What a great idea and a lovely way to teach children about caring and happiness

A teacher gave a balloon to every student, who had to inflate it, write their name on it and throw it in the hallway. The teacher then mixed all the balloons. The students were then given 5 minutes to find their own balloon. Despite a hectic search, no one found their balloon.
At that point, the teacher told the students to take the first balloon that they found and hand it to the person whose name was written on it. Within 5 minutes, everyone had their own balloon.
The teacher said to the students: "These balloons are like happiness. We will never find it if everyone is looking for their own. But if we care about other people's happiness, we'll find ours too."
May your day be filled with happiness. ❤️

I was up at Soldiers Beach on Saturday to run through a wedding rehearsal for an upcoming ceremony. I think it is a good idea to meet and plan out the day at exactly the same time as you are going to have the actual wedding ceremony so that you can see what the tide is doing, where the sun is, how much shade you will have and a thousand other variables that come along with holding an outdoor wedding.

I know I am always talking about having a back-up plan when it comes to holding an outdoor wedding because the weather can be so unpredictable and Saturday was a perfect example.

When I left the house to make the 3 minute drive to Soldiers, it was cold with a bit of wind but there was blue sky. By the time I got to the beach most of the blue had been replaced by grey clouds and the wind had picked up considerably and it was freezing. The surf was wild, set after set crashing loudly halfway up the sand, so between the waves and the wind it was really hard to hear each other speak. Within 10 minutes of meeting the first light drops of rain started, by the time we walked (then ran) the 200 meters back to the stairs the heavens had opened up and we were all drenched. And the rain didn't let up for hours.

We ended up regrouping at Lou's Cafe (Main Rd, East Toukley) for a hot chocolate and a chat and were able to run through most of the day's events.

As with every couple that I marry who are planning an outdoor wedding, I had advised this couple to make a back-up plan, just in case. Luckily for them, they took the advise and spoke to the manager at Dunes Soldiers Beach where they are going to have their reception and they are happy to switch things up on the day so that the wedding ceremony can be held inside Dunes if the weather turns nasty. Good on you Dunes.

Remember, while outdoor weddings here on the coast are simply stunning, sometimes Mother Nature has other plans for the day so in the weeks leading up to your big day keep an eye on the weather (wind, rain, extreme heat), check the tides (low tides, high tides, lots of sand, no sand) and always, always have a back-up plan.

Yesterday I had the good fortune to work with a funeral director in Woy Woy Sarah Tolmie. Sarah is a humanist funeral director and celebrant, and I must say, she is the epitome of the term "humanist". The service was held at the family home, the family were given all the time and support they needed to farewell their beloved father with honour and love. What a beautiful service, what a beautiful family, and what a beautiful celebrant - funeral director. I truly feel privileged, honoured and humbled to have played even such a small role in the celebration of life. Thank you Sarah.

I just returned from Sydney having lead a beautiful service for a young lady. I am always humbled and honoured to be asked to be the celebrant. And being welcomed into their life story, to be a very small part of the celebration of love, touches my heart deeply.
All my love, thoughts and prayers are with you all.
May the sunrise of tomorrow bring you peace and joy.

The sunrise was calling me at 5am this morning. So I headed off to Cabbage Tree for some deep thinking and reflection.
The beauty of our local area never ceases to amaze me.
Being surrounded by and connected to nature is definitely medicine for the soul.
A bonus this morning was running into a friend who was there for his daily early morning ocean dip. I have not seen him for a while, so it was an absolute delight. Glenn is such a beautiful peaceful soul and I am truly grateful to have people like him in my life, even if I do have to get up at 5am to see him.
I thought I would share the glory of the sunrise over Cabbage Tree with you. I hope it brings you as much joy and peace as it brings me.
Happy Monday everyone

I have just returned from officiating the most beautiful couture wedding that I have been fortunate enough to be involved in for quite some time. It was heartfelt, intimate, relaxed and one of the most enjoyable afternoons I have had.

Rather than just reporting on the details like I normally do, I thought I would take this opportunity to explain the difference between a "Registry Style Ceremony", an "Elopement Style Ceremony" and a "Couture Style Ceremony" as I see them.

A Registry Style Ceremony is where the couple choose to have a very quick, legal requirements only ceremony. Occassionally they will do a ring exchange and have a photo taken, but usually it is just a 15 minute ceremony in my office with the couple and their witnesses. This is the perfect ceremony for couples who are time-poor or who do not want a fuss.

An Elopement Style Ceremony can be anything from very simple like the registry ceremony through to a highly planned day shared with close family and friends or anything in between. An Elopement usually takes a bit of planning to arrange a destination, photos, rings, clothing, theme, accommodation or unusual venue (such as the glow worm caves) and a low key after ceremony celebration of some sort. Couples will usually choose a personalised ceremony that suits their personalities and the feeling they are trying to capture. I love doing elopement ceremonies. They are normally low stress events with an emphasis on fun. An Elopement Style Ceremony is perfect for couples who are looking for a relaxed, something a little different, intimate wedding.

A Couture Style Ceremony on the other hand is where the couple are after the non-fuss of a registry style wedding but the emotion and feel of a gala event. They usually include very personal touches such as a theme, a destination, a ritual and a personalised ceremony similar to a gala event, just on a smaller scale. They are normally intimate, relaxed, fun events share with closed family and friends (usually under 20 guests). For some reason, Couture weddings often remind me of beautiful village weddings where the guests bring a plate of food to share. I have been lucky enough to officiate Couture weddings at the beach, on a jetty, on a boat, in a restaurant, in a park and, like today, in the family home accompanied by the fur-babies.

I guess what I am trying to say is, no matter what your budget, your personality, your hopes and dreams are, by working closely with your celebrant, you can create the wedding ceremony of your dreams. Whether you have 2 guests in a registry or you have 150 guests on a deserted island, where there is love, there is a beautiful wedding ceremony.

Make your wedding day special for you and you can't go wrong.

Are you planning on getting married?
Are you looking for a wedding ritual that expresses your unique love for each other?
Have you ever thought of including a combined ring exchange and hand-fasting ceremony or just a hand-fasting without the rings?
I have found a woman here on the Central Coast who makes the most extraordinary hand-fasting cords out of ribbon, tartan, cloth, lace (well out of anything you like actually) that you can use during the ceremony then frame to turn into a wonderful memento of your special day.
I am including a few photos of ones she has made me to use in ceremonies, but you should check out her page as she has a lot of different handmade wedding ceremony and reception items that are sure to make your day truly your own.
