There’s an OLYMPIC MEDALLIST in our midst!

Reading the “about you” field on the Odyssey/GOGG entry forms never ceases to amaze us.

As we were scanning down the list today, our eyes were drawn to Wayne’s, entry.

It said:

“𝑂𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝐶𝑜𝑙𝑎𝑐. 𝑁𝑜𝑤 𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑛 𝐴𝑑𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑖𝑑𝑒.𝑂𝑙𝑦𝑚𝑝𝑖𝑐 𝐵𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑧𝑒 & 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑤𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑡ℎ 𝐺𝑜𝑙𝑑 𝑚𝑒𝑑𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 80'𝑠 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑘”

Curiosity piqued, we did a bit of a Google search…

Sure enough, he was part of the 1988 4000m Team Pursuit crew that did win a Bronze at the Seoul Olympics.

The team (including the legendary Dean Woods) covered the 4km in 4 mins and 16 seconds – an average of over 56km/h! (unfathomable considering the equipment of the 80s).

Wayne also won GOLD in the 1986 Commonwealth Games in the same discipline.

How good is that?!

Wayne is entered in the 97km GOGG this Feb and we’re honoured to have him.
(Let’s hope he’s a bit slower these days!)

Now, trivia time…

𝐀𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐜 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐝𝐲𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐲 𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐎𝐆𝐆?

27kg…

That’s the weight of 2.5 average sized monkeys…

One (fat) male British Bulldog…

3 full size watermelons…

– OR –

The amount of weight Otway Odyssey rider, Ryan, has lost in a single year, all thanks to mountain biking.

*𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 ‘𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟐.𝟓 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐲𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤’* 😂

In case you misread that…

In January 2024, Ryan was 108 kg and “𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒” (in his words).

He started riding mountain bikes…

And now, just 12 months later, he’s 81 kg and “𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑖𝑒𝑠𝑡 ℎ𝑒’𝑠 𝑏𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒”.

He’s now entered the 100km Otway Odyssey for 2025 to celebrate his reclaimed fitness.

That’s the beautiful thing about all these unconventional endurance sports we all love so much…

Yes, they are hard…

Yes, they take discipline…

And yes, your family and friends probably look at you like you’ve got 3 heads when you tell them you’re getting up early to ride 30, 50, 100km on the mountain bike…

BUT…

The payoff they bring (confidence, fitness, an entire social network of slightly crazy friends) is HUGE compared to the sacrifice.

It’s no wonder they’re so addictive.

So, next time you’re thinking “𝐼 𝑚𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑠𝑘𝑖𝑝 𝑚𝑦 𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑟𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝑡𝑜𝑑𝑎𝑦” think about Ryan, think about how lucky you are to have found a way to stay in shape that you frickin’ love… Then HIT THE TRAILS.

You’ll feel better for it.

Huge congratulations Ryan. Can’t wait to cheer you across the finish line in Feb.

[𝐎𝐓𝐖𝐀𝐘 𝐎𝐃𝐘𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐘 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝐊𝐌 | 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐒 | 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝟔 | 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐊]

Whenever we think of Thompson Track, we immediately think of the Thompson Submachine Gun…

And that’s because when you hit this 𝟏𝟎.𝟑𝟐𝐤𝐦 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐛, 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟕𝟕.𝟓𝐤𝐦 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞, it feels like having your legs torn apart by one thousand bullets.

It’s long…

It’s steep (getting up to 15% in places)...

And it’s brutally late in the race.

Good news is, you can mentally break the climb into 2 parts…

1) 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟔𝐤𝐦 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞 🥵– with an average of 4.4% (with plenty of leg-sappingly steep sections).

2) 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐧, 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐩, ~𝟏𝐤𝐦 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 😅…

3) And, 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐩 😵‍💫(~620m above sea level).

The whole thing (including descent) is a smidgen over 10km and, believe it or not, the KOM does NOT belong to Tali Lane-Welsh…

Rather, Brendan “Trekky” Johnston has the record from 2023. He rode the entire climb in 30 mins 45 seconds at an average power of 372 watts 🤯 (he went on to finish 2nd to Dan McConnell by just 2 seconds!).

