"BEE” eco this Valentine:

You all know how we love to celebrate and what better occasion than
Valentine there is to spread love among family and friends. However , with
an estimated 1 billion Valentine's Day cards sent worldwide, 36 million
boxes of chocolates and countless flowers given each year, we believe it's
important to find a better way to tell someone that you love and appreciate
their presence in your life.

Here few suggestions for a more sustainable Valentine:

Love must be as much a light, as it is a flame. - Henry David Thoreau

• Hand written card:
write by hand those sweet words or a poem into an
delightful card of recycled paper. Or write a long list of all you love about the person. Everyone from your children to your friends,
parents and partners will appreciate the extra thought and personal touch.

• Adopt an Animal:
offer your Valentine the possibility to help a
real animal. Conservation organizations, Zoos and animal protection
organizations run animal adoption campaigns throughout the year and it would
be a perfect way to make a difference together.

• Essential oils instead of perfume:
Try to find an essential oil that reminds you of him/her. At Busy Bee Eco
party we thought to create a special Valentine bag with a bracelet of lava
stone whose natural porosity is ideal for retaining the perfume of essential
oils and releasing it slowly during the day

• When choosing flowers:
Choose potted plants and local whenever possible.

• Something unique
Plant a tree together to symbolize your relationship's strength and
endurance. Place a list of all the things you love about each other under its roots.

• A Massage…and a Romantic Bath:
relax with a long massage followed by a candle light bath for two. Offer
your valentine and yourself a massage by a local massage therapist one of

When you pour hot water into a cup with a plastic lining, what do you think happens to your coffee? ☕

In a recent study by Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur researchers set out to evaluate the degradation of plastic lined films in single-use cups. They found that 4 out of 5 disposable paper cups were lined with HDPE grade of plastic. In the experiment scientists poured hot water (85–90 °C) and left the samples for 15 minutes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Using fluorescence microscopy they discovered that approximately 25,000 micron-sized microplastic particles leached into one cup of water (100 ml). The analysis also found the presence of heavy metals—iron, chromium, and cadmium in particular—in the cup’s plastic lining. The report suggests that the Ingestion of microplastics, ions, and heavy metals regularly while using these single-use products can expose us to potential health risks in the future, like cancer and infertility.
