Photography is the only language that can be understood anywhere in the world. I really don’t have any idea about photography, but I take pictures. I don’t care so much anymore about ‘good photography; I am gathering evidence for history. I think good dreaming is what leads to good photographs. For me, photography has become a way of attempting to make sense of the strange world that I see around
me. I don’t ever expect to achieve that understanding, but the fact that I am trying comforts me. My photography is a reflection, which comes to life in action and leads to meditation. Spontaneity – the suspended moment – intervenes during action, in the viewfinder. I love the people I photograph. I mean, they’re my friends. I’ve never met most of them or I don’t know them at all, yet through my images I live with them. I don’t take a photograph, you make it. Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow. I never satisfied with what I’ve done. Never stopped photographing. It is very likely that your best photograph has not yet been captured. We often don’t or can’t see beauty in the world until someone shows it to us. Take a look around you just now – even without moving from the computer. Can you see something in a new way, a different way of presenting something common? Just take a look again… Everything is a subject. Every subject has a rhythm. To feel it is the raison d’etre. The photograph is a fixed moment of such a raison d’etre, which lives on in itself. A photo is a small voice, at best, but sometimes – just sometimes – one photograph or a group of them can lure our senses into awareness. Much depends upon the viewer; in some, photographs can summon enough emotion to be a catalyst to thought A photograph is not created by a photographer. What they do is just open a little window and capture it. The world then writes itself on the film. The act of the photographer is closer to reading than it is to writing. They are the readers of the world. Good dreaming is what leads to good photograph Photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting an ordinary place. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them. Many think that if they buy a better camera they’ll be able to take better photographs. A better camera won’t do a thing for you if you don’t have anything in your head or in your heart. It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter. When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, we'l be content with silence. A picture is a secret about a secret, the more it tells you the less you know. If a photographer cares about the people before the lens and is compassionate, much is given. It is the photographer, not the camera, that is the instrument. Emotion or feeling is really the only thing about pictures I find interesting. Beyond that is is just a trick. In photography there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality. There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer. The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don’t have to explain things in words. Most of my photos are grounded in people, I look for the unguarded moment, the essential soul peeking out, experience etched on a persons face.
