carved with two clasped hands. The very early ones had a carved key, “through which the bride would be able to open the husband’s heart.”

Jewelled rings came next, diamonds get some mention from about the fourth century AD, and frequently from the 15th century.

All came to believe that the wedding band symbolised enduring love and commitment; the circular shape symbolised eternity.

The Origin of the Wedding Kiss: 🤍💋 Dating back to Roman times, the kiss represented a legal bond that sealed all contracts.
At that time, a kiss was required for the engagement to be valid!! It became a symbol of the newlyweds’ faith and love, and also grew out of the feudal practice of kissing the lord’s ring.

Basically, way back when, a marriage wasn’t valid without the kiss

Why do we call it a ring finger? 💍 The ancient Egyptians believed that there was a special vein, that ran from the third finger on the left hand directly to the heart. They called it “vena amoris” - the vein of love. 🤍🤍🤍
