Tomorrow night we will be at the Pittsworth town hall from 5pm, there’s a great concert happening with Queens of Song, so much talent. The concert starts 7pm. You will hear many classic songs from bygone ladies, tickets are available at the door, refer to my previous posts. We will be serving Zentveld’s coffee, delicious frappe’s and light snacks.

We are very excited to be heading to Yuleba this weekend for the Cobb & Co anniversary celebrations. The camp oven dinner is sold out on Saturday night, but we will be at the markets on Sunday with the coffee trailer. We will try to get some photos over the weekend.

CHARLIE O'BRIEN JOINS LEGEND DRIVER GUESTS
FOR AGP 75TH CELEBRATIONS AT LEYBURN

LEYBURN (Qld) - Veteran Australian touring car and open-wheel racer Charlie O’Brien will make a special guest appearance at the Historic Leyburn Sprints on 17-18 August, joining a host of motorsport legends celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Leyburn Australian Grand Prix.

O’Brien contested the Australian Grand Prix in 1981-82-83, but spent most of his long career in tin-tops including stints with the Holden Dealer Team, Dick Johnson Racing and Allan Moffat Racing

At Leyburn, the Queenslander will appear alongside Formula 5000 and fellow grand prix competitors Warwick Brown, John Bowe and Bruce Allison, Bowe’s long-time team leader Dick Johnson and motorsport identities Ron Harrop and Brian Gelding.

The group will join the Sprints official opening and 75th commemoration ceremony on Saturday 17 August and attend other activities including fan meet-and-greet sessions.

“Charlie O’Brien has had an amazing career and will be well remembered by many motorsport fans attending the Sprints,” Sprints President Tricia Chant said.

“He’s done everything from racing in the Australian Grand Prix to touring cars, sports cars and even NASCAR. We’re grateful he has been able to join us for what will be an historic weekend at Leyburn in more than the usual sense and know he’ll be welcomed enthusiastically by the Sprints patrons.”

O’Brien joined the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1976 and had almost immediate success in a Holden Torana SLR5000. At Amaroo Park Raceway, at age 21, he became the youngest winner in touring car records, a distinction held until 2003.

He won the 1982 National Panasonic Series driving an Australian Formula 1 Ralt RT4 and the 1987 New Zealand National Touring Car Series in his own BMW 635CSi.

Other drives were in Super Touring, Porsche Carrera Cup, V8 Utes, GT3, Touring Car Masters, GT Production and Australian NASCAR.

The Sprints competition starts at 8am on Saturday and Sunday. Adult tickets are available on-line or at the gate for $25 a day or $35 for the weekend, with children under 14 free. On-street parking is free. The event also is holding a raffle to win a Bathurst 1000 weekend for two valued at more than $11,000 or five $500 Supercheap Auto vouchers. Tickets can be bought on the website.

The 2024 Historic Leyburn Sprints is proudly supported by the Queensland Government. The Department of Tourism and Sport (Sport and Recreation), the Queensland Destination Events Program and the Southern Downs Regional Council provide assistance to help promote the Sprints and attract visitors to the Southern Downs region. The 2024 event also is supported by Motorsport Australia and many commercial sponsors. The Historic Leyburn Sprints was named 2017 Queensland Motor Sport Event of the Year. Proceeds from the community-run event assist local organisations and projects through the Historic Leyburn Sprints Community Benefit Fun.

Well, cover me in sunshine and pack your trucks, people! We have blue skies, a little bit of wind to dry up what is left of the wet weather and three days of showjumping, Easter eggs and holidays ahead!

It has been an anxious few days for the Darling Downs Show Jumping Club Inc committee. As anyone who has planned an equestrian event knows, a small collection of people spend countless months of their own time to get it together and to have wet weather hit is pretty tough.

We have had so many people reach out to support us with positivity, encouragement and excitement over the last few days and we would like to thank you! The sport of showjumping is made better by competitors and supporters like you! It is what this sport is about. We are stronger and more powerful as a community if we choose to lift one another up.

Just a reminder this morning to please remember:

ALL THREE DAYS: COURSE WALK AT 7 AM - FIRST HORSE ON COURSE AT 7.30 AM IN BOTH RINGS.

- Pack your wheelbarrows for sawdust
- Stabling up on global
- Pack some warm clothes for the evenings
- call Raff's produce in Pittsworth this morning for any last minute feed orders
