Who attended the 90th celebration of the Wollongong City Brass Band yesterday (Friday)?
Two of our fabulous In Schools and Band Music teachers Louise Luke and Leanne Walton did, along with Annette Brown our new CEO.
Leanne is a conductor for the City of Wollongong Wind Band, and Louise was a band member for the celebration event.
Kate Hood (pictured in blue vest and black tie) was taught by Louise at south Coast music camp, and David Rooney at Keiraville Public School.
Her Grandfather Bill Short (pictured) is also part of the band which began in 1934.
The band now has 6 bands and has concert bands, beginner band, brass bands and a daytime band (for retirees).
It was such a fantastic concert, and wonderful for WollCon to connect with community.

“As an educator, we’ve got a really important role to make sure we help the schools, because the schools are struggling to provide music in the classroom.”
“We can also look at our wider community and adults that have retired that still want to make music and take that into nursing homes.”

Carols in MacCabe Park 🙌🙌Thursday 12th December.
Save to date ! With WollCon’s Trish Delaney-Brown and her band, children’s choir, lots of fun entertainment, face- painting and of course… a visit from Santa. 🎅

Get ready for things to sound a lot like Christmas! That’s right, one to mark in the diary - Wollongong City Council is holding Carols in MacCabe Park on Thursday 12 December.

It will be anything but a silent night with everyone invited to picnic in the park and sing some Christmas favourites accompanied by the talented Wollongong Conservatorium of Music. In addition to the carols, there will be roving entertainment, festive face painting, and live stage shows. And of course, no carols would be complete without a visit from Santa Claus. Word from the North Pole assures us that the man in red will be making an early visit to Wollongong to say hello.

Save the date – Thursday 12 December from 7-8.30pm – practice your choral voices, don your Santa hat and get ready for an evening of songs, family, friends and fun.

The Chroma Quartet are performing their final concerts in Wollongong for 2024, on the beautiful grounds of the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music on Sunday 24th November.

Their Children’s Concert begins at 11am-12pm – an informal performance aimed at young people and their families. An hour of exploring exciting string music performance by these amazing, inspiring musicians.

And their final concert from 4pm-5:30pm.
The repertoire for the concerts includes a world premiere by Alice Chance (‘Circus Sketches’) and Alice is hoping to be in attendance in the afternoon concert.

Other music to be performed:
Bartok – String Quartet No. 3,
Beethoven – String Quartet Op. 59 No. 1 ‘Razumovsky’.

This incredibly talented foursome are passionate about creating beautiful music - and we are thrilled they have been able to bring that joy of playing as a string quartet to WollCon as part of their residency ❤

An unmissable performance for lovers of classical music (young and old). 🎼 Head to: https://wollcon.com.au/whats-on-at-wollcon/ and find the concert you would like to attend.

"What a spectacular first week at WollCon. I’ve been meeting our amazing music staff to understand how I can improve our processes and procedures so they can focus on doing what they do best."
"I also managed to meet some exceptionally talented students during their lessons, one of our Jazz Combos which performed at the UOW Chancellor’s Graduation Cocktail Reception, and many of the ChiME students enjoying the beautiful grounds known as Gleniffer Brae in the Botanic Garden. Our next music leaders are in great hands here at WollCon."
"Join us at our End of Year Performance Day (15th December) which will include our annual Concerto competition. A day of glorious music of all disciplines and ages ... do come and say hello." - Annette Brown CEO.