The women’s QOM is also a bit surprising…

It’s not Bec Henderson…

Not Peta Mullens…

But Samara Sheppard, in 2023, when she polished off the climb in a rapid 36 mins 32 seconds to claim 3rd place overall (power data not available 😔).

Elites aside…

This climb is a brute and should be respected.

When you go through the footy ground for the 3rd and final time, eat plenty, have a caffeine gel and get ready for a loooong push to the high point.

Having said that, you can afford to *somewhat* empty the tank towards the top – it’s all down hill from the top (except for the uphills).

It’s easy for us to get biased about our own races – they are our “babies” after all.

That’s why we try to get as much raw and honest feedback after each event as possible.

Sometimes we get a lot…

Sometimes we get a little…

Sometimes it’s good…

Sometimes it’s constructive…

And sometimes it’s downright bizarre ("more raw-sashimi at the aid stations please"*)…

But, after the first ever Shimano Gravel Muster, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

So, if you're thinking about joining the 2025 event, don’t take our word for why you should “absolutely, 1000% DO IT”...

Instead, check out the dozens of straight-from-the-horses-mouth opinions (pictured) from people who’ve actually experienced the event for themselves.

Hope it helps,

The Rapid Ascent Team

P.S. The event is already 30% full (40% female, 60% male ranging from 25-60+). So, by all means, do you research. But don't dilly, dally for too long before pulling the trigger...

Yeees!

The ol' faithful elites are coming out of the woodwork to tackle the 2025 Otway Odyssey.

This time, it's FOUR TIME Olympian and MULTI World-Cup winner (not to mention 3-time Odyssey champ!), Rebecca Henderson.

The pieces are falling into place for another EPIC Odyssey...

Who's joining Bec Henderson on the start line?

08/01/2025

He’s BACK!

6 time Odyssey champion, Chris “J-Blood” Jongawaard has confirmed he’ll be racing the 100KM event again this Feb.

And when you look at his track record, you might wonder “WHY?!”...

Surely he’s achieved enough in cycling to sit back, relax and enjoy some less painful pursuits.

But, according to Chris:

“𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑘𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑏𝑜𝑥𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑦 𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠:
– 𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑢𝑝 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑓𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑠
– 𝑅𝑜𝑎𝑑 𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑝
– 𝑇𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑡 1-𝑑𝑎𝑦 𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑜𝑛 𝑚𝑦 𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑎𝑟
– 𝑉𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑂𝑡𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑅𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑠”

Truth be told…

We think he’s not-so-secretly thinking there’s another win left in those experienced legs.

And it’s certainly not out of the question...

Last year, Chris finished 11th – just 10 mins 55 seconds off the record-breaking pace of Tali Lane-Welsh (not bad over ~5 hours of racing).

Could he be poised to teach the young-guns a lesson in 2025?

Forget death and taxes…

If there are 2 certainties in 2025, it’s these:

1) 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐛𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧’ 𝐚𝐰𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 (it’s one of life’s small treasures)…

And…

2) 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐓𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 (did you know 80% of 18-28 year olds struggle to find work? Let alone afford the ridiculous costs of living!).

But what if you could solve both issues (new bike gear – AND – easing the burden for young people) in one fell swoop?

𝐖𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐂𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐎𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐎𝐝𝐲𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐲/𝐆𝐎𝐆𝐆.

Good Cycles is a social enterprise and registered charity that helps young people to find meaningful work in the bike industry with 100% OF PROFIT going towards their program.

Since 2013, Good Cycles has provided employment and training pathways to over 750 Young People.

How else you can help?

1) 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐂𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬:

You’ll find Good Cycles bike shops in Geelong, Melbourne CBD and Brunswick.

Again, they reinvest 100% of their profits to support young people who are experiencing barriers to employment (so you can buy shiny gear and feel good about it!).

𝟐) 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞:

If you’re feeling extra generous, you can donate via their website OR when you register for the Odyssey/GOGG (you will see the option to donate at checkout).

