Marriage Celebrant - Katie McGuren

Marriage Celebrant - Katie McGuren I am a Commonwealth-Registered Marriage Celebrant working in Sydney, NSW. I am also registered with the Australian Federation of Civil Celebrants.
(20)

A Commonwealth-registered Marriage Celebrant is appointed by the Australian Government's Attorney-General's Department and is authorised to solemnise marriages anywhere in Australia in accordance with the Marriage Act 1961. It is important to note that Marriage Celebrants are required to undertake On-going Professional Development each year, ensuring that they remain highly trained and qualified.

In addition, I adhere to very strict laws and codes of practice, specifically the Marriage Act 1961, the Marriage Regulations 1963 and the Celebrants Code of Practice which govern all Civil Marriage Celebrants. In today’s society, there is a growing need for alternatives to marriage governed by particular denominations. Civil Marriage Celebrants provide you with this professional option and can create a civil ceremony that is perfect for each individual couple. Perhaps most importantly, a Civil Marriage Celebrant gives you the ability to create, design and customise the ceremony to be sure it caters for you as a couple. You can have the ceremony of your dreams because you are so heavily involved in the creative process. I can provide you with ideas and resources based on your desires for the day. Additionally, a Civil Marriage Celebrant will accommodate your choice of location for the marriage ceremony. As your Civil Marriage Celebrant, I am able to create a range of beautiful wedding ceremonies from formal, informal and even themed ceremonies. If you would like to include some religious content such as the reading of a prayer by a family member or a ritual of some sort, I can also accommodate that wish. Finally, as your Civil Marriage Celebrant, I will advise you on and handle all the legal requirements and documentation, whilst protecting your privacy in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1998.

Today one of the gorgeous Arndell students arrived with pencil cases, lots of coloured pencils and crayons and some art supplies for the kids at Kiwalaa Primary. I have chatted to the kids about my projects in Tanzania and this lovely girl went home and searched the house for supplies!! What a legend!!

A picture of some pencil cases might seem like an odd thing to post, but to me this is the beginning of something incredibly important! I have bought some myself, but these pencil cases are the first donation from someone else in my mission to give every student at Kiwalaa Primary school in Tanzania their very own school supplies!! I went out for dinner with some friends on Friday and the gorgeous Mr M, who has already sponsored several of the students, arrived with these in his hand! Then at a wedding rehearsal over the weekend I had a bride and groom tell me they would like me to share the story of my Tanzanian dream with their guests at their wedding and suggested I bring the QR code along for the GoFundMe!!! My heart is full!! There are so many beautiful people in this world!! Asante!!!

After my recent trip to Tanzania, I have some pretty big plans to help the children at Kiwalaa Primary school! I will be donating $200 AND 5 x stocked pencil cases for every wedding I book between now and December 2025. Tania and Andrew recently paid me for their upcoming April ceremony. So I donated $200 on their behalf and went shopping for 5 pencil cases and their contents! I would be incredibly grateful if you could help me in my mission to raise money to return in January of 2026 to renovate the classrooms (new floors, repair blackboard, patch the roof, paint etc) and give every child a stocked pencil case!! See the QR code or the link in the comment for the Go Fund Me!! Thanks everyone!!

20 years ago, in very wet conditions just like today, I married this incredible person. I knew he was a good man and I knew I loved him, but I never could have imagined just how much that love would grow and strengthen. He has never tried to change me and has always encouraged me to live my life my way. He has backed every crazy dream or idea I’ve ever had and has truly supported me in all things, from constant travelling all over the world, changing jobs when I need a break, spending essential time with my girlfriends and going on more trips to France than most people would deem necessary!! I know how lucky I am to have a husband who not only ‘lets’ me live my life, but actually insists on it! I love you. You are certainly a one in a billion. I love what we have and I can’t wait for the next 20 years!! (And for that old little stone house we’re going to one day buy in France!! 🤣)

Operation Kiwalaa Primary School! 🇹🇿

Having just come back from Tanzania, I am now on a mission to help the students and Education pour le Kilimanjaro as much as I can! I have come up with some short-term and long-term plans and your support would be extraordinarily loved and welcomed. Please also feel free to share this post, the more support I can get, the better!

Goal 1 - Student sponsorship
I have secured almost 30 sponsorship pledges already which is fantastic, but the students of Kiwalaa need more!
It’s a one off payment of $85 which provides the student with school shoes, a uniform, a school bag, some school supplies and school lunches.

Goal 2 - Pencil cases
The students at Kiwalaa had very few resources. Most only had 1 pen and 1 pencil. They shared a few rulers and rubbers amongst the class and none had coloured pencils. Seeing a class of 40+ students share one pack of coloured pencils was a sight I never want to see again!
I am hoping to collect 420 pencil cases that I can take with me when I return so that EVERY student will have some decent supplies. I would imagine it would cost no more than $10-$15 to put together each pencil case. I bought the first one today from Officeworks for just under $20 and I’m sure Kmart would be even cheaper. See pic for details!

Goal 3 - Operation Kiwalaa classroom makeover!!
In late 2025/early 2026 I plan to return to Kiwalaa to paint all of the classrooms and decorate the rooms with appropriate posters which I’ll make in collaboration with the staff at Kiwalaa. I have made it a way down the track for a few reasons…this will allow time for people interested to save money for flights etc, time for me to research grants, explore fundraisers and set up a GoFundMe page and time for Gabriel Marchand and I to really plan thoroughly so we get the most out of this project!
I’m hoping to have a group of 10-15 people come with me to help out! I’ve already started looking into accommodation (with hot water showers, flushing toilets and a few creature comforts!) and meal options. Sarah has incredible local connections who are currently looking after the French group and the food was amazing! I had lunch with them during the 3rd week of my trip and never went hungry! And I have some connections who can help out with airfares when the time comes! Leah Temple 😉 I even have connections now to get a discount on a safari!!
The idea would also be to include some of the local people to help as paid workers too, so the whole community benefits!
The trip will take place during the Dec/Jan school holidays and I’m thinking 1.5 weeks or so painting and decorating classes followed by a safari to see the extraordinary wildlife up close as a reward!! (Whoever comes along will load up an extra bag each with the pencil cases and get to hand them out too!!)

If anyone is interested in helping out with any of these goals, I’d love to hear from you! Please talk to your friends and family, share this post and feel free to hand out my mobile number to anyone who is interested or has good ideas!!

Thanks everyone!

It was a chilly Friday afternoon, but I don’t think this loved up couple even noticed the weather! Such a heartwarming and fun ceremony. Congratulations to the groom’s brother who won the hotly contested ‘scissors, paper, rock’ battle to be one of the lucky witnesses to sign all the paperwork!!
