Serruria florida, also known as Blushing Bride💗
The flower which inspired our name, one of my absolute favs. For it’s fluffy centres, it’s pastel colours and shimmery petals. To me, makes the cutest dainty flower ever!!

Endemic to South Africa, yet commonly used in native-flower bouquets here in Australia. It’s name “Blushing Bride” purportedly comes from the tradition of Cape Town grooms wearing the bloom in their lapels when they were about to be married, thus ‘blushing’ at the prospect of seeing their bride.

How better to make memories than participating in a hands-on candle making workshop, held in our Florist and Cafe, as the amazing team from CandleXchange guides you to create your own custom candles.

About the workshop:

Duration – 1hr
Participants: minimum 10
Cost: $100 per person

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to create your own eco-friendly candles using natural ingredients and reusable materials.⁠
Our facilitator will also share insights on sustainability and circular economy trends as well as the interesting history of candle use and the evolution of materials used. By learning to make your own soy wax candles and reusing glass containers, you can reduce your environmental impact while creating beautiful and fragrant candles for your home or to give as gifts.
Whether you're a seasoned crafter or simply looking to live more sustainably, this workshop is a great way to learn new skills and connect with your friends.⁠ In this session, you will make two candles, one of which is for you, the second will be donated to survivors of domestic violence to light up their new home.⁠ Once you finish using your candle at home, you can swap it for a new candle 30% cheaper. ⁠

Please note, the candle you make in the workshop require several hours to dry before we trim and clean, and therefore will need to be picked up following the workshop.

Kniphofia💥
Commonly known as red hot poker, torch lily, poker plant or tritoma.

Kniphofia (knee-FOE-fee-ah), is a genus of about 70 exotic plants native to South Africa. These dramatic, eye-catching plants can grow to be 60 to 150 centimetres high.

During this time of year, it’s highly likely you’ll spot them blooming around people’s front yards (I know I have!) They are hardy, easy to grow plants, and their long living blooms carry through as cut flowers, lasting from anywhere between 1-2 weeks or more. Kniphofia’s also add great height and vibrant colours to every space❤️‍🔥

Chamelaucium - commonly known as Waxflower

This Australian native is desired for its small, delicate flowers, sweet scent and its long vase life. Not only are they known to spread joy and happiness, simply based off of their looks alone, but in Australia, their extended vase life is said to represent a long and happy marriage💒 Their petals have a slight waxy feeling, hence the name “waxflower”!

Flowering Kale💟
Also known as ornamental Cabbage.

You may not find this kind of kale (and cabbage) in your produce department. Although flowering kales are relatives of vegetables like the cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower we eat today, these perennial and biennial herbs have been cultivated for their good looks, not so much for their taste.

You’ll commonly find the following types of kale in florists: ‘Chidori’ ornamental kale (curly leaf edges with purple, white or magenta leaves), ‘Color Up’ ornamental cabbage (green outer leaves with white or deep pink cores), ‘Osaka’ ornamental cabbage (smooth leaves with center of white, pink or red) and ‘Peacock’ compact hybrids (deeply serrated leaves in white, red or purple).
