We have officially closed up our shop front in Victor Harbor :(

We will be taking a break in July to spend time together as a family and will commence our catering in August.

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped pack up, clean, move furniture and paint. You are all amazing and I couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you to our wonderful staff, customers and friends who supported us over the last 2 years.

This is not the last of SHAA KOO TUH REE bigger and better things are in the works.

Train Update

Full steam ahead – Recovery of the Historic Cockle Train is right on track

The recovery of the beloved Cockle Train is well underway following its derailment outside of Victor Harbour on Sunday 21st May 2023.

Keolis Downer Adelaide (KDA), proud operators of Adelaide Metro Train Services, generously donated their time and resources to assist the SteamRanger Heritage Railway in returning the historic railcar back to its rails, and in remediating track damages caused from the incident.

Rectification work will include the installation of concrete sleepers across 250 metres of track, and construction of retaining walls to reduce degeneration and increase the life span of one of Australia’s oldest railway lines. KDA’s Track and Civil Team aim to rectify the damages with minimal impact to the local community, and with a prompt resumption of the cherished service.

The Cockle Train will remain on a truncated service between Goolwa and Port Elliot until the end of June, while track repairs and pre-arranged infrastructure works are undertaken in conjunction with the City of Victor Harbour.

Operations Manager, Peter Michalak said “We wholeheartedly thank Keolis Downer Adelaide, for sharing their capability and kind assistance in returning the much-loved Cockle Train to its rails. I was blown away by the thoughtful phone call I received from their Head of Track and Civil offering to help.”

Managing Director of Keolis Downer Adelaide, Robert Tatton-Jones said “The SteamRanger Heritage Railway and Cockle Train are close to the heart of many South Australians and our visitors, and it is a privilege to get our highly skilled team down South to support the rectification efforts, and most importantly, the local community. Further updates in regard to the resumption of Cockle Train services will be provided via the SteamRanger website, and social media channels.

Winter and all her glory has arrived, along with sightings of Humpback Whales along the Encounter Bay coastline. Due to this Sunday's wet and wild forecast the Winter Whale Fest official launch events have been postponed.

🐳 Winter Whale Fest Expo will now be held on Saturday, 10 June
🐋 Welcoming of the Whales and Smoking Ceremony will now be held on Sunday, 11 June

The Winter Whale Fest program, no matter the weather, still has more than 25 events spanning from Thursday, May 25 to Sunday, 25 June. Choose from Snorkeling Granite Island and Playing with Sharks: The Valerie Taylor Story at Victa Cinemas to Ngarrindjeri/Ramindjeri basket weaving and culture with Cedric Varcoe at Coral Street Art Space.

Our afternoon in Victor Harbor has started with a splash with a sighting of a Humpback Whale 📸🙌

🐳 2.30pm - One Humpback Whale has spotted North-west of West Island, Victor Harbor heading North East approximately 100 metres from the island.

🐳 2.05pm - One Humpback Whale has spotted approximately 300 metres north of Kings Head, Victor Harbor.

🐳🐳 1.40pm - Two Humpback Whales have been sighted approximately 1000 metres out travelling towards Kings Head.

🐳 1.30pm - A Humpback Whale has been sighted approximately 500 metres out from the Heritage Trail, half way between Petrel Cove and Depledge Beach slowly traveling towards Kings Head.

Steamranger Heritage Railway, South Australia have put up notice that cockletrain services will only run between Goolwa and Pt Elliot while maintenance work is carried out on the track.

Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who make this train service possible you are all absolute stars. Steamranger are always on the hunt for new volunteers so if you would like to join their team get in contact with them :)

The end of our current lease on Railway Terrace is almost upon us which means it's time for us to move on.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our absolutely amazing customers who supported us over the last 2 years. You all made every hard day that little bit easier with all your funny stories and wisdom. You have all become like family to us.

Our beautiful staff who all started here as their first jobs and have grown so much, it's been a pleasure to mentor you and I'm glad to have you all by my side every time I put my coffee or phone down then couldn't find it 🤣

Our plan is to find a new space here in Victor Harbor but we will take each day as it comes.

This is certainly not the last of SHAA KOO TUH REE we will take this closing door and find a brighter door to open!

Unfortunately due to a track fault that was detected during routine inspection, The Cockle Train scheduled to operate between Goolwa and Victor Harbour on WEDNESDAY 10th MAY 2023 is CANCELLED.

Rectification works will commence immediately.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We expect services to resume as normal from Sunday.
