Barbara from and I had a lovely afternoon at the Ballarat Dance Awards today. Some stunning tutus (and other costumes) and beautiful dancers.
We only saw one tutu each that we have made!

Lovely to see how well some of my tutus hold up. I made this one in August 2014, and I just saw it for sale on a post today (on Tutus and other ballet costumes garage sale in case anyone is interested.)

Would you like to make a tutu? Do you own a sewing machine? Was the last/only thing you have made a bag in year 9 textiles (or do you know how to sew but find the idea of sewing stretch too daunting to sign up to one of our January classes)? If your answer to all these questions was yes, we have the class for you! Barbara from Attitude Tutus and Stagewear and I are offering a basic tutu sewing class 8th to 9th June (Kings Birthday long weekend) in Woodend Victoria. Monday is offered as a “free” day to finish off your tutu. This makes for a lovely unhurried and stress-free long weekend of sewing.

Over two relaxed days you will be guided through cutting out and making a basic leotard, gathering and sewing on five to six layers of net, and tacking the skirt to a classical shape. We will also take you through some basic decorating principles techniques suitable for ballet, and tips to advance your skills in the future.

Cost will be $750 with ALL materials provided to make a tutu with a small “ballet-suitable” bodice decoration fully blinged by Barbara and me. You can attend for just two days of instruction if time poor, but Monday is available as a free day to finish off your tutu under our supervision or just chat

Flashback! Now in its 7th year, the annual Ballarat Dance Awards competition showcases the talent of remarkable young dancers in Victoria and interstate. Fragile X is a cause close to the heart of the BDA Team and the Awards program spreads awareness in honour of Jimmy Jones 🧡
This gorgeous photo was taken in the early days of BDA by local Ballarat newspaper The Courier to celebrate the connection with Fragile X syndrome - featuring Jimmy Jones, his sisters Zara and Sadie, mother Sarah, and Anita Delaland from BDA.
