2017 Goat Track Theatre worked with the Yugambeh Language Museum to create "The Bunyip Story" which was a story that reflected the shared stories of the bunyip from our local area.
Charlie is brave and adventurous and he would gladly spend every day exploring the local creek instead of going to school. Isabella, by contrast loves the world of books. She is diligent, hardworking and hates dirt. The two of them have nothing in common until they are teamed up at school to deliver a presentation on …Bunyips.
Isabella doesn’t believe in Bunyips but she diligently researches the mysterious creature at the local library and on the internet, all the same. Meanwhile, Charlie speaks with his elders and secretly explores the local waterhole in the hope that he might just catch an elusive glimpse of the creature and prove its existence once and for all.
Their research will take then on a rollicking adventure through the libraries, historical records and waterholes in the area. This beautiful piece of theatre for primary school audiences explores Bunyip Stories from across Scenic Rim and the Gold Coast. It shares stories of these guardians of our local waterways and the lessons they have taught the Indigenous people of the Yugambeh Region.
This project has been conceived with the assistance of stories collected from elders across the Yugambeh Language region and historical records – in many ways the journey to create this piece of work is remarkably similar to that of Charlie and Isabella – piecing stories together bit by bit in order to maybe just get a peak at this mysterious creature.
We proudly acknowledge the contributions of the Yugambeh Language Museum, Queensland Theatre Company, The Regional Arts Fund of Australia and Scenic Rim Regional Council in the creation of this work. #goattracktheatre #yearofcourage #thebunyipstory #theatre #naidocweek
FLASHBACK FRIDAY "TROLLS" 2021
Our Fast Track Ensemble embarked on a mission to create a Children's Theatre Festival for our community of young people in 2021. The result was 26 short plays written and directed by our Fast Track students that was presented in one long weekend festival on Tamborine Mountain. We had over 500 audience come through the doors to watch the shows which varied in theme and content. There was witches, kings, princes, monks, frogs and dragons and in this FLASHBACK FRIDAY we had two families of trolls: one dirty and one clean. At its heart this was a story about embracing who you are and making friends.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY "SKIN" 2021
The Hurst Family Tannery has sat proudly down by the river for more than a hundred years but when Thomas Hurst dies, the business is left to his daughter, Ivy. The town of Braham is sceptical of the ‘out-of-towner’ with her new processes and her new chemicals but she quickly turns the ailing tannery around doubling both the company’s output and the wages of those who work there. Ivy garners the support of the whole town almost overnight. But when a mysterious disease starts to spread throughout the community, tensions begin to boil over, leading Ivy to consider a decision between people and profit.
‘SKIN,’ is a play that has been created with young people to explore the notions of environmental protection, corporate greed and denial. Ultimately, it asks us to consider how we are all responsible for the actions we take and the importance of long-term thinking.
‘SKIN appeared as one of six plays, that feature as a part of ‘THIS DARK KINGDOM’ - a collection of gothic fairy-tales that are inspired by conversations with young people.
