Our Story...

High in the heart of the northern mountains of Lebanon sits the vey old and very beautiful village of Ehden. Surrounded by a stunning forest and refreshed by a breathtaking water stream which bursts off it's eastern mountain, Ehden is dotted with ancient Juniper Fir and wild apple trees.

For over 400 years, every summer the people of nearby coastal village of Zgharta leave their homes and migrate to Ehden to enjoy the cooler days, time with loved ones and the beauty of the area. This place is where our story begins.

Simon Barakat’s career as a restauranteur began when he joined his father Sayed at the iconic Gino’s Italian restaurant in Hamilton more than three decades ago. Since then Simon has been the brains behind a number of successful Brisbane based ventures such as Il Verde on King Street, Hamilton’s Northshore and The Defiant Duck.

​Sayed has shared many stories of childhood summers spent in Ehden, carrying his own stool down to summer school (a makeshift outdoor job in front of the local butcher) and the trouble the village boys would get up to. But, what we love the most are the stories of the families from the village coming together to eat, drink and celebrate - everyone was welcome and there was always more than enough food for all. With this strong ethic of Lebanese hospitality instilled from his father, one thing that you will immediately notice in any of Simon’s venues is the family atmosphere - the feeling that you are at home, you are always welcome and you never leave hungry!