Ella Bloor…

You might have seen her racing at the pointy end of the Lifetime Grand Prix in 2023…

Or crossing the line of Unbound in an impressive 28th position this year…

Or maybe you saw her riding SOLO across Australia (4,000km from Perth to Sydney) in an impressively small number of days earlier in 2024…

But what you might not have seen is that, as soon as Ella finished her trans-continental push...

She jumped straight on a plane for Alice Springs for the inaugural Shimano Gravel Muster Stage Race (which she won convincingly).

We were honoured to have such a decorated and accomplished two-wheeled adventurer at the Muster.

Check out the video to hear about .bloor's experience in the red centre.

Welcome to “The Hypnotiser”!

After coming through the footy ground expo for the first time – and hopefully stuffing your face with a metric sh*tload of sugar (you’ll need it) – you’ll climb a steep bit of fire track (Boundary Rd) before entering the Yaugher single-track zone.

And, in the Odyssey, there’s not much of Yaugher your tyres won’t traverse!

You’ll ride all the famous tracks like Grasstrees, Mariners, The Yaugher Super Loop, and J2…

And, at the 68km mark – WHACK – you’ll meet the infamous “Sandy Pinch” – a 260m long, steep, loose climb that only the most elite riders can get up on two wheels. (Our advice is to save plenty of energy for the top third of this pinch).

All told, The Yaugher Hypnotiser is an undulating 34km that will have you changing directions more times than a ping-pong ball in a washing machine.

SAVE PLENTY OF BICCIES FOR YAUGHER!

If you’re riding this section with heavy legs/eyelids, you can lose a lot of flow (and speed).

THROWBACK THURSDAY:

We had a bit of fun this morning trawling through the photos from the 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟎 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚.

If you haven't run this area, it's WELL worth the trek over from the East coast (and beyond).

Good news is, there are still a few spaces in the 42km event for 2025.

More info here:

Oh, and if you like the look of this running paradise...

Don't forget the XTERRA Asia-Pacific 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐋 𝐑𝐔𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 are coming to the West Coast (Dunsborough) in March next year.

There are 3 distances to choose from (38km, 21km, 10km)....

The course is truly world-class...

The township has everything you need for a great weekend away (an abundance of restaurants, great coffee, tranquil turquoise water and bush surrounds)...

And it's the RICHEST trail race in Australia with a prize pool of ~$8,000!

If you're a competitive runner anywhere in Aus, you should seriously consider making it your "A race".

The reason it's relevant to Odyssey is because merch orders for these events will strictly close on the 19th Jan.

After that it'll be "too late, too late".

(Merch for these events will ONLY be online (to reduce/eliminate wastage) so there won't be stock available at race day).

So...

If you want a t-shirt, please put a reminder in you calendar – or better yet, enter and order your merch now.

You can do so here: https://bit.ly/41mTj1o

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬:

The Shimano Gravel Muster is an all-inclusive, 4-day gravel stage race set in the wild and atmospheric landscapes of the East MacDonnell Ranges (NT).

As Australia’s only gravel stage race, the Gravel Muster perfectly embodies “the spirit of gravel” – wide open roads, shimmering horizons, campfires & camaraderie with a healthy dose of competition.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬:

WHAT: 4 day gravel stage race (all inclusive)

𝟏) 𝐄𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝟒𝟓𝐤𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟏𝟒𝟖𝐤𝐦

Your cumulative time for all race segments will become your overall racing time with various categories and awesome prizes (thanks Shimano). Or you can cruise it all if you want to just for the experience.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐰:

𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 #𝟏: 𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫...

The Gravel Muster is a once in a lifetime mission into a remote corner of the earth with an entire cohort of like minded riders.

It’s something you’ll likely never do alone, but at the same time, something you’ll think back on for the rest of your life.

𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 #𝟐: 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬...

Due to accommodation limits, we need to keep this small and intimate.

Think Cape Epic or Migration Gravel Race – it's small enough to make it feel like you're riding with mates, but big enough to be buzzing with a festival-like vibe.

We have no idea when this will sell out, but it's first in, best dressed.

𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 #𝟑: 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐭?!

Have you ever undertaken a wild, outdoor challenge like this and regretted it??

Enough said 😜

“𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑐𝑟𝑎𝑠ℎ 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑡” – Richie Porte

It’s not everyday you get to ride next to one of the GOATS of Aussie cycling for 4-days straight.

It’s even rarer to get to dine, chill and share a beer with them beside an outback pool.

Yet, that’s exactly what we were treated to at the 2024 Gravel Muster when Richie Porte jumped at the opportunity to ride.

Not only did he impress onlookers with a few turns of speed on the front...

He's also just an awesome, down to earth bloke who was a heap of fun to hang out with.

Check out the video to hear about his experience at the Muster.

𝐏.𝐒. Rumour has it we’ll be greeted with ANOTHER member of Aussie cycling royalty in 2025. Any guesses who?

𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐎 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐋 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍 𝐍𝐄𝐗𝐓 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐘 (𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫)!

If you’re an adventurous cyclist looking for something bigger… more wild… and more social than your average bike race…

"IT'LL LEAVE YOU TIRED, DUSTY AND BEGGING TO GET OUT THERE AND DO IT AGAIN!" (as one rider from the 2024 event said).

Here are 6 "top level" facts to help you prepare:

1) 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟐𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓

2) 𝐈𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 but takes you DEEP into the desert for the middle 2 days (staying on iconic cattle stations)…

3) This year, 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 (we have no idea how quickly they’ll fill, so safest bet is to get in early)

4) There will be some 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 coming (stay tuned to learn who)

5) This is an two-wheeled adventure NOT to be missed…

As Richie Porte said after the 2024 event:

“𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒘𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 4 𝒅𝒂𝒚𝒔.. 𝑺𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒘 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆… 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒊𝒕 𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒇𝒆𝒘 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒔.𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒂𝒘𝒆𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆… 𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒂 𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒍.”

Ok…

You’ve got through the first big fire track climb or Kaanglang Rd (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BBXH2ihwQ/)…

Survived the undulating descent (and the Noonday climb! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=558410659993919)…

And displayed some flare on the Red Carpet timed descent (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EqaXDhVQA/).

Now it’s time for the single track to kick off in earnest at Forrest’s newly refurbished Southern Trail Network (at the 27km point of the race).

First, you’ll climb for approximately 2km on “Stomp Wallaby”, before joining “Third Time Lucky” and “Follow the Dog” for a fun rollercoaster of trails.

This is a magnificent, weaving and flowy section of track through the rich-green ferns – complete with rollable jumps, sweeping berms and enjoyable climbs (just watch out for loose sections of gravel).

You can watch the Flow MTB crew shredding this section:
https://youtu.be/7tiiqgXEMPA?t=218

After 12km of leg pumping action, it's back onto the Yaugher Rd for a cruise/TT back to the Footy Oval (Race HQ) for your first re-fuelling (and cheers from the crowd).

Now, for the Strava stalkers and KOM hunters…

The Segment to chase in this section is “Forrest 6 Follow the dog”.

No surprises that Tali Lane-Welsh holds the men’s KOM (13:42) and Peta Mullens holds the women’s (16:38)... or at least they do until next February (?).

Rapid Ascent Adventure Sports Event Management

Regarded as Australia’s leading adventure sports event management company, Rapid Ascent organises off-road, adventure and niche sports events across Australia ranging from mass participation adventure races (the world’s largest!) to boutique mountain bike festivals and unique trail running events. We conceive and host our own events and also offer other organisations and brands custom event management services (see further down for more details).

Rapid Ascent currently hosts a number of major events across adventure racing, multisport, mountain biking and trail running disciplines. In addition, we are also contracted to manage the logistics for several other events including the Mother's Day Classic Geelong and the Coastrek Series. And we always have more adventure event ideas bubbling away in the background.

Importantly, our races and events are about much more that the sports we happen to love, they’re about appreciating the great outdoors, promoting environmental awareness, healthy lifestyles, community participation and creating a friendly festival atmosphere for everyone.
