🚨 Artist Announcement! 🚨

We’re thrilled to welcome Maddie Morris Music to Musicport Festival 2025! 🎶✨

Maddie Morris is an artist who strives to make a difference in the world. Bold, insightful
and refreshingly unique, they take traditional song in new directions to shine a light on
contemporary issues, offering new perspectives about the world we live in today.

Folk songs have always told stories, but how Maddie makes their mark is by turning this
storytelling into action. Described by Jim Moray as “leading the next generation of
socially conscious songwriters”, Maddie uses their work to highlight inequality, challenge viewpoints and provide an inclusive space for shared experiences. Maddie was recently commissioned by Unlimited to explore LGBTQIA+ experiences of disability through traditional music, and has also been proud to collaborate with organisations such as Q***r Folk, The Bit Collective and Trans Pride Brighton.

Whether they’re a turning centuries-old ballad on its head or writing something
completely new, Maddie places their focus on drawing out true meaning rather than being true to tradition. Maddie released their first studio EP Upstream in 2022 to huge critical acclaim. Two years on, they’re following this up with their debut studio album, Skin (released February 2024). Skin is a beautifully crafted collection of songs which
amplifies the stories of those often marginalised by society. Passionately political, yet gently understated, this is music that deftly treads the path
between art and activism.

With tickets selling fast, don’t miss your chance to experience Maddie’s incredible performance live. Get yours now before they’re gone! 🎟️🔥

We’re excited to welcome back the much-loved Himmerland to Musicport 2025 – our 25th Anniversary! 🎉

✨Himmerland is a group of five traveling musicians, each carrying very different life stories and traditions in their rucksacks, hailing from three regions of Denmark – Bornholm (an island in the Baltic Sea), Copenhagen, and Northern Jutland – and from Poland and Ghana, in West Africa.

Himmerland composes music that is infused with all the different traditions that run in their blood. Well-travelled on the international music scene – across Europe, Russia, Canada, South America, Australia and New Zealand – Himmerland represents a Denmark where people from around the world can meet, live together and all contribute to a sweetly simmering cultural melting pot.

🌍🎶 MUSICPORT 2025 – ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT 🎶🌍

We’re celebrating 25 years of Musicport with an unforgettable lineup, bringing the World to Whitby once again!

An Dannsa Dub!🥁🎻🔥

Music is one big conversation. And few bands live at the heart of it like An Dannsa Dub.

Born from a love of traditional Scottish folk, dub reggae and dance music, together they summon the joyous, communal energy of a cèilidh and a sound system session.

Their name comes from the Gaelic for “The Dub Dance”. Their sound celebrates the ancient Gaelic and West African rhythms that influenced reggae, which in turn, via sound system culture and dub’s pioneering remixes, produced modern dance music. Their live shows and recordings are a seamless, pulsating fusion of all this and more.

An Dannsa Dub have carried this unique, unstoppable sound to the UK festival circuit. They’ve thrilled a 10,000 strong crowd at Boomtown Fair and have headlined a sold out show at Celtic Connections, the UK's premier Celtic music festival.

2021’s self-titled EP "An Dannsa Dub" brought the group worldwide acclaim. The release has been played on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Nan Gàidheal and BBC Scotland. It’s been supported by Don Letts, who included it in his “Best Of 22”, as well as Tom Robinson, Mungo's Hi Fi, and OBF.

Join us for a weekend of incredible global sounds, community spirit, and festival magic.

🎶 In Case You Missed It! 🎶

We’ve announced FOUR incredible artists for Musicport 2025, and the lineup is already shaping up to be unforgettable! 🌟

The Zawose Queens: There's the vibrations of the ancestors, coming through on traditional instruments and voices that go deep, high and out there. There's the connection to nature, to ceremony and ritual, in their dance-inspired fusion, their blend of the organic, harmonic and modern- day electronic.

Olcay Bayir: Singer/songwriter from London, of Kurdish Alevi origin from Turkey. Olcay's soul is rooted in the Anatolian musical tradition. She went on to study operatic singing at a London University, but realised that classical music was not her path. Instead, she brought the power of a trained voice to the music of her homeland.

K.O.G : Combining exquisite writing skills with shamanistic live performance, fierce raps, perfectly on pitch singing across a massive vocal range and some absolutely wicked dance moves!

Tian Qiyi: Celebrated for their innovative fusion of traditional Chinese music with contemporary and experimental sounds. This rich blend of influences allows them to seamlessly integrate traditional Chinese instruments with modern genres like electric jazz, reggae, and electronic music!

🎉 Artist Announcement! 🎉

We’re thrilled to reveal that The Zawose Queens are joining the lineup for Musicport 2025! 🌟🎶

There is spirit and fire in the music of The Zawose Queens. There's the vibrations of the ancestors, coming through on traditional instruments — soaring chizeze fiddle, buzzing illimba thumb piano, ngoma drums that chatter and thunder — and voices that go deep, high and out there. There's the connection to nature, to ceremony and ritual, in their dance-inspired fusion, their blend of the organic, harmonic and modern-day electronic. There are lyrics that tell, in their native kigogo, of the passion for music, the wonders of life. Of pride in environment, in tradition. In their East African roots.

Pendo and Leah Zawose showcase the fluid polyrhythms and rapturous polyphonic singing of the Gogo (aka Wagogo) people of the arid, hilly Dodoma region of central Tanzania.
The most famous exponent of this musical tradition is the late, great Dr Hukwe Zawose (Pendo’s father and Leah’s grandfather).

Maisha, the debut album by The Zawose Queens, marks the first time that women from this famous musical family take their place as lead vocalists and performers. Emboldened by workshops in songwriting and music production with visiting UK-based producers Oli Barton-Wood (Jordan Rakei, Obongjayar, Nilufer Yanya) and Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, Onipa), The Zawose Queens began writing their first ever songs. The resulting collection of songs range from the stripped back and traditional-sounding to those treated with subtle electronic elements, with beats and drops and found sounds and switch-ups.

✨ Another HUGE announcement drops tomorrow at 5PM! Stay tuned - you won’t want to miss it!
