Bathurst race 5 - 10 Balraj: Hes $1.60 BUT he’s just a nice anchor in a multi. He just wins this. Fastest sections of the meeting first up at Newcastle from a long way further back than he’ll get tonight. He’s a 🔒

Race 6 - 1 Flying Colours: Saw this trip 7 days ago. He was a bit disappointing but draws better again here and the company isn’t as tough. For him the rain might have to stay away as the track bias suggests anything on the inside struggles under very wet conditions. $3.6 today, last week you were getting 2.5. Worth another go.

Pretty skinny night otherwise. Laurie Dee might go ok but they’ve knocked the price around a but. Everything else is too short to touch.

Tonight at Penrith:

Race 1: Lochart Shard should be going very close. The connections were all on course last time and wouldn't surprise if they were there again. Went 56 last time drawing the same. ($2.50)

Race 3: Like the way Blazing Shannon hit the line last time after interference into the first corner, same sort of map into the race and could go just as well here. Possible drifter in the market late (already $5.50 -> $7) and may be worth some thought E/W if you can get any better odds. ($7/$2.20)

Race 5: Double Encounter won really easily the last time he came to Penrith and looks down in grade again. ($2.50) I think this is the most reliable favourite way of the night.

For what it's worth, here's my take on the Giga Kick fiasco... "If the connections of Giga Kick boot Craig Williams off I hope Craig never forgets, never rides for Clayton Douglas again and Giga Kick gets beaten a furlong in the Everest. By doing what he did, Willo may have save the horse for later in the campaign. That wasn't the grand final... Camps are far too quick to sack riders off one poor outing."

As the Carnival of Miracles comes to a close it's important to look back and realise what superb efforts right across the series. None more so than Mach Dan who although wasn't a feature in the Miracle Mile, ran a Grand Final style race in the Newcastle Mile. It was an honour and a thrill to call such a great race!

Per HRNSW News - Captain Ravishing will be relying on a WILDCARD into the Miracle Mile! An outside chance based on the strength of the Q E II Mile and the guaranteed speed of the two sprints.

Shirley Turnbull Memorial this evening from Bathurst. A wonderful program with quality right across the 8 races. This is THE place to be tonight.

Race 5 (Group 2): 5 - Jilliby Kung Fu ($3.40). Previous place getter in a record breaking Miracle Mile. Won this year's Tony Turnbull over 2300m at Menangle and it appears he has been targeted for this race. Has the better of the draws on the rest of the rivals and is going to be awfully hard to stop. Hardest to beat 13 - Mach Shard. Group 1 winner over 2400m but just needs some luck. 14 - Petes Said So and 10 Jay OK racing consistently could also get some minor money.

BEST BET: Race 7: 10 - Haveyoucheckedin: Monstrous effort last start to nearly win the Western Regional Group 3 for 2YO C&G's. This race is easier and despite not having run for nearly three weeks, these long gaps between runs don't seem to phase this runner and he holds his fitness quite well. Key rivals poorly drawn in comparison. He'll be hard to stop at the $2.40.

For perspective on the ID Pacing Grand Final. If Act Now had run the same sections in last year's Shirley Turnbull Memorial (over broadly the same distance) it would have been 3 seconds behind on the lead time in slop conditions. It was an incredible effort for I Cast No Shadow to pick up Act Now and win.

Menangle:

Race 4 - 7 Silk Cloud. Loves this time of year. Using this race as a stepping stone towards NSWBC. Big danger.

Race 7 - 11 A Gs White Socks. Massive drop in grade. Went super first up and should have the power to overhaul them here.
