Tomorrow is our last day of teaching for 2024! We hope you have a safe, joyful, and relaxing Christmas.

Lessons will resume on Monday, 3 February 2025, and the office will reopen on Monday, 13 January 2025, from 10 am to 2 pm each weekday to answer any questions.

There are still spaces left in some Early Childhood Music classes for 2025. If you have a little one aged 3 months to 5 years (going to school in 2026), consider giving them the gift of music and enrolling in a class. New families are always welcome and may join at any stage of the program.

Two teams go head-to-head in a battle of musical wits

Prepare for an evening of music, laughter, and friendly competition as two panels, led by and , test their musical mettle.

Conservatorium teachers or friends join each panel, ready to bring their A-game. The house band - Jimmy Craz (guitar), Al Aurisch (bass), Jarron McGrane (drums), Todd Power (keys) and Brookie Gillett (vocals) - keeps the energy high with live performances throughout the night.

This evening, hosted by Noelene Bosworth, promises plenty of audience interaction and unforgettable performances from both teams. It’s the perfect way to wrap up a busy year with a fun and engaging night out.

The New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA) has released draft syllabuses for Music and Drama 11-12 that could significantly impact the future of these subjects in senior years. The proposed changes risk reducing the focus on performance and ensemble work, which could lead to fewer students choosing music and drama in their senior years. This, in turn, could affect the services provided by Regional Conservatoriums and the broader arts community.

We need your voice to advocate for the removal of the current drafts and call for a transparent, genuinely consultative review process that aligns with leading international curricula and research.

Sign the e-petition today! All NSW residents are eligible to sign, regardless of age. Together, we can ensure a vibrant and inclusive future for Music and Drama education in NSW schools.

Weather can have a big impact on the health of your instrument! Check with your teacher if you have any questions or notice your instrument falling out of tune more quickly than normal.

🎻 Attention All Strings Players 🎻

With the recent fluctuations in temperature and humidity over the last 2 weeks, we’re seeing an increase of instruments being impacted — such as strings going out of tune, fallen bridges, pegs popping out or necks dropping. This is entirely normal in these conditions, and we’re here to help!

Why is this happening? String instruments are sensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations, and this can cause your instrument to expand and contract, leading to potential issues like cracks forming or seams opening up.

How can you protect your instrument?

Use a Humidity Regulator: Boveda two-way humidity control products help maintain a stable humidity level inside your case. https://www.violins.com.au/search?q=boveda

Avoid sudden temperature changes: Keep your instrument in a climate-controlled environment as much as possible. (DO NOT LEAVE YOUR INSTRUMENT IN THE CAR)

Regular Maintenance: Regularly schedule visits to a qualified luthier or string technician to ensure your instrument is in optimal condition to withstand the challenges posed by seasonal changes. If you’d like our trained workshop staff to service your instrument, please book an appointment via our online booking form: https://www.violins.com.au/pages/book-a-workshop-appointment

Our team at The Sydney String Centre is here to help with any concerns. Your instrument’s health is our priority!
