Tom Woodward is a folksinger, guitar picker and writer of strange but compelling songs. He honed his craft in the thriving arts & music scene of Canberra and Melbourne in the mid 2000s. He spent two decades performing his original songs to audiences around Australia, Japan and the USA. His mid 2010s album Beautiful Shadows received critical acclaim in publications such as For Folk's Sake and The Huffington Post and earned him a Canberra Critics Circle award. In 2023 he put down the guitar and embarked on a two month walk up the east coast of Australia, ending in a hospital stay and a hard-earned respect for the fragility of life. A year and a half later he got deported as an illegal alien from the USA. Composed in the twilit limbo between these two life shattering events, Revolving Doors is his new album. It was released in August 2024 and he will be touring it with his band across the east coast of NSW in January.

Hailing from Canberra and having been sentenced to a wandering life by a sardonic and hilarious God, Woodward has been laughing, crying, and singing about it ever since.

Sitting eating Hayden's Pies (very valid Caravãna Sun recommendation- these pies are legit!) and reflecting on how fortunate we feel to be living this life. Yesterday was a dream show supporting Caravana Sun to the most fun audience and with the best sound at Four Winds!! During lockdown I wound up pretty much moving in with my mum and stepdad in Merimbula. I started going on multiday meanderings and busking outside the surf store on th main street. This went on, on and off, for about two years. That whole time, however, I never played an actual gig in the Bega Valley.

Finally, I'll be losing my Bega Valley gig virginity. On Jan 25th I'll be taking a kick-ass band and playing at Navigate Arts in Tanja, just north of Tathra, with support from Evan M. Buckley.

I'm really looking forward to this one. It's a beautiful spot. I've walked past it a few times and thought: "I should say hi to Libby, haven't seen her in 20 years." Libby is Louise, runs the place, did lots of theatre stuff in Canberra and Melbourne. First saw Louise perform in either 1996 or 1998 at The Street Theatre in a production of Bertolt Brecht's Baal. It was amazing. My friend Anna from Armidale came with me and it blew our pubescent brains out.

Anyway, when I finally caught up with Louise one afternoon a few months back, I didn't even get a selfie, which was lazy, coz it would make sense to share a selfie after this anecdote. Here's a picture of santa and a salt lamp instead.

I hope to see some of you Bega Valley lovelords and Canberrans on south coast holidays on the 25th of Jan.
