🥤 The mighty milkshake we all know and love today had a bit of a cheeky evolution
Here’s the scoop:
🕰️ 1880s: The term milkshake first appeared, but... it was not the sweet, frothy treat we sip through a straw today. Back then, a "milkshake" was actually an alcoholic whiskey drink mixed with eggs and milk (more like a boozy eggnog!).
🥛 Early 1900s: As soda fountains became popular in American drugstores, the milkshake got a glow-up. People started asking for ice cream in their malted milk drinks, and just like that, the classic sweet milkshake was born.
🥄 1920s–1950s: Milkshakes took off like a rocket. Thanks to electric blenders and jukebox joints, they became a diner staple. Thick, creamy, and served in a tall glass with whipped cream, cherries and a stripey straw.
🎉 Now: They’ve gone global. From old-school vanilla to over-the-top freakshakes, there’s a version for every taste bud.
TL;DR:
Started as a grown-up drink, got hijacked by ice cream, became a soda fountain star, and now? It’s the ultimate comfort treat we serve with pride at Tropical Snocones 😍
