When I was 15, we went on a family driving holiday from our home in Queensland to Adelaide via Broken Hill, then up through Canberra, Sydney, Dubbo and home to south east Queensland. We did all the tourist places along the way— but by far the stand out for me was the Lavender farms in the Adelaide hills. The sight of the mauve

flower mounds as we drove through the farm gates, and that incredible aroma that fills you when you step outside, just filled me with love (and relaxation). I spent ages in their gift shop of beautifully hand made lavender products, and filled a bag with hand cream, eye pillows, and my favourite, lavender jam. Throughout the years I’ve always had a stash of lavender oil on hand and tried my hand at creating with the oil and flowers. So my love of lavender began. Also growing up on a small farm we always had swarms of native bees in our Pepperina trees. We often talked about how great it would be to have honey bees,and the process of beekeeping fascinated me. Fast forward 20 or so years and the opportunity arose of my husband, Craig and I, to purchase part of my family’s land - including an incredible bore and dam. With two children, one at school and one under foot, and Craig working FIFO, we decided now was a good time to use the land to fulfil the lavender dream. The idea to establish bee hives was a natural addition to our lavender fields. We all know that no bees means no pollination. Lavender and bees are a the perfect pair. So here our dream begins in the small south east Queensland town of Westbrook, known for its a windy weather, cool winters, mild summers, and close to the garden city of Toowoomba. Like any good thing, the process will take time and there are other exciting additions in the pipe line too. We hope to have an established honey supply by Spring 2021 and our first lavender harvest in 2021 too. After many months of research and with a very capable husband, who loves to get on the machinery, we start soil preparation Spring 2020. We’re also welcoming her royal highnesses the Queen Bees and her entourage, to their castles at that time too. We can’t wait to bring you updates of our preparation and progress, and things we’re learning along the way. We look forward to sharing our Windy Acres Farm journey with you. Please follow our journey on FB and instagram and share with like minded lavender and honey lovers- or just support our small business venture by following on. We’re also looking for potential suppliers of first harvest of fresh lavender, if it’s something that interests you send us a message.

{{REDUCING WASTE- WE WANT YOUR EMPTIES}}

Those who have been to our farm or have seen our products and packaging, would have noticed most of our products are packaged in glass or aluminium tins. This was a deliberate decision to reduce waste. But also to encourage our customers to return their packaging to us, for a discount on their next purchase. The glass and aluminium is then sterilised and reused. Some customers have even said they have reused the packaging for other things at home, which is amazing!

So, if you have purchased our products and have the empty packaging at home, bundle it up, bring it back and you will receive a discount for each piece you bring back- it doesn’t even have to be the same product!

I actually get very excited when I see jars and bottles being returned, it saves you and saves us! Little things can add up to a big difference!!

{{SAVE THE DATE}}

We’re celebrating our beautiful flowers in full bloom a little differently this year!

Our usual picnic and market day is moving to the twilight time slot! We love inviting our community for a picnic and this year we thought it would be special to have a family friendly outdoor movie to enjoy after the sun sets.

Do a little Christmas shopping from 2 pm, grab some dinner (maybe a sneaky beverage 🍺) and set up the picnic blankets, chairs and beanbags amongst the lavender and enjoy the movie!! Gold coin entry!

Mark it in your diaries!!

If you’re a local artisan or food vendor, send us a message about attending too!!

Looking forward to it!
