An excerpt from a poem by one of my favourite poets, the most wonderful Mark Tredinnick Poet. I was fortunate to meet Mark many moons ago and learnt a great deal from his workshops and poetry friendship. His wise words, ‘a poem is a leaf that tells a tree’ accompanies my writing mind always.

Her poetry and creative non-fiction has appeared in Meanjin, Cordite, The Found Poetry Review, Westerly, Australian Poetry Journal and Writer’s Digest (US). Natalie’s work has been widely anthologised in both the United States and Australia and she helped run the Voicebox poetry reading series in Fremantle.

The recently released If There Is a Butterfly That Drinks Tears (Gazebo/Life Before Man Books) is her second poetry collection and explores motherhood in the wake of the Trump Presidency.

Before leaving the US Natalie recorded her album You Wanted to Be the Shore But Instead You Were the Sea, which was produced by James Connolly (Van D**e Parks) and includes performances by Doug Pettibone (Lucinda Williams/John Mayer) and Dan Phillips (Peter Gabriel).

The album reached #1 on the AIR Australian Independent Albums Chart and was named in the Top Ten Australian albums for 2020 by Rhythms Magazine. She has played the Fairbridge Folk Festival in Western Australia and performed with John Butler, Victoria Williams, and Morphine. Since she has returned to Australia she has been writing new songs, including a tune with Donna Simpson of The Waifs during the pandemic.

We really had an amazing evening last night at Witchy Words & Music.
We began with wonderful performance poetry from our open mic poets, including Molly Hall’s beautiful reading of quintessential T.S.Elliot & courageous first timer, Katie.

Songstress Victoria Palermo wowed the crowded with her gorgeous voice, songwriting & musicianship.

Monty Cash performed ‘Embracing the Light’ accompanied by improvised music by Nina & Lindsay - we were transported by captivating story magic.

And just when it couldn’t get any better we moved into spiritual realms with joyous devotional music from Ram Bj & Monty. Hearts opened and spirits rose.

Thank you to everyone who listened and everyone who shared their gifts.
Joy joy joy 🙏💚

So there it is, 13.5 days of Open Studios and three events, plus countless hours of preparation in the gallery but especially for our magnificent artist in residence, Tania Davey. Her work has touched people on a profound level and no doubt will continue to connect beyond this time.

I am so damn proud of what we have achieved.

Thank you to every person who came to see the art, meet Tania, and take a precious piece home. Thank you to all of The Marritree artists who’s work has wandered off into the world.

Thank you to all our friends and family who helped out, we could not done it without your gifts of time and love.

To dearest Kavisha Mazzella; your music & presence is a gift with lasting good vibrations. See you again soon!

And to all the readers, the poets and the lover of wild words and music , we are your people! Thank you for your support, your warm voices and your open hearted listening.

See you soon in The Marritree 🌿🧡🎶💓
